Had another thought:

It's pretty common to find good deals on prebuilt computers that have a lot of good parts in them, but a bad/cheap videocard, sold for "office" use. If I see a good enough one of those, it's pretty likely I'll pick it up.  The only real downsides to that approach is that it's fairly common for them to be really cheap on the power supply, so I'd have to spend $50 on a better one, and that I'd chuck my current videocard into it, so it honestly wouldn't have a huge, immediate effect on render times, outside of making physics stuff like cloth much quicker. (Though in Blender IF you have a good enough CPU, you can simultaneously render with the GPU and CPU to help speed things up.

Side, side note: I just found out that Blender has support for raytracing cards, so when I eventually upgrade to the RTX GPUs, Blender can make use of that tech and render in the Cycles engine quite a bit faster.
