Holland Manners is one of my favorite WolfRam & Hart people. Lilah will always be my favorite WRH Person.

Small note about something I just noticed on this rewatch. I think that Lee, the guy they DID kill, got killed and not Lindsay because Lee is fundamentally a small-time weasel, while Lindsay is a man with promise, someone of substance — at least as the firm and Holland Manners understands these things. Lee’s disloyalty was just petty greed. Lindsay’s was “a crisis of faith,” which is a bigger deal for a firm that is clearly into much bigger things than merely making money. As I said, that’s how Holland sees it of course. They’re also evil, which means we have to evaluate everything they do with that in mind. There’s always something new to notice in the Buffy/Angel universe.

"I was kinda thinking... about Faith. Story of my life." Same TBH! Speaking of which, this episode is especially interesting because of how soon it comes after Faith's redemption arc, in which Angel successfully went out on limb to save someone who had turned to the proverbial "dark side". No doubt, Lindsey made his own choice just like Faith did, but I can't help but feel like Angel dropped the ball a bit in the way he handled him. Angel may say "we're not in the business of giving up on people", but he sure was quick to give up on Lindsey. This isn't a criticism of the writing; Angel is a compelling protagonist precisely because of his flaws, IMO. It's just very interesting how differently he approached these two similar situations. There's something about Holland Manners that makes me sit up and pay attention every time he speaks. I don't know how much of it is because of the script and how much of it is because of Sam Anderson's performance, but he's got such a magnetic, subtly menacing presence. He's a great addition to our rogues gallery of villainous lawyers; while I do like Lindsey, Lilah, and Lee (RIP), none of them feel seriously threatening the way he does. His conversations with Lindsey are a highlight of the episode, and they always come to mind whenever I think about great "come to the dark side, we have cookies" scenes in media. I'm happy to see Gunn again. Looks like he might end up being more than just a one-off character (which elevates the last episode in retrospect). It's also really cute that Cordy is calling Willow "Will" now--I think this may be the first time she's done that!
