Readers, I know that I promised you an Anime Saturday of Beastars at the end of my first Casual Furry video

And while I never gave a date on when that video will be coming out, I feel like I need to inform you that THIS video is not going to be a replacement for a full-fledged review of season 1

It’s still coming, I assure you.

However, as a bisexual individual who is in one way or another associated with the furry fandom, I feel the fact that I have gone this long without making at least SOMETHING Beastars related when all these other content creators have -- who aren’t even furries -- is kinda inexcusable

Also, there’s the fact that I’ve only watched the first 5 episodes of season 1 as of the recording of this video, but it’s enough for me to at least have an opinion on most of the main cast of characters in the anime and properly react/guestimate some of the actions of others that haven’t been introduced yet.

That’s why for I decided to take a handful of said Beastars cast, give you my opinions of their character design as both a media consumer and a casual furry for the characters I’ve been introduced to, and the ones I haven’t.

Am I going to be right about the characters I haven’t seen in the anime yet? I dunno! I haven’t seen them in the anime yet!

Either way, y’all gonna tell me I’m wrong about them. Even the ones I HAVE been introduced to in the anime! So just enjoy the journey, alright??

Legosi

I know at least 3 Legosi’s, and went to High School with about 5 of them.

Quiet, introverted, walks with bad posture, was always backstage help with the sets and tech when it came to theater productions.

They even have others looking at his quiet demeanor and taking it as a possible threat. Like, he’s LITERALLY a walking stereotype.

It also doesn’t help that the way he’s depicted is like... 1/5th of the IRL furry community, real talk?

Like I’ve only been to one con back in 2010, but while I was there, I guarantee you that I remember seeing and meeting SO MANY LEGOSIS. SO. MANY. LEGOSIS.

Louis

I feel like when he made Louis, Itagaki-san was all like “How can I subtly show that Louis is both low and high-key horny for Legosi? I know! I’ll make him a deer!”

Like, do you know how many kinks Louis displayed with Legosi in just the 1st episode alone? Shit’s ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Also, lets not forget that the depiction of Louis can also act as an allegory for why it’s absolutely not okay to sexually fetishize other races.

Oh. I’m sorry, are you not READY for that conversation? I could’ve sworn that you were...

Haru

Even if you didn’t watch the anime or read the manga and just went off of images alone, she has that smile that just says “don’t ask questions you ain’t prepared to know the answers for, bitch,” and I love that about her.

Also she’s an anime protag and love interest, which means she’s practically a grown woman. Leave her alone, mind your business and let her live her life. Hashtag Respect Sex Workers

Jack

Jack is that little brother-slash-younger cousin or nephew you have that you LOVE, but they just hav too much energy for you to deal with on a regular basis.

He's that type that has your 10 year old self questioning if you even want kids, when it’s a thought that shouldn’t even cross your mind because you're 10 years old.

Like you should be worried about passing your spelling test on Friday so your mom can get you that new Power Rangers toy the day after, and 6 year old Timmy got you thinking like “Damn. Is Human reproduction even WORTH it at this point? I can always adopt.”

I think he makes a good extroverted best friend for Legosi because of that fact, and making him a labrador is like...the perfect way of fursonafying the idea of Joey from Yu-Gi-Oh! needing to take Ritalin

Bill

Bill’s the type of dude who always questions everyone else's sexuality to the point where you feel like he’s doing it to try and get a better understanding of his own. “Dude, are you gay? Dude, are you gay? Dude...am I gay???”

Gouhin

This is the sexiest mainstream panda anthro Ive ever seen.

I had to say mainstream, because even if you’re just...a baby in the community, furries know how sexy Grisser can draw panda dudes. It’s like one of his specialties.

Juno

Okay. I’m only 5 episodes in, so I haven’t been introduced to her yet. With that being said, looking at her, I already feel a certain type of way about Juno.

She looks like the chick in every boy love and yaoi anime that tries to sabotage the budding relationship of the main protag because she’s not the love interest. I haven’t even reached that part of the anime that introduces her yet, and I can already tell.

Like, she looks like she was created just for a “we should stick to our own kind” narrative with Legosi, and I’m already tired.

“What are you talking about, she’s not like that. Look at the way she’s drawn!” Bitch, that’s EXACTLY why!

Hopefully she proves me wrong, but girl you got 7 episodes to do it

Yes, I have 7 more episodes of Beastars season 1 to watch. And I guarantee you once I finish it, I will start working on that hot-ass Anime Saturday review of it.

But it only just recently dawned on me that as a casual furry, there’s actually a lot for me to talk about and react to.

Like more fanart of different animated series, more furry and scalie characters in anime
