TryPod: Episode 3: Thanksgiving

We're back baby! Happy Thanksgiving! It's episode three of the TryPod Patreon Series as we keep refining and tweaking it to eventual public release. In this episode we talk thanksgiving plans, the popular girls from Zach's high school, and Keith's annual traditions.

Let us know what you think! Your feedback and encouragement is much appreciated.

We're starting The TryPod as a way to share stories from our increasingly bizarre lives, let you in on behind-the-scenes fun, and ultimately find more ways to connect with you and let you into our world.

as a musician studying copyright I feel personally attacked by Keith talking about copyright/music law in now 2 podcasts

C.S

Same. 😣

Manda Montane

I can't listen to this on the app and it doesn't have tag for trypod

Katelyn Pedoto

Try guys make ravioli. Try guys make valentine's candy (presentation counts!) I'd like to see a consistent food critic or chef who can develop a rapport with you and your cooking style across episodes. You have great chemistry with Hannah Hart ;)

Moxie

We need a volume control. LOL

Laura Bloom

my parents have changed their thanksgiving traditions and they do a steak bbq, corn on the cob, shrimp, tuna shashimi and crabs. it's the awesomest time and a good distraction from turkey's and ham.

Nel

Miles is so wrong about almond butter omg. Thank you TG for helping.

Hayley Gregory

Like the advice ending a lot

Loved the pod. English is not my first language so when y‘all start talking over each other I have a hard time keeping up. But except for that I loved the fact that you had a theme going on this time. I‘m with Eugene on the whole Highschool reunion thing. I have ONE person I am still in touch with and really don’t care about the others. Also, my parents divorced and my mom doesn’t live in my hometown anymore and my dad‘s new wife doesn’t particularly like visitors so I would have to stay at a hotel, which is super fucking expensive where I’m from. And all that to meet people I don’t really care about in the first place? Thanks but no thanks 🤘🏻

Marie Franka Zielinski

I vote for Miles giving advice!

Can I just say that my family is like Eugene's? Being Mexican in the US, I had both Mexican and American food for Thanksgiving, the good old turkey, mac n' cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy and some rolls along side 3 different type of tamales, beans with chorizo, carne asada, tequila (lots of alcohol), and some nice Mexican hot chocolate after. <3

I feel like the thing about a cold open is that you either *always* have to have a cold open or never have a cold open; otherwise it's confusing. But if it's consistent, you quickly learn to expect them. I think short cold open (<1 min)-> very brief intro/jingle (<10 sec) -> rest of podcast is one of my favorite setups for podcasts. Then the cold open is somewhere that's a good place to put something that either (a) is a great soundbite that sums up the tone or content of the rest of the episode, or (b) something that's a great soundbite but is so completely unrelated to the rest of the episode that you can't otherwise use it. And it means that each episode you get something new right from the first second, which is fun.

I normally hate podcasts and I love your guys' podcasts. Would subscribe.

Hayley Gregory

Love this!!

Laura Theriot

The Try guys sing so well together. Miles' jingle is fantastic.

Blair Elliott

Watched you host the macy's show and you were amazing, Keith! (Zuri was also pretty great)

Cybebe

So many topics with so many highs and lows I love it

Cybebe

I appreciated Eugene moderating. He was able to bring the conversation back to topic without being too disruptive about it. It made the flow a little better.

Kathryn Tigerstrom

This was beautiful. The high school reunion part was gold.

Cato Oomen

These are great! <3 Re: why people don't eat geese, my family has cooked geese a few times, but we usually don't do it because goose is expensive and fatty (though my mom still remembers my aunt's roasted goose, which is stuffed with 40 heads of garlic).

Karo Siu

I also really dislike Christmas.

Kristen Washington

Same here in Australia

Agree that the cold open was a little jarring, but not the worst thing I've ever heard in a podcast. I like having all four try guys because duh it's not the try guys without all four, but I am curious to see how the podcasts might be different if two of the guys did one instead of all four? I think that could help expose deeper themes and more sustained conversations that would reveal more information if just Eugene and Zach talked about something, or Keith and Ned, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love hearing all four, but I'm still horrifically curious about experiencing the different dynamics. Zach and Eugene talking about fashion? I'd listen to that. Ned and Zach talking about about marriage? I'd listen to that. LOVE this to though. Please make more!

Madison Manly-Niebel

I like the podcast because we hear more from Zach. I feel like we don't see him very much on the channel anymore. The cross talk is fine since I'm so used to their voices I can differentiate but the cold open was definitely confusing.

Brittany-Marie

I did find the ‘cold open’ a little confusing and actually restarted the podcast because I thought I missed something. I think it’s harder to have a cold open on a podcast because you can’t see any visual that indicates that it is, like video. I do like having the freewheeling, open conversation - it feels very natural. But I do feel like having a little bit more moderation/facilitation may help, as this episode felt a little bit too messy and natural. I like the idea of ending each episode with either advice to Miles or Miles giving advice. Perhaps cycle between them.

