My son is older now, so we inevitably end up playing the same games at the same time. He will often brag about being further ahead than I am in a given game -- or beating a boss in less attempts -- but he completely blows off the fact that he uses guides. If I struggle with a boss or a puzzle, I stay with it until I figure it out by myself; if he struggles, he looks online for the solution or for the best weapons/abilities to use to get through it. It's not the same... it just isn't. Someone else figured out how to beat the game, and all you did was copy them. I'm kool with guides for endgame/collectibles and for other optional stuff that you may have missed, but using a guide for game progression is just flat-out cheating in my opinion. The game beat you, not the other way around.

it has nothing to do with whether or not the game is good, but that doesn't make it irrelevant. You have to understand that we're living in a much more complex cultural and media landscape these days than in, say, the 1990s. These kinds of topics get extrapolated and passed around a broader social media sphere in ways that they never were before, and it impacts people's thinking, whether you like it or not. I don't think that's especially right, fair, or healthy, but it's the world we live in, and I think more people need to be aware of that. You're correct that it has nothing to do with the game's quality, and honestly in an ideal world your take would be a healthy one (it shouldn't really even be accounted for), but this is not an ideal world. to put it another way, when you say "who gives a shit," it's basically the equivalent of a person the sidelines of a massive battlefield saying "who gives a shit" as a number of gigantic armies clash on a plain before him. I know you, Guybrush Threepwood the individual, don't give a shit, and to be perfectly honest i don't either, but unfortunately many, MANY, MANY other people do, so that makes it something we have to deal with, like it or not. To ignore that, no offense, makes you look a little bit foolish.

the dragon age thing - who gives a shit. if the game sucks, it sucks. if its good , its good. I just don't see how any of this scar shit matters to the game being good or not.

I got a PRO!

If I may- and I THINK I was clear about this on the episode- I am not saying 'MEDS FOR EVERYONE AND ALWAYS!' but I am also not saying 'GET OFF THE MEDS!!!! BIG PHARMA IS BAD!!!!'...I mean, Big Pharma is often bad but it doesn't mean all the stuff they sell is bad. My main point: it simply isn't once size fits all when it comes to how people choose to work with their mental health challenges. And it has very little- if anything- to do with will power or changing your thoughts (unless your issues are best solved via Cognitive Behavioral Therapy- which is powerful stuff to be sure, as is mediation...try them TOGETHER for a mega boost!) BUT the take away IMO really should be the following: 1- when it comes to mental health, 1 size does NOT fit all and it's a dangerous thing to shove one's own solves or experiences on another because you don't know (and often times they don't either and sometimes their own docs don't even know) fully how their brain works and what is causing the pain and the best ways to remedy it/learn from it/grow from it. 2- Depression, addiction, all that shit sucks. On that we can all agree. But best intentions can often harm the person you are trying to help when you are laying down 'this is how it is!' advice. It really is case by case.

Colin, don’t listen to Jaffe you don’t “need” these medications. I’ve been someone that has been depressed and struggled with anxiety my entire life, I’m 28. For the last 4 years I smoked weed everyday, all day and medicated myself with it. Little did I know it was the wrong decision, smoking weed is completely counterintuitive to getting better. All it does is numb you so when you finally stop everything hits you 100x harder. What you need to do is stop with the weed, it will be hard, you’ll feel like shit and then better and then back to your normal self; you must find comfort in that. When you finally get it out of your system everything will hit you. Your parents divorce, past relationships, the split with Kinda Funny, the news articles people wrote about you and everything else you struggle with. Just as the passing of my friend 10 years ago hit me, my mom’s cancer, terrible relationships, the collapse of my YouTube career, my dad being a heroin addict/crack head and more. Weed is addictive and people saying it isn’t is pure cope. The hard truth is that a sober life is a more difficult life and that goes with anything, but it’s more rewarding. Trust me man you’ll be much happier, I’d love to stay here and chat but I’m at work and the floors need to be swept, sending much love from RI. PS I Love you; the itch never goes away. I wish I could grind up those dank Yarnham nugs when I clock out, but that’s the fools way out. Stop running and start facing yourself.

These are steadily becoming the best damn episodes on last stand. You two have an awesome dynamic. Super goofy, then insightful, then very deep and true Then back to fuckin around. Love it. Keep ‘em coming ❤️

When pretty much every DEI game fails, even the big ones attached to huge IP's, and games without DEI succeed, when are we going to call a spade a spade? Id rather we stop agenda pushing in games altogether, both left and right. Make a fun game and stop worrying about putting messages into it UNLESS the games story and world calls for it. No one complains about the political messages in watchdogs and the division, because it fits the world and story. Top surgery scars in dragon age, makes no sense. Its such a clear agenda push that clashes with the world and lore. For another example look at dion in FF16. No one bats an eye that hes openly gay because him being gay isnt his entire character/gimmick. Hes a great character who just so happens to be gay. This is the difference.

Episode was awesome

I was hoping for another political constellation after the "second" debate (even though there were different candidates this time), but I'm sure this will be great too. And maybe it's best to wait till the election for the next political one since you guys could cover more without information becoming outdated quickly.

Jon Barnett

also thought I'd throw it out there: as a fan of dragon age, I do think it's just kinda strange to have things like top surgery or other advanced 21st century surgeries available in a medieval fantasy setting. sci-fi or cyberpunk, makes total sense.

for a long time, as a psych major, I really felt like the average person shouldn't need psychiatric medications, that it was a sign we as a society are going in the wrong direction in different ways, and that resolving typical instances of anxiety, depression, and other intrusive thought disorders should be primarily dealt with through CBT--through following harmful automatic thoughts to their illogical conclusions. If a thought or idea is not helpful, it is inherently illogical. it takes lot of work to learn to identify and resolve this type of thinking. recently, I had a sort of revelation: life isn't the olympics, we're not held to arbitrary standards like the olympics or something, and medications are really a technology to deal with problems that may be more common with modern/western ways of life. In a sense, not being armed with medication and sticking with therapeutic techniques is like going to fight a dragon and just equipping a sword. you might win and maybe sometimes you want that challenge, but there's nothing wrong with bringing a shield or suit of armor. balance your equip load for the playstyle that works for you right now.

Chris

Demon's Souls was miyazaki first thing that he came to after it started, Dark souls was an interation on that. Sekiro elaborated on Tenchu, and Elden Ring was co-created by George RR Martin. Bloodborne is his baby. No one is fucking with that. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the reason nothing is happening.
