back when i had to suffer a week of baby think it over (despite my protests of having nothing to think over - i knew even then i'm definitely not mommy material), there was a plastic key you had to stick into the baby's back and turn to stop its crying. if you didn't turn the key within 3 minutes after the crying started, that would register as "abuse" (an automatic fail) - and the teacher strapped the key to our wrists with one of those "over 21" papery bracelets so we couldn't hand the responsibility off to someone else. (in theory, anyway.) i had (and still have) so many feelings about this project being stupid and completely unrealistic - real babies often cry more than 3 minutes no matter what you do and it's not necessaily abuse, people with actual babies CAN have help, etc. - as well as entirely unnecessary to convince me i didn't want to be a parent. so, one morning the fake baby started crying while i was driving to school. although i would never do it with an actual baby, to avoid failing the stupid project i pulled him from his car seat with my right hand and put him face down across my lap. (somehow none of this registered as abuse.) the key was strapped to my left hand, so i had to hold the steering wheel with my knee while i used my right hand to insert and turn it in his back. (super safe.) then it was my turn to enter the parking lot, so i turned in right-handed while my left hand stayed connected to the fake baby. once i'd found a spot and parked, i pulled out the plastic key and tried to put the fake baby back in his car seat - only to find his head was now stuck in my steering wheel. (which also didn't register as abuse?) then it took me several minutes to gently extract his head from that part of the steering wheel, so that THAT wouldn't register as abuse. it was all so, so stupid. and pointless.