Zoe Kay

That was so much fun. The crosstalk was less disruptive this time, but still be mindful not to straight up cut each other off. I feel like Eugene's TG story got cut off a bunch but he brought us back. Maybe that's why it was better, last time I think when y'all cut each other off you just let it drop. I felt like I got everything that was said for the most part. Having a theme was good. Free wheeling conversation works too. I was so confused by the beginning but there was a nice payoff when you all finally did the intro. It was fun getting to know your family and social dynamics outside of being Try Guys so thanks for sharing. I think the Miles sign off worked well the way it went. One TG and him giving a response that y''all either immediately reject like this time or champion. lol

CRS

Even with a theme laid out, this was probably the podcast that had the most overlapped conversations 😂 Like soome have said, it may be good to start with a theme, or it just may be good yo really start talking, like what Ned said near the end of the last podcast, since you guys talk a lot to each other already. I really like the free flowing conversation, because in some ways each topic does connect and makes everything kore natural. I love you guys all the same, so as long as you guys enhoy yourselves I believe we will too! Also, the Massie, Sasha, and Jenny part killed me 😂

Riane Sontillano

CASA BONITA IS A FUCKIN TRIPPPP

RJ Boyle

I think all of you should give Miles advice. I enjoy how free flowing it is too, but I am curious as to when you guys recorded this. I still believe there should be a bit more questions from the audience, like fans ask questions before the next trypod and you guys answer them. I don't know, I always enjoy listening to you guys and you shouldn't change what you're doing.

Steampunk Girly

I don't mind the cold open... I enjoyed coming in on that conversation, however I think you could be confusing for people who are just starting the podcast. A short intro song or something in front of that would be helpful. In general I find that you guys are well suited for a podcast with 4 people. Usually I have a harder time when there's more than two people in a podcast. Traditionally, most of the podcast that I listen to are science-based though and multiple people explaining one concept would be confusing. That risotto thing was legitimately hilarious.

Molly Huang

Don't do a lot of 'stuff' to the Trypods! The randomness and free-for-all convo is what makes them interesting. Starting out with a theme is fine, it gives you guys a bit of direction, so you won't be all over the place; rotating the moderator is fine as a way to keep the flow. I also don't mind when you guys talk over each other; that's real conversation!

Barbara B

That was great! I just listened to it once and i'm listening again because it gave some good laughs. I second the cold open was confusing. Keith gave us an intro jingle at 1:30 and it was then that I realized I was feeling some anxiety about the beginning.

Jacquelyn Yun

Another fun one! I know you said comments are helpful, so I am hoping this is another piece of constructive criticism for you- want to preface this by saying once again, I love the TryPods and I definitely can't wait to hear more! The mid-convo cold open was a cool idea, but I thought maybe it went on a little too long. I definitely was confused and thought there was an error in the upload. I also thought there was a lot more talking-over-each-other happening here, more than the last 2 episodes. It's easier to deal with when there's video, bc you can see who is talking, but in a podcast it just sounds like chaos. This is probably my only continuous pet peeve on this otherwise awesome podcast! Lastly, just an idea/suggestion: A cool thing they do at the end of every episode of "Armchair Expert" (Dax Shepard's podcast), he has his producer Monica chime in and do a fact check. She listens to every episode after the guest leaves and doublechecks all the claims and stuff Dax and the guest talked about. A few days later, Dax and Monica discuss the findings, and it's added on as an epilogue to the episode and then published. That could be a fun thing to do with Miles! For example, re: this episode, following up on who had the copyright to HBD, and how Passover is celebrated, etc. etc. Just a thought. Happy Thanksgiving!

Jenny Mendoza

I just watched David Chang and he said the same thing as Eugene about Korean American Thanksgifting

Dyson v Roku

My 5 year high school reunion is coming up, but I’m not going to it cause i don’t care about anyone. The ones I do care about I talk with almost everyday and see frequently. Also mine cost $50 and I don’t want to spend that just seeing ppl get drunk THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PA

Brianna Keogan

Mine did. That’s how they lead in to it.

Kim Newton

It was definitely helpful to have Eugene keeping the conversation moving forward on this one :) So fun to hear everyone's thanksgiving traditions!

Julia Triezenberg

Eugene, we went to Casa Bonita last December and sat at the "Cartman Table." I freaked the hell out.

Catie Powell

Zachary Andrew Kornfeld: still ZAK!!

Pamela Warren

Does anyone else think Miles Bonsignore sounds like a slightly pitched-up Keith? Seriously, the way they pronounce words, their cadence, even their tones are almost identical. It's actually kind of weird how alike they sound given how not-alike they look.

Steven Z Carroll

Awesome idea to carry on the bread/ pie/ etc videos! Can't wait :D

Chaitra

My friend Amanda was at the parade as an assistant to Darren Tippens who was booked to take pictures.

Stef Strosky

Love the podcast. I’

Debbie Webb

Does everyone else start mid conversation?

Swayze

Another asian here - we did hot pot too and on really special Thanksgivings/Christmases, lobster and crab, haha. This episode was a lot messier, audio-wise than the last two. I don't have a big problem with people talking over each other but it was a little out of hand this time. I think Ep2 was the best balance of that so far. I do like the idea of a cold open a lot, but I would recommend keeping it down to maybe 30-45 seconds. It went on a teeensy bit too long and I think a non-fan listening in might end up tuning out(most people have short attention spans lol).

rockthekazb0t

please never stop making these, I NEED these for my morning commute

Bianka Bercier

almond butter is amazing but cannot replace peanut butter miles bonsignoreeeeeeeeeeeee

Christine Adriana -- Nurse Joy

keep these trypods comin'! i love listening to you guys just chat about everything and nothing.

Trace McG

I love these!!

Rachel N

My thanksgiving consists of hot pot. No turkey, just hot pot.

Joyce Li

I've always said risotto with a short "o" too, and I'm from Tennesee. Meanwhile, you guys had another fantastic podcast! Excellent unexpected cold open, I actually like those.

Melissa Greene

With the whole Risotto debate, in the UK, we pronounce it the same way as Ned does.

Isobelle Robson

I read "Keiths ANAL traditions" and was shook.... butt excited.

Casie Chaplin

Y'all are keeping me company as I cook, the family is coming over later. ;) My ranking: 1. Thanksgiving 2. Halloween 3. Christmas (yeah, also a child of divorce). Happy Thanksgiving, Guys!
