Kaen here! While TT and I have been hard at work with the games new features and functions the Levy and LustFire has been hard at work finishing up the last of Flare's artwork.
With the introduction artwork completed all that's left is the H-Scene artwork from Flare's secret XXXperiment scene that you all will now to figure out how to unlock through the new gameplay features we're introducing to the game.
This scene is unlocked through our Research Discovery game feature that we've talked about in the past that will be making it's way back into the Godot version of the game. TT and I will talk about it in more detail in a future production devlog once he's back from his irl duties!

Hey everyone! It’s TT back with some more MonXXX devlogs!
Today we’re going to be talking about research, stats, and how the progression works.
Research
Research is the #1 thing needed to run the facility. You need research both to fund the experiments by providing research to M.I.S. as well as to use your research to improve your experiment techniques. Today you just have to focus on your job: to get research points and run some experiments! Experiments come in all sorts of flavors, like physical, mental, behavioral, elemental and biological research. Some kin will excel at some experiment types, and fail at others, but both give research!
Even experiments with negative outcomes are a learning opportunity, though the kin may have different opinions. Failing an experiment, or getting a negative outcome can affect the Kin’s happiness, and unhappy kin are prone to outbursts, or can become aggressive!
Research points are awarded for completing experiments regardless of outcome. Research points can be invested into increasing affection, unlocking perks, discovering info on the kin, info that can lead you to new experiments, or point you to obscure behavior that could lead to uncovering the kin’s secrets!

Money Money Money
Research points are needed for both advancing as well as maintaining the facility. The facility has to be maintained in order to keep operating and the main way to do that is to sell research to M.I.S. who will continue to fund the research facility as long as you’re making headway with your research! Selling research points gets you funding for buying repair kits, supplies, items and makeovers for the kin’s rooms, and upgrades for the facilities, but as all things balance is needed, as research points also helps you unlock useful info about the kin!
Affection vs Happiness
I’ve talked about happiness and affection in the past few devlogs, and figured I’d chat about the differences since they aren’t the same! Happiness is what you imagine, kin are happy if you do things they like, and become unhappy when you do things they don’t. This is mainly affected by experiments, experiments most of the time are often frustrating or invasive to the kin, but all kin have preferences, so sometimes experiments are less negative than others, and some can even be positive if it’s an activity the kin particularly like. Many things will affect happiness for example repeating the same experiment over and over is fatiguing, and so the decrease in happiness may grow if you don’t change it up and try other things. Kin may come to loathe an experiment if you do it too much so even positive experiments can cause negative outcomes.
Unhappy kin will sometimes have outbursts during the workday leading to a facility emergency lock-down that as a researcher you’ll need to resolve! (I’ll go into more details on this later!)
Affection on the other hand is your bond with the kin, this can be improved by spending time with the kin and over time building your relationship. While you may do experiments and make them unhappy sometimes, their affection will never decrease. Increasing your affection will unlock new dialog and new scenes with the kin, as you become closer with them. This is essentially the primary way to progress a kin’s personal story.
Energy and Efficiency
Doing experiments is exhausting, and so kin who do many experiments run out of energy over time. As kin lose energy they also decrease in efficiency, a tired kin is less likely to produce as many research points as they’ll be less cooperative and potentially prone to a mental break. Kin need time away from doing experiments in order to recover, but it’s a balance, let them rest too often and you won’t get the research needed to keep the facility afloat with all it’s maintenance costs. Some kin recover faster than others, but they all need breaks. Happiness also affects recovery time, an neutral or unhappy kin will recover slowr than a happy kin. Managing kin’s time and energy to do research experiments as effectively as possible is a challenge but it’s your job to overcome it!

Next Few Months
Okay so that wraps up this update! However for now things are going to be quiet on my front, unfortunately I have some IRL stuff happening over the next month and a half so there won’t be any stuff done on the programming side and I won’t be posting again until May but rest assured I’ll be back in May as we continue work! I’ll post an update when I get back in mid May where we’re at. Currently we’re still working on getting a demo of the new game loop, which we’re currently hoping to aim for July some time, though things could change.
On the art and writing side we’re going to be testing stuff internally so I don’t think there will be any posts about it, but rest assured I know the things we’re working on will be exciting to many so stay tuned in for that! I’ll make sure to post something about what they came up with once I’m back.

