Sacred Symbols+, Episode 478 | Coffee Break with Dustin
Added 2025-09-20 16:00:00 +0000 UTC
Hello and welcome back to Sacred Symbols+! This week, take a break with me (Dustin) and have a coffee! This is a mailbag episode so naturally I took your questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas. How's the Switch 2 doing in the early months? What's the GOTY so far? How do you survive at nerd conventions? Please enjoy.
The guy who wrote in about MHA / Eva needs to stand the fuck down. Lmfao.

No hate to Dustin at all, but Im not a fan of the solo SS+ in general. Especially now that Stelly is gone, it’s like I get one less podcast a week. IMO SS+ should always have atleast two chairs (interview / crossover)

Blood meridian is a challenging read for sure, but for what it’s worth the confusion is what makes it so memorable. It’s like reading a supernatural nightmare. Blood meridian ruined just about every other novel for me. Lyricism you didn’t even know was possible in the English language. Cormac McCarthy had to of just put his fingers on the type writer, cocked his head back, rolled his eyes to the darkest abyss and let the void use him as a vessel to communicate the darkest cosmic truths about men. He had an out of body experience writing that book.

Ay shouts out Joey Valence and Brae! Really loved their newest but I think Turnstile's newest was a step down. So far I have Clipse and Earl Sweatshirt vying for #1 but Clipse will probably be it for me. Such a moment for rap. Also loving the new Guerilla Toss, Aesop Rock, Amine, Lorde, and Chance albums

Gotta say I really don't get all the talk of a lack of interest in Yotei, or the "soft" hype. Tbh I really don't understand the point of digital pre-orders (at least until you're very close to the game, so you can preload and get any bonuses), so using that as metric of interest always seems odd to me. Having said that, I've seen the past couple days of Yotei topping the preorder charts on the PS store in load of regions - maybe people just leave it late to preorder it digitally (which again seems to make most sense to me)
Point I'm making is, I think we're talking in a bubble here, not just in terms of the LSM audience, but gaming media in general. It's a high quality single player follow-up to a well regarded title (which was probably a bit of a slow burner but ended up doing very well). I don't think it's gonna sell Spiderman numbers by any means, but I imagine Yotei is gonna do just fine.

another thing to consider with game key cards is that game devs are gonna use em in cases where reading directly off a cartridge is too slow. The Star Wars Outlaws devs got that game shrunk down to 22 gigs but they had to go game key card anyway because they needed the extra internal speed.

Ps6 could use cartridges, they wouldn't need carts as high performance as switch 2 because you would just install it to the drive, as the disc does now.

I only drink “coffee” at Starbucks. I love it for 2 reasons - 1. I request Dark Roast, I love the boldness and bitterness plus I can drink more coffee with less caffeine. 2. They have heavy cream (35 %) which is what I enjoy in my coffee if not Black. I don’t get fancy coffees there.
Suck an egg turd nugget. ✌️

Hey Dustin - also started reading again this year and love it. Cormac McCarthy is a great way to get started, but you’re correct that Blood Meridian is not the point of entry. If interested, just try The Road or No Country. Mass appeal, highly accessible, cheers.

When you mention Nintendo key cards and say 'I was going to do a video, but I dont think im quite educated on it enough'.....what a refreshing thing for someone who makes youtube videos to say! 👏 if only everyone had that mindset!
