2019-02-02 01:48:58 +0000 UTCWould it be possible to include alternative download links? I don't if it's my phone or what but I struggle to download the trypod directly from patreon. This happens with all the files. Does anyone else have this issue?

2019-01-16 03:23:01 +0000 UTCFirst of all, loving the Trypod! You should definitely keep doing it. Secondly, I so happy you're thinking of doing a larp video! It's my favorite hobby and it's brought so much joy and adventure into my life. I hoping that you don't necessarily play into the mainstream portrayal of larping, which is super dorky. It's not all dungeons and dragons and bulky swords wrapped in duct tape. It can be so much more and there are tons of different genres! But, knowing your work, I'm betting you'll do some solid research and make a great video like always 😊

2018-12-12 21:00:31 +0000 UTCCan we get a video of Zach with a Stylist for the Most-Fuckable Zach thing? I don't think he needs to be any more fuckable than he already is, I'd just like to see him rocking various looks. But he's already perfect. :) Also, so psyched for the LARPing video. And my mind is blown that Eugene seems to know about Mage. Weird. Now I'm going to have to write fanfic about Eugene's secret life as a tabletop gamer.

2018-12-09 12:20:34 +0000 UTCAs a fan fiction "old timer" (for almost 30 years - though I have friends with almost 50), I love and adore your explanation on the history of fan fiction.

2018-12-09 02:25:43 +0000 UTCFirst off, loving the Try Pod, it's a highlight of the week for me! Fun and relaxing and it always makes me laugh. Secondly (and no condemnation meant or negativity in tone), a little history lesson about shipping. Might be of interest, or maybe not. It's taken me years to learn so I can't expect someone who's never been curious about it to know any of this. Fanfiction (as we think of it today) started in early days of TV shows when straightness was de rigueur, but well-written female characters were often few and far between in an era of misogyny, while "brotherly bonds" were often elevated worshipfully. Some fans saw chemistry that wasn't allowed to be acknowledge, and refused to accept that it was forbidden for men to be attracted to each other. Having men on TV set up as each other's primary partner, spending most of their time together, regularly willing to sacrifice anything up to their lives for each other, and having only short term relationships with women (underdeveloped relationships at that), all the emotion and investment of the characters and viewers being about two male characters...it led a certain percentage of the population to see them as gay men. On shows where well-written, complex straight people have chemistry, writers are more likely to add a romance to tantalize and satisfy fans, rather than try to erase the chemistry people feel or downplay the possibility of romance the way they do with same sex characters (to this day). Of course, not all fan fiction is shipping, or gay, and sometimes shipping is as simple as finding two characters hot and wanting erotica. But in the beginning, it was often a private act of rebellion against the homophobia and gay erasure of the day, and one of the few points of access someone might have to LGBT content before the internet, youtube, and better laws. (Shipping has been around since at least the 60s, with active communities forming around various shows, fans mimeographing stories and theories and mailing them to each other.) For many of those "fandom old timers," it was a way of saying "love is love, and that's OK," and giving characters happy endings they'd never get in canon. To make it more complicated, a higher than statistically likely percentage of these mostly-female writers turned out to be LGBTQ. These often illegal and mocked stories held personal meaning to them, helping them work through their feelings and go against societal norms. And now it's a big-ass subculture that people find and join for a variety of reasons under one mostly-rainbow-colored umbrella: weird, complicated, sometimes great, sometimes not so great. I doubt it's going anywhere as long as shows are written the way they are today. Most shipping still revolves around TV shows, with a small contingent getting into other territory for a variety of reasons. None of this is to say that you have to like fan fiction, but it has some fascinating roots. Many of those early writers who are no longer with us would probably be sometimes delighted, sometimes appalled by various things about the community today if they could see it!

2018-12-08 02:22:03 +0000 UTCanyway, I have a half decent knowledge of LARPing from Dungeons and Dragons so I am going to assign the Try Guys the class, species, and alignment that I know them to be in my heart. Ned is pretty accurate, although it's bold to assume he can't be a knight AND a monster. Ergo, Ned is an Orc fighter. I'm also pretty sure he's neutral good. Keith is very obviously a wizard, but he has a weird quirk. Such as having a magic item that he doesn't know how to use, or making all of his spells various levels of summon monster and essentially turning himself into a magical Pokemon trainer. (Both of these are examples from my party). I'd say he's human or a tiefling if he wants to be spicy. He is either neutral good or true neutral. Eugene is a half-Elf rogue. He's a half-elf because elves are just better at things. He's also the player who always rolls a nat 20. A rogue is basically a combo of a fighter and thief with a bit of trickster on the side. He's chaotic neutral or chaotic evil, hands down. Zack is kind of an awkward wild card. So naturally, he's a bard. Bards are very flexible, they can fight and cast spells. Casting spells are strongly tied to the music a bard plays. Bards are also known for being absolutely ridiculous. I could cite various memes, but instead, I will tell a story from one of our sessions. Our bard, who is a sentient piece of luggage that has infinite storage space within, once jumped into an Olympic sized swimming pool which contained a giant water elemental that was the final boss for that dungeon. She almost died. Anyway, he's also a hobbit for what I consider to be obvious reasons. Zack is most likely chaotic good. He is also the unfortunate player who rolls nat ones during fights and therefore has to rely on Ned to protect him. Anyway, that's the Try Guys if they were D&D characters. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

2018-12-07 17:08:01 +0000 UTCLemme see if I can explain this to Eugene.. Who runs Hollywood? Straight dudes, for the most part. So most of the stories coming out from Hollywood are about straight dudes. Straight dude characters tend to be the richest, most developed in any piece of media because straight dudes are the ones writing, directing, acting in, and financing these productions. Because they tend to be the most developed characters, and because their relationships with each other are often so much more fleshed out than other relationships, they provide a much more fertile ground for people's imaginations. Hollywood has only itself to blame for all the shipping of straight characters together, because straight dudes are most of the characters they give us. But it doesn't have to be like that; Glee pretty clearly demonstrated that if you give people canon gays, they will POUNCE on that shit.

2018-12-07 02:20:39 +0000 UTCI kinda feel the same way. My favorite Try Guys videos are the videos that have an authenticity to them, and while all of them in some way do, others moreso, like 'Should the Try Guys get Plastic Surgery?' and their storytime videos ('My First Week As a Father', 'i'm getting worse', etc.). That's not to say I don't like the other videos- their educational videos are for me high up there as well, and the classic 'tries' will never get old. I just love listening to honest and real stories, especially from these four. It's even greater in a conversation because all their differences really shine through. Really, I just love these guys. Today's podcast was like a special gift, because it's my birthday!
