The 'System' Series Anniversary
Added 2023-05-06 19:28:39 +0000 UTCFive years ago, Dragon Cobolt and I unleashed Bucking the System onto the world, enticing many into that wacky, sexy lifestyle of Pat and Night's. We followed it up with Masking the System, which expanded the story, cast, and scenarios further.
I felt it was a good opportunity to do a celebratory picture of the whole cast for the anniversary. This took a lot out of me, but I'm pleased with the results!
Truth be told, I'm disheartened that Masking the System isn't in print yet. I'm considering the possibility of doing a printed anthology release that'd include both books, with assorted illustrations and short stories, but I don't know if its financially feasible. In the meantime, at least there's this pic!

In the second book it's because of how many more variables there are in the swinging compared to the cucking in Book 1, so there are more points of uncertainty.

It was a huge challenge to write a contemporary romance - I'm usually more of an SF/F guy, so it was fun to stretch my muscles and try new things. I've always had an incredibly goofy idea for a third one that I pitched as "Clue but cucking instead of murder", lol

2023-05-06 21:45:39 +0000 UTCSince it was pretty late in the story, I thought "Okay, this is clearly the emotional climax, and it definitely did its job." I kinda found myself like Pat, sitting there processing what I had just read, but in a good way cause the very POV-centric narration of that scene pretty much made me feel like I was there in Pat's shoes, and that shit was intense, in a good way though. It made me go "Man I gotta see how this gets resolved."

2023-05-06 21:26:22 +0000 UTCIt's interesting how a lot of people read BTS and enjoyed it, though I often hear the gym scene and subsequent heart-to-heart talk was the 'this was almost too much' part for a lot of people. Kind of a rollercoaster of emotions in those chapters (becauase they're the emotional climax of the story). Not a lot of people read MTS afaik, and I don't know if it's because it's a longer story, or if BTS's very cuck-heavy themes were off-putting... ironically MTS is more of a swinger story and Pat is shagging Lily a lot in it, so you'd think it being a 'softer' story would entice more people. I'm glad you enjoyed the books, and this anniversary pic! If I did do an anthology, this would certainly be the cover (which is why I made a SFW version haha) :B

The BTS characters on the left, the MTS characters on the right, the main bulls of each story towards the top on their respective sides, both versions of Lily on either side of the composition, and of course, Patrick and Nightshade at the center of it all. If that collected Anthology ever comes to pass, this would be an amazing cover. I vividly remember reading BTS when it first came out and being completely and utterly hooked. Dirty Talk had only been a year old at the time so I was still relatively new to the kink and the dynamics at play in such a relationship, so it was really cool being essentially in the same shoes as Patrick in that first story, curious about how things would play out and intrigued by the tension during each encounter. Then I read the updated edition a year later and still loved it, even with the certainty that things would be okay in the end. It still felt every bit as exciting as the first time around. MTS upping the stakes and the number of involved parties really makes it a much more distinct experience than BTS rather than it just being "more of the same, plus some extra," and despite being twice as long, it feels justified. I'm trying to avoid being sappy as much as I can with this comment but man, this duology and all the associated works that came with it was an absolute blast. I enjoyed every moment I spent reading it and it's given me a deeper appreciation for two characters that were already among my favorites of yours. Happy anniversary, and here's to the future of your work!
