(Reads a Book) Oh! Sorry! Didn’t see you there! (Puts book down) Hi. My name is La’Ron Readus. And I want to explain why you should wear a mask in public
_______
With the ever rising threat of the current health and safety crisis the nation is under, that upon verbally mentioning its name will immediately disqualify this PSA for proper monetization
Self quarantining, proper sanitization and social distancing have proven to be the best ways to combat said crisis. Especially for those living in a nation that has made it clear that it does not care about the poor people and/or minorities that reside within it.
Part of social distancing -- which is doing everything in your power to stay six feet away from other individuals if you have to leave your house for any reason at all -- involves wearing a face mask that covers the lower portion of your face from your nose downward
The reason why these type of masks are recommended to wear while practicing social distancing, is because depending on the type of covering you have, they keep particles containing the current threat within it if a person wearing said mask is unknowingly positive
Which, thanks to the combination of an abundance of victim cosplayers and the current presidential cabinet, happens to be a lot of people
That way despite staying 6 feet away from individuals, said crisis can’t be transferred to any living being, any food or dinnerware, or any purchasable goods if said positive individual happens to sneeze or cough without covering their mouths and pass it along that way.
Because of this added protection, some counties and states across the nation have mandated wearing a mask to be absolutely necessary when traveling outside of your home.
And some businesses both big and small have added wearing a mask to the famous “no shoes no shirt no service” policy that has been in place since the 1960’s
Yet despite this, there are a group of individuals who refuse to wear a mask for multiple reasons.
Some that, despite the origins of the argument in question, have grown from health concerns that can be easily answered and explained
While others are so rooted in both white privilege and victimization fetishizm, that giving explanations aren’t worth your damn time
And while I agree that any mask is better than no mask in this regard, it’s good to understand the difference between the different type of masks that are out there and currently available.
With that being said, if you are in fact one of said individuals who is concerned about your mask or the masks of others not properly doing their jobs, then the wrong mask is being worn.
The masks in question are either sponge masks, which are made solely for fashion and have little to no filter protection from viruses, bacteria, dust and pollen
Handmade masks that are completely made of fabric that are washable, rewearable and offer breathability but only offer protection from everything but viruses half of the time
Or carbon-activated masks, whose sole purpose -- while also capable of filtering out the same properties as a cloth fabric mask -- is to filter out odors and isn’t built for virus protection at all.
If protection for yourself and for others is your first and highest priority, then an FFP1 mask or a similar mask in comparison is the one you should be wearing
It’s a mask commonly worn by light construction and clean-up crew workers, and offers the highest percentage of protection available in face masks against viruses and the second-highest in everything else.
Because of this, it’s a traditional part and a must-have piece of any ensemble available for Personal Protective Equipment. PPE for short.
On the other hand, the mask is made out of a rather thick material. Causing certain people to argue that the density would make it hard for them to breathe. Possibly even being at risk of breathing in their recently exhaled Carbon Dioxide
(Stares at camera)
Fortunately, that is ALSO an easy fix. Because Surgical masks offer the same level of protection from viruses, bacteria, dust and pollen as the FFP1, but offers more breathability
But you shouldn’t buy surgical masks for yourselves, because the doctors and nurses that are currently treating individuals impacted by the current health and safety crisis need them more.
No, there’s no clever quip or bit to follow that statement. Just don’t do it.
So what type of mask should you get if you want protection, breathability AND care about hospital workers? A mask with an N95 filter.
Not only does it allow fresh air to be filtered in and CO2 to leave out while still providing the same amount of protection as surgical and FFP1 masks
But it also provides complete protection from bacteria, dust and pollen
And nowadays, washable masks with insertable N95 filters are easy to come by.
I should know. I have one.
While I had no problem wearing the FFP1 masks that I had thanks to my previous employer when I had to go shopping, I knew that I would eventually have to buy a mask with N95 filters if I wanted to exercise properly by jogging around my suburban neighborhood during quarantine. So I did just that.
Then after I ordered said mask with N95 filters, Ahmaud Arbery was shot and killed by racist white folk while jogging in Georgia during quarantine, and I no longer wanted to do that.
Nevertheless, my mask with insertable N95 filters is the best investment I’ve made to help keep myself and others safe during the current health and safety crisis we’re all currently in.
As you can see, there are PLENTY of different types of masks out there that you can and should wear.
And depending on how long you’re going to be outside the comfort of your own home, any and all of the different variations I mentioned should be taken into consideration
And let's not forget about the many resources available across the internet that can show you where to purchase or how to make multiple variants of the various types of masks I previously explained. Even those with breathing filters.
It’s almost as if no matter what your current circumstances are, there’s damn near no excuse!
Because at the end of the day, it all boils down to the same point: You should wear a mask
If not to protect others, to protect yourself
Which honestly should’ve been the main point made in order to get people of this nation to actually wear them, because the majority of them who live here are selfish as fuck
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to watch this PSA on why you should wear a mask in public.
I hope you have a better understanding of the different types that are available, and as a result have your concerns about wearing them calmed.
But if by the end of this video you still refuse to wear a mask and practice social distancing because you believe it infringes upon your liberties, you think the government is trying to control you and that it actively promotes fascism, then perish.
