Co-DMing a Dungeons And Dragons Campaign (VIDEO SCRIPT)
Added 2020-12-23 18:01:01 +0000 UTC(La'Ron is waiting for Phil to get on Zoom. Phil's screen turns on, and La'Ron looks up. Both give each other looks)
Both:
You look like shit (pauses and smirks). Thank you! (Snickers)

La'Ron
So did you take a look at everything yet?
Phil
I did! And I just have one question!
La'Ron
(Takes a sip of coffee) Shoot
Phil
So the setting is called Tablia, right?
LaRon
Yeah?
Phil
You had the first session take place in the city-state of Carbon...
LaRon
(Smiles) Yeah?
Phil
And nobody at the table figured out that the landscape is inspired by the Periodic Table of Elements yet?
LaRon
I know, right?!?! We're already in Aluminum and no one's figured it out yet!
Phil
That's insane!
LaRon
Absolutely bizarre!
Phil
Honestly, part of the reason why I agreed to co-DM this campaign with you was because I just wanted to know for sure that this was how you based your setting. That being said, I have SO MANY PLANS for the noble gasses..
La’Ron
(Takes a sip of his coffee) Oh yeah? Like what?
Phil
Well, (Insert a bit you like. We can edit the back-and-forth banter once we get the meat of it sorted out).
Phil
So I like the feel of everything. I got a lot of Final Fantasy 7 and 8 vibes from the worldbuilding
La’Ron
Thank you! Yeah, that’s pretty much what I was going for. ESPECIALLY 8
Phil
Why especially 8?
La’Ron
Oh. Because that’s the only one out of the two I ever played.
Phil
You’ve never played 7?
La’Ron
I mean, I’ve seen my friends play it. (Points) I’ve ALSO seen Advent Children!
Phil
So you’ve seen the sequel movie, but never played the game its based on
La’Ron
Dude, you’re talking to someone who saw Ghostbusters 2 and Predator 2 before the originals. I don’t see what the big deal is.
Phil
But at the end of the day, you still saw the original movies! Did you at least play the remake?
La’Ron
Oh, I have the remake! I just haven’t played it yet!
Phil
(Exasperated) WHY??
La’Ron
Because I’m waiting until all of the parts are out so I can play the whole thing uninterrupted!
Phil
(Pauses in thought) Okay, that makes sense...
(La’Ron gestures to the camera in a “see?” type of motion)
Phil
Anyway, yeah. World’s great. Lots of room to expand, considering your first campaign only took place in like...4 locations-slash-elements (holds back chuckle). I did notice some themes in the first campaign you ran that I wanted to talk to you about. Specifically you using bosses and NPCs as like...the avatars-slash-scions of non-D&D deities
La’Ron
Alright
Phil
Well, first of all, I liked the idea of using bosses and NPCs as like...the avatars-slash-scions of non-D&D deities and using rips in the multiverse to establish those connections. There’s so much we can do with that, story-wise. Now I’m only asking this because you already covered the topic in your first campaign. If we use this concept in this upcoming one, can we steer away from using Cthulhu?
La’Ron
Is it the implied racism? It’s the implied racism, isn’t it?
Phil
Yeah, it’s pretty much the implied racism...
La’Ron
That’s totally fair, dude. But in my defense, I used him at the height of his popularity in the 2010’s. Plus, I didn’t know just how much of a shitlord Lovecraft actually was when I ran that campaign. It was only like...2 years ago that I learned exactly what he named his black cat
Phil
And its not like Cthulu ASKED to be born. ESPECIALLY from a shitlord. He’s just like the rest of us who have to pay rent and bills just because two people decided to bone one day!
La’Ron
EXACTLY!
Phil
Still don’t want to use him as the big bad though, if that’s okay with you
La’Ron
(Chuckles) Yeah, that’s fine
Phil
Okay, I think I have everything I need to get an outline going. Is there anything else I need to know?
La’Ron
(Sheepish) Promise you won’t get mad?
Phil
(Visual concern on his face) ...Promise.
La’Ron
I, uh... I kinda made a DM PC...
Phil
Oh, La’Ron...
La’Ron
I know, I know! I’m sorry! But I just love this character so much!
Phil
(Sighs) What’s their name?
La’Ron
His name is Wallace Bullheart, and he’s a Fighter/Sorcerer Minotaur. He was a party NPC for the first campaign I ran, and then after he died I brought him back in campaign 2 for plot reasons because the party chose 1 door over another in their first dungeon.
Phil
Okay, 1: That name is fucking adorable. 2: You made him a CHOICE NPC?
La’Ron
You know how in Dragon Age Inquisition how you either get Dorian or Cole to join the party first depending on whether you recruit the mages or the templars? I kinda wanted to do that with the second campaign.
Phil
I dunno...
La’Ron
His husband is also a Leonin Blacksmith named Ludwig that speaks in a Russian accent.
Phil
I immediately love him, and I want him to be part of the campaign.