Hey everyone it’s TT again! Back with some new stuff to show!
Disclaimer
Full transparency we all have day jobs so really it’s only had like 2-3 days of work!
Everything we’re showing off is super early and nothing is set in stone yet!
We’re still fleshing out ideas, , so some things may change a bunch before release, so keep that in mind!
Time Management
First I’ll chat about one of the big changes, time management. Previously you would select a kin and choose to chat with them to pick activities. Now there’s more of a focus on doing different kinds of research, as well as maintaining the facility and then the general well being of the kin.
Every day there are 3 time segments, morning/afternoon/evening, and you can assign the kin to do work, or chores during those times. If you don’t assign a kin to do anything than you give them free-time.

I’ll go into more detail on the various types of work, and chores at some point, but for now the idea is that:
“Work” is what gets you research points, and funding.
“Chores” is needed to upkeep the facilities.
“Free-Time” is needed to maintain kin energy and happiness.
You’ll need to balance these in order to maximize the speed at which you gain Research Points!
Once you’ve assigned the kin to do jobs, you can start the day
The Lab
Another change is how you interact with kin! The lab has been buffed into a fully fledged research campus! Once the day starts you’ll be able to walk around the lab, and see all the kin at their daily assignments.
You can talk to them, and you can get a gauge on how they are doing and if they like/hate the assignment.

You can also get the opportunity to interrupt them for that time slot and hang out with them instead. Spending time with them is how you advance the individual character stories, gain affection, reputation, and most importantly get spicy with the kin!

That’s it for now, we think these changes will be fun additions, they give a lot of new opportunities for character scenes and events, and have there more to do with the kin.
There’s a lot more to all the changes, next week I’ll talk more about Research Points, and more detailed changes to progression with funding and such.

Hey Everyone! Kaen here again.
The game that started it all Melting Point was the studios first project 5 years ago during the pandemic. Sadly with the vision I had for the game at the time while also being young and inexperienced we just didn't have neither the funding or the budget to sustain development.
TechTsundere and I have plans to return to this project and give it the proper life that it deserves after we finish development on Monster XXXperiment, but for now I will leave you all with a blast from the past.
Honestly it is short but I'm surprised how good of quality we were able to achieve from SilkyMilk's voice acting, LustFire's animations, and some of the original programming done by a dear old friend of mines. But it still definitely shows its age and the inexperience I had at the time. Hopefully you all enjoy!

As I'm sure all of you have noticed I like to welcome a very special member to the team TechTsundere! To be honest last year's Beta release of Monster XXXperiment disappointed me greatly, it was a buggy mess that wasn't worth the money and I was ashamed to even humor releasing that to this community.
Over the last few months since then I met TechTsundere who has an amazing resume working in the industry for over 10 years as of today. We became close friends with similar goals in mind. They have always been a very great at making fun game mechanics but didn't have the art and writing to go with it. While over here you all constantly praise the art of writing of MonXXX but our game mechanics leave little to be desired.
After we worked together on Naughty Haunting last year we decided we can expand our partnership together to make it to Steam together! They were also a big part in my decision to move to godot because of what all it can offer and you all deserve only the best!
But for the time being I will be leaving you all of the greater public with Monster XXXperiment Classic, the zip file contains every version of Monster XXXperiment from the beginning up to the last alpha completely free.
I hope you all will continue to support us in our future endeavors to come!

