Journal Comics!
Added 2017-04-28 15:00:54 +0000 UTCOkay so it's been a LONG time since I've done minis, but here I am, back with some small comics. Though this time I'm not quite going for the jokes as much as I am doing journal comics, because I like reading other people's journal comics, and I've been doing some weird and interesting things lately that have given me a decent amount of material.
For instance, I've been teaching an after school class about evolution and animal diversity once a week! It took some getting used to, but now we're three weeks from the end of the course and we're having a real good time. Or at least *I* am having a good time, because I have a captive audience at which to rant about dinosaurs.
It has also been a good learning experience for me, someone who would like to be a decent science communicator when the need arises. Sometimes it's hard to remember what level of knowledge other folks are coming into the discussion with, so this has shown me what points with which to start these conversations, and what topics are more or less important or engaging to someone who doesn't plan on studying these things. Like I probably could have spent a little less time on the difference between synapsid and diapsid skulls and just skipped to the part with the cool Gorgonopsids.
I have also learned that even when I feel like I am shouting I am far too quiet for middle school ears to hear.

2017-04-28 22:58:59 +0000 UTCThe first few weeks were really stressful and difficult, and the kids were not feelin it, but now I've gotten a better handle on how to connect with them and it's going well! They seem to be enjoying themselves, especially when I show videos. I'm glad I volunteered to do it! As for a Sistertime, we recorded a video, so all that stands between you and a new ep is a whole lot of editing.... so we shall see! But there is one in the works, at least.
