Where Fishes Go Part 1 (9 Photos)

One of the goals of this shoot was to create something unique and not fall into the banality of classic underwater photography. Create an atmosphere of night diving in the full moon.

The first underwater studio opened in our city and I became interested in it. But everyone there was shooting in a rather trivial way, usually with red fabrics. And the colors of the photos were in light blue underwater colors. I wanted something completely unusual and atmospheric. So the idea of the story was “a naked girl swimming in the ocean at night”. The pool itself has a glass window for shooting so that the photographer could shoot underwater while being in a dry room. We shot with Ira for two hours with a break in the middle. She was very cold in the water, and the room for the photographer was very hot and humid. So it was an unusual and difficult shoot for both of us. In post-production, I chose dark green colors and found a lot of shots with corals and seabed for compositing. The secret of success here, as well as in the special effects for Jurassic Park, is a single source of light and deep shadows. The series itself had a lot of success after the release and I received more than one request to shoot more, but I decided that I would not shoot underwater anymore, so that this series would be one of the kind. Until I am convinced that I can show something new and unique from shooting underwater.

I still look back at this shoot. Truly a masterpiece and inspiration for many other creatives. I would love to hear your thoughts behind the planning, execution and creation of these sets