Nice to meet everyone! I’m TechTsundere! TT for short. I’m a new programmer who joined the Monster XXXperiment Team! I’ve been doing game dev for over 10 years using various engines and frameworks(Unity, GameMaker, Scratch lol) and I’ve been using Godot full time for my projects for about 3 years now.
I’m excited to be finally be able to do some posting of my own! We definitely have some big changes in the works for Monster XXXperiment, and I’ve asked @AstroKaen if I can do some devlogs to help talk about some of the changes coming to the game!
As They’ve mentioned in other devlogs, while RenPy is great with visual novels, it doesn’t come with much in terms of tools for supporting other kinds of game features. With the move to Godot we want to focus on increasing the level of player interaction, there will be a lot more doing in this version along with all the ‘doing’ ;D
For the next month I’ll be much more active, posting weekly-ish, as I put together a quick greybox of the kind of gameplay we’re going for. While it won’t be as polished or complete feeling as the current version, we hope that it will show where we’re thinking about going with the game, and we can get feedback and ideas as we go through this transformation as a community!
After March I’ll personally be silent for a bit as I’ll be taking the next month and a half with some IRL stuff including a game jam, but don’t worry I’ll be back in June when that’s all over with more updates!
For now I just wanted to say hi give my quick intro and greet all the researchers!

Quick recording, we've finished transferring our assets over to Godot. And got our animations and layered character portraits set back up! We're feeling very confident working in the new engine, and a lot of the stuff that would have took us months to develop in renpy we've been able to do in just a few hours with the tools available to us!

Hello Researchers!
I wanted to open up a discussion about Monster XXXperiment and it’s something I feel as though everyone who loves and supports the game should have an opinion on. Our biggest criticisms about MonXXX during the alpha period of the game was the fact that the writing was great, the artwork was good, but the gameplay was lacking. Which for my vision for the game I do agree with. It's supposed to be a management game with visual novel story progression among the different characters. During the alpha the game felt like a visual novel, with a tacked on bare bones “resource management” on top of it. We spent a long time developing the beta and while there were some good ideas. When the tech demo did release earlier this year the same criticism was received, the features we added were features but they didn’t really meld together with the game it was incorporated into the progression and the idea that I had with the project.
So for the last few months, I’ve been trying to address these issues and I’ve come to realize a lot of the issues that we’re experiencing with development comes from the fact that Renpy is just too restrictive. Renpy obviously is a visual novel engine, and we’ve been trying to turn it into something that it’s not. So I’ve been somewhat playing around with the idea in my head of transferring the game over to Godot, another game engine. A lot of what has been worked on and framework can be carried over straight from Renpy and we’ll be able to expand the game and gameplay into the vision I originally had for the game. Taking inspiration from something like Lobotomy Corporation but with visual novel progression with character stories instead of the rouge-lite gameplay it has.
However this is where all of you come in and why I wanted to have an open discussion about it. Obviously for the last 3 years (MonXXX 3rd year birthday is this December) you all have had this version of the game. You guys support, love, and purchased this version of Monster XXXperiment. So at this point the vision I have for the game, while very similar, will be a change and adjustment if this is the version of MonXXX you want as a completed game. So I’m asking all of you, which path should development take?
TL:DR: My vision for MonXXX is while the same does alter from what everyone has been playing the last 3 years. Wants to move development to Godot to realize the vision for the management aspects of MonXXX, since Renpy has been restrictive and a pain to work in. What does the community want to see MonXXX as?

Here's some more progress footage from earlier in the month showing the earlier prototype maze we were using and Maria collecting spirit flames.
The first GIF just shows off having her starter animations in game now.

Hello Researchers!
While the release of the beta is ever looming I would like to tell you all about our plans moving forward with the future development of Monster XXXperiment. With us taking the break over October to work on Naughty Haunting our drive has returned stronger than ever to release new content for the game so many of you love!
Character Profiles
Starting in November I will be posting a public character profile of one of Monster XXXperiment's characters once a month. This profile will contain general information about that character. While you all already know about the characters that were in the game during the Alpha, you have no clue about any of the characters that come after! This will be done to help hopefully start discussing about the characters and who knows maybe even let someone know about a character early that might peak their interest~ Hopefully this will help tide people over during the slower months when I don't have too much I can show-off during development.
Character Polls
Along with Character Profiles it's time for us to finally bring back the character polls! While working on Naughty Haunting we realized a lot of stagnation on Monster XXXperiment development mainly came from the fact that we were just working on the same characters we've been working on for 3 years now (wow that long!). So I've decided the best way to keep creative juices going for us here at the studio is for us to start thinking about what Monster XXXperiment will look like as a whole. The most important being the Kin themselves! So starting at the start of next month we will be having a two tiered poll once a month to decide who the remaining Kin should be that will be added to the game.
Two tiered poll what does that mean? So pretty much we will be having a ranked choice poll on Patreon Discord and Subscribstar. The 4 Kin who receives the most votes will then be moved onto the next poll later that month, where Nebula+ patrons gets to vote on who out of the remaining 4 will be added to Monster XXXperiment!
So everyone feel free to start getting those recommendations ready and trying to convince people why your idea is superior!

