Sacred Symbols, Episode 373 | That's Okay Man, 'Cause I Like the Abuse

For prospective PlayStation 5 owners, America's new tariff regime has struck at a most inopportune time. Having carved through their backfill of PS5 units in America, and seemingly moving at least some of the console's manufacturing process out of China, Sony still has to foot the bill to import the machine. A $50 increase across the board -- on standard and Pro units alike -- has led to much consternation. What do we think about the whole situation? Beware: It's impossible to talk about this issue sans politics. Plus: Hollow Knight: Silksong gets a surprise release date in literally two weeks, storied 'closer' Rod Fergusson joins Cloud Chamber to help ship the beleaguered fourth BioShock, Triangle Strategy randomly launches on PS5 (but not PS4) three years after its Switch debut, long-time studio lead Pete Parsons leaves Bungie after more than 20 years, PS3 JRPG Tales of Xillia is finally being remastered, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is there a desire for more modern and grounded military shooters? Should Guerrilla abandon Aloy as Horizon's protagonist? What's our hype level (if any) for Borderlands 4? Is Dustin's hometown well and truly haunted?

Comments

Walmart didn’t raise prices on the ps5 or the pro.

Interesting episode, enjoyed the transparency and the politics. On Mafia though, Colin has said he’s near the end and excited to see the connection to the other games. I don’t want to spoil anything but I’d maybe have a hard think about some of the characters names you’ve been associated/working with since the start

ButtonFingers

I think tariffs are definitely affecting the ps5 price increase. But I live in the UK and i can tell you that prices have gone up across the board to a frankly mental degree. Im in spain atm and I can tell you it's the same here too

Love Colin, and I’m far from a leftist - but dude came off like a proper Boomer in this episode 😅 All love.

Dustin: I think Nintendo is happy to raise the prices on the original Switch models and sell the remaining stock at that price and to encourage consumers to simply pony up for a Switch 2. It’s not about ethics, it’s about pushing the newer hardware

Kid-Organic

So many armchair economists regurgitating their favorite pundits talking points in these comments, beware

Sword of the sea is incredible man. I'm considering this Journey 2 for all intents and purposes

No mention of Sword of the Sea? Beautiful short lil indie. That's a great stoner game if I've ever played one (regarding the write in a few pods ago). Also the new Prince of Persia game just dropped, felt like it came out of nowhere. Haven't played it yet but looks cool

Does Chris not know of the mechanic in Battlefield 6, where you could ping the person that's pinging for a medic so they know a medic is on the way? But like it's supposed to be a team-based game, so one person has to acknowledge and the other person has to acknowledge so they could get revived. This guy's analytics be off sometimes.

Look, you are to late Colin and this whole U.S. is a victim mentality has got to stop. The previous generations made a decision which was the right call. The problem is that at that same time, companies lobbed and stopped new technologies from being the dominant production here in the states, looking at you solar panels. Chris also hits it on its head, robots are going to replace people period. So there is no way back. Our leaders flipped a switched and kicked the bucket down the hill for next generation to deal with while they put gold in their pockets.

I love Colin and LSM's transparency at the beginning of the episode!

I'm in Dustin's exact same situation regarding housing. Our household income has doubled since I bought my house in 2018, but we're priced out of moving, even with our equity. Literally almost everything in CT that isn't a dumpster fire is over $450k, even for just a modest home on a small lot. It's unbelievable.

I appreciate how open Colin is about the patreon data

DarthLemon616

It's not like it matters and I still respect his opinions. But, every time Chris comments on Call of Duty or Battlefield I feel he is way off base. Our taste and opinions are way off and he's slightly wrong about the facts and details about the titles which is understandable.
