I got a bit frustrated with working on the Christmas piece because I was having trouble doing the lighting how I wanted to. I've always admired a lot of artist's shading work and recently the shading in pieces by an artist going by TheNameIsRadio have captivated me. I wanted to try and better understand how they do lighting, hoping to learn a thing or two about how to make shapes "pop" a bit better in my own work... and I also wanted to experiment with the mirror tool a little bit which I just learned how to do (Seems no matter how long I use CSP I'm always learning new stuff with it... even if it's stuff as basic as this lol.) -- so I made this piece ^^ -- I think I get the lighting at least a bit better, and I can't deny that it certainly makes round parts come out really nice and shapely.
You gain a much further appreciation of work by trying to break down the fundamentals of how it's put together I think, and this is certainly the case here. Also, the mirror tool is incredibly fun and makes for nice sketching time... besides the symmetry it offers is really pleasing to my eyes x3 -- I think I may try another piece or two like this sometime while I also work at the Christmas piece, which is still in the works! I'm thinking for that one I may stick to highlights and effectswork to keep things simple, since I do still intend to do the Christmas card and (likely) open comms this month, so my hands will be a bit full to do two fully rendered pieces.
Anywho, hopefully you guys enjoy this piece! It was a real blast making it. Have a nice evening!
Cheers~!