When we first started working on Naughty Haunting we originally planned to have more humanoid enemies but development time didn't allow for it so we settled on more monstrous spirits for the erotic content.
Above are a few images and a short gif of early playtests while figuring out the concept.
1st Image - Maria (Ghost Girl) In spine, she's greyscale because all of the characters colors are applied within engine.
2nd Image - Concept art of different enemies, a few we may be willing to update the game to include in the future if reception is well.
3rd Gif - Early prototyping of the maze
4th Image - Concept art of the more humanoid enemies that sadly had to be scratched due to 1 month development time.

Good news everyone!
I hope everyone has been having a fantastic October. I want to once again thank you all for the love and support from my previous update last month. We took the community's advice and took a bit of a break to get our heads back in the game. However us taking breaks over here at AstroKaen doesn’t mean we were just sitting around playing video games all day. We decided to embrace the season and create and fully release a new game that will be available before months end!
“Naughty Haunting”
Story:

Kaen here, I would like to begin first and foremost by saying I’m really sorry for the radio silence and lack of updates the past month. I understand so many of you have been excited for the next update of Monster XXXperiment and for far too long now every time I begin to hype up what’s coming next I end up disappointing you all with delays, pushbacks, and now even silence.
The reason for the lack of updates was that I was ashamed, I didn’t know how I could bring myself to tell you all that there was yet another wrench in our plans for the game’s next update. Especially after just making the bold claim that you all will finally be able to play what we’ve worked on. That was a month ago now and there’s no excuse for me keeping you all in the dark wondering.
Especially because of the overwhelming amount of support, emotionally and monetarily you all have given for this project. You all want to see the game completed just as much as all of us at the studio do. But I can fully imagine what was running through some of your heads from the silence, I’m sure many of us have been burnt before by unkept promises.
As the captain of this ship there’s zero excuse for me to not be transparent with you all and I take full responsibility for not handling this situation in the way that I should have. I hope that you all can find it in your hearts to forgive me. I promise that I will continue to improve as the head of AstroKaen and that I will never let this happen again.

I am sorry about the slight delays from our initially posted projection for when the 2nd round of the Tech Demo was supposed to be released.
We have been running into issues fixing some of the bugs you all reported from the previous play test, as well as still not being able to build a stable android port of Monster XXXperiment which currently have us baffled.
I will attempt to release a version with at least Male Flare Active so you all can play the game in it's current state with him as well. But we will require some time to handle some of the other bugs we're currently experiencing.

Hello Researchers!
Thank you all to everyone who participated in the first round of the Tech Demonstration. You all managed to find a lot of issues that we have begun work on addressing and some of these changes will be present in the next round of the Tech Demonstration that should be coming out in a few days.
For everyone who has been asking or reporting bugs to me involving him:
Male Flare will be fully active and available in the coming update.
I put it at the bottom of the changelog that he was currently active but buggy because he wasn't fully implemented but I see now that a lot of people missed that. My apologies and in the future I will make sure it's better documented because I now know how many Male Flare fans there are when he wasn't active last update!
Along with Male Flare, a few other features that wasn't active in the first Tech Demonstration will now be active for testing and feedback I will go into details on which features those are in the next changelog. We have also heard the feedback on progression and are actively trying to nail that down now.
In other news thank you all so much for the overwhelming support! Our Patreon grew so fast just from the first Tech Demonstration release. It was just the motivation and boost we all needed here at the studio (mentally and finically) to get us up on our feet moving again. I can't express how thankful I am for all of you for supporting and playing our games and we will continue to improve upon them and create them to give you all the content you deserve!

