My thoughts on Xander's announcement: It is a little daunting that the team isn't overly excited about Xander's & Anya's engagement but you have to remember that Xander is only about 21 years old at this point. And though he has matured quite a bit in the last year or so, he's not what one might consider the most mature of the group. Perhaps everyone just worries he's too young for such a commitment. Also it's making them all look at where they are in their own lives and relationships (or lack thereof) and maybe they're feeling a bit jealous and inadequate. This may particularily be the case for Giles and Buffy. And of course Dawn is jealous. I think this is also part of the reason why she sneaks off to meet up with boys and is so open to hooking up with Justin, even after she finds out he is a vamp. She just wants to feel desireable and special to someone even if it's the wrong someone. Plus I'm not so sure everyone is so crazy about Anya (though personally I love her)- she is an ex-vengance demon and is strangely literal and blunt, which can be off-putting. As for Willow, even though she is very much in love with Tara I think she is still quite protective of Xander and probably thinks most women aren't good enough for him.
