very much agree that 'get out' gave the audience a lot of expectations that were not met and misguided them. *definitely would enjoy more of these

2019-04-04 14:54:42 +0000 UTCHow much do you know about Freddie though? If you know anything about his actual life you'll understand that that movie is not worthy of the credit it gets. :)

2019-03-30 09:14:35 +0000 UTCI would definitely love to hear more movie talks! Or even theater/musical talks from Eugene. I honestly hate horror movies, but I love listening to film critiques, so I listen to the entire bonus segment and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the discussion was insightful and engaging!

2019-03-30 00:43:28 +0000 UTCI also really really hesitate to take Peele's name out of horror since horror is such an inherently racist genre and this is a black filmmaker prioritizing black leads. To me, he's hitting most of the marks (albeit subtly) and the arguments against his films can be made for classics such Blair Witch Project and The Thing, which absolutely revolutionized the genre. I think we need his voice and for him to lead it a bit more. Especially since horror fans are such a niche community, we really should be flexible with the 'what is horror, what is not' debate and be aware of not being exclusionary when we have a strong, incredible voice such as him. Also, genres are fluid in general. We need to allow them to develop and change or filmmaking would stagnate in style.

2019-03-29 22:44:35 +0000 UTCYou guys should definitely keep doing this kind of podcast! Your enthusiasm is infectious, you manage to disagree without arguing, you seem to truly enjoy this conversation, and I enjoyed the clear direction of the episode. Time management is an issue though.

2019-03-29 22:04:38 +0000 UTC1) You guys have to do movie talks more often. You are talking about this in a sophisticated sense. 2)Omg I wrote a response on discord to this (it's way too long to post here but SPOILERS), but its definitely horror and light on gore. I think that race is still totally apart of the conversation and the tethered are about everyone's lack of privilege from prior generations. I also think it's about Trump and us not being able to ignore intersectional privilege conversations anymore as the underbelly of this country has truly been cut open. Btw, I think it's in the same universe as Get Out and there is an extended metaphor that links the two films together.