One last push back found a bug that stops gameplay progression. Working on fixing it now tech demo will be released tomorrow.
It's a bug with the new activity system, when you do an activity that takes 2 or more hours right before 1PM or 1 AM it skips 1 o clock and the hour clock keeps ticking upwards and the player is soft locked unable to end the day to continue progression.
Should be fixed by the morning and tech demo will be released tomorrow thank you all so much for your patience.

Hello Researchers,
Sorry for my delays and lack of updates. I can now finally give you all confirmed dates for the upcoming tech demos and a road map. There will be 2 or maybe 3 tech demos released before the official Beta release to all patrons and those who have purchased the game on Itch.io.
I will warn you in advance it is possible for these tech demos to break, I am expecting a few bugs to pop up here and there. The tech demos aren't fully polished remember this is a beta not the full release of the game. There will be missing content the writers are still working to finish up Flare's content now that they are in a better position again.
I am incredible sorry for the delays and the false promises. When a a major issue arises it sometimes takes us a bit before it can be fully solved.
We're hoping that after the Beta releases we should finally be able to catch our stride again and future updates will not take nearly as long going forward.
1st Tech Demo Release Date - June 14th, 2024
After the results of the first tech demo we will fix and improve on any problems that may arise or take your criticism about what we could do better. We will then evaluate and make changes by the time of the 2nd tech demo release.
2nd Tech Demo Release Date - June 28th, 2024
After the results of the second tech demo we will continue to fix or improve on anything that may have been found during the testing time. After this depending on how big the problems were that had to be fixed we will either release the beta to the public or have 1 last tech demo before mass release.

Hello Researchers!
I'm happy to announce that the content for the beta is almost complete. As long as nothing catastrophic happens the first Tech Demo should be released to our Nebula and Supernova patrons within the next 2 weeks.
If no major bugs or issues are found then we will be doing our big beta release after the tech demos!
We're finally at the finish line everyone thank you so much for supporting us here at AstroKaen. I hope you all enjoy the efforts of our hard work!

I'm sorry patrons for lack of updates for the entirety of March. The studio was going through an extremely rough time mentally and financially. But we're still going strong and committed to continue development on Monster XXXperiment to completion no matter what.
While the writing has been having massive delays the artist have actually been going strong and is far ahead in their progress for our plans for this year.
So I bring you the first of the new characters that will be released once we're finished adding the already existing characters back to the game Soots the Rabbit!

Hello Researchers!
I'm incredibly sorry for the long delay between update post. Us here at the studio have been going through some tough times and it has heavily affected development. But that doesn't mean we have stopped working we are committed to releasing this update to all of you!
While everything we had planned for the first beta update may not be able to make it in at it's most polished state, there's still plenty of new features, writing, and scenes for you all to be able to experience.
So as of today I will say the update is 95% complete and should be releasing within the next few weeks.
Thank you all so much for your patience and support and this time I won't be taking so long before the next update post.

Hello Researchers!
Even though the writing for the beta is still in the works our studio artist are still at work! Here I bring you Karla's new standing sprite for the game. With that both the artwork for Karla and Sevros should be nearing completion meaning once the beta does eventually release the 1st update after shouldn't take as long as this initial release.
Speaking about the beta as you all know the reason it has been taking so long is because of all of the new content that was added for Flare. They were first written about over 2 years ago and the writer has improved a lot since then. They were also missing a lot of content and depth the later characters we released had.
Recently we onboarded a new writer who is still getting used to their new role but hopefully once they're fully adjusted this shouldn't be as big of an issue anymore.
As of this update Male Flare's content is 90% done and Female Flare's content is 40% done. Progress is being made daily and we should be looking at a release no further than 2~ months out at the latest.
