Brie Larson as Captain Marvel isn't the Problem (VIDEO SCRIPT)

Readers, as you may already know, more Phase 5 news broke over the course of the weekend in regards to the sequel to Captain Marvel.

/Not only has it been officially announced since Kevin Feige’s initial tease of it at the end of Marvel Studios’ presentation at 2019’s San Diego Comic Con, but that WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell is currently in final negotiations to take up the writing duties for the film, and are looking to replace directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck with a single female director./

And as someone who enjoyed the first Captain Marvel movie, I personally feel that all of these changes that are being made for the sequel are actually for the better.

Honestly, there were too many writers attached to Captain Marvel.

Not only did you have Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, but you also had Nicole Perlman, Meg LeFauve, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

That’s five writers that both worked on the initial story and the screenplay; it was WAY too crowded, and I’m actually surprised that the final result turned out as fine as it did upon finding that out.

Reigning in the amount of writers to 1 while at the same time having a single director I feel will help the narrative flow a bit better, without having to worry about a cluster of conflicting voices trying to tell a single story.

And that’s not to say that Boden and Fleck aren’t good directors in their own right. The fact that they still want them around for Disney+ projects shows that they were impressed with what they brought to the table

But it’s obvious that Marvel Studios has a plan with how the Captain Marvel franchise is going to play a factor in the overall story of Phase 5 by transitioning the timeline of the sequel from the 90’s to current-day timeline of the MCU

Especially considering that Megan McDonnell is a writer on WandaVision -- the show that’ll be introducing the adult version of Monica Rambeau into the MCU. It’s pretty clear with that move alone that they want to establish some sort of consistency.

And as far as the director is concerned, I look at the change in the same way I looked at Marvel tagging out Joe Johnston and tagging in the Russos for Captain America. Joe was the perfect director for Steve’s World War II origin story, and the Russo’s were the perfect pair to lead Steve into the modern world of betrayal and espionage

Yes, Readers. Despite my overall enjoyment of Captain Marvel as per my initial review of it when it was in theaters, I will gladly admit that if there was a problem that needed to be addressed for the sequel, it was a case of there being too many creative voices trying REALLY hard to unify under one banner.

Some people thought it was successful in pulling that off, while others disagree and both properly and efficiently stated their case

/My fellow YouTuber Laura Crone is actually one of those people, and produced one of the best videos I’ve seen on the topic that talks about a lot of the things the movie wanted to be. You can click the link in the corner or in the description box below if you want to watch it, which I highly recommend you do./

But I assure you. One thing that ISN’T the problem here, is Brie Larson’s portrayal of Carol Danvers

But try telling that to the loud minority of “fans” that have been after her since they told her that she needs to smile more, and she replied with “lol U Mad?”

No, seriously; there’s been so much dischord and fake outrage made not only against her because of it, but against the entire franchise.

One could even say that the whole Get Woke and Go Broke “movement” that was sparked because of this.

And you would’ve thought that all of this talk about making Captain Marvel “an SJW propaganda piece” that was gonna flop in the box office would’ve been immediately silenced after the movie’s success initially proved them wrong

But with the official announcement that the sequel to Captain Marvel was underway, they decided to come crawling back

This time by stating that the act of hiring a female writer, director, and potentially a female crew is discrimination against men (laughs and huffs in visible frustration)

And once again going after Brie Larson herself

/Who calls for her to be recast in Captain Marvel 2 in the form of a petition, that as of this recording has almost 29,000 signatures out of 30,000./

The kicker here, is that they attempted to disguise it by saying the reasoning is in favor of people of color and the LGBT community.

/Due to Monica Rambeau technically being the first woman in Marvel Comics to hold the Captain Marvel title before Carol/

Why do I think this is petition is just a disguise for toxic sexists to display their hate for Brie Larson? Well let’s look at the comments on the petition, shall we?

/Earl O from Georgia says, Brie Larson is a terrible actor in this role. Needs a new take by a new actor who do this character justice and not alienate fans./

That’s actually the most common “safe” way of stating hate for Brie since the sexism started to display its ugly head, and it usually spirals out of control from there.

/Just like Brynna B.’s comment, Because she’s ugly and we deserve a hotter Captain Marvel. And she’s not black./

Had to add that last bit to make it seem like they were down for the cause.

/Here’s a ridiculous one from Jayda from Texas, saying her performance was -- and I quote -- less "I'm a strong fighter and ready to defend" and more "I'm captain marvel I'm better than you" sort of entitlement. She also says that Larson -- and I quote -- is incredibly sexist towards men/

...I don’t think Jayda exists, guys

Like I said; I am absolutely convinced through the comments that I suggested along with the countless others on the petition that their reasoning for creating it wasn’t because they cared about Monica Rambeau being featured as Captain Marvel

Especially if you take into consideration that Marvel Studios has been making active effort to introduce her adult self in the MCU by casting Teyonah Parris to play her in WandaVision -- the same show that the writer for Captain Marvel 2 is currently working on

So, no. Unless you just weren’t digging her performance in Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, Brie Larson’s portrayal of Carol Danvers isn’t a real problem that the movie had, if you are in fact someone who believes that there was a problem with Captain Marvel

And just like I’ve stated in my video about CW’s Batwoman facing the same type of toxic hate when its first trailer was released, it’s because of people like...THIS...that cause individuals with legit and genuine criticism to keep their opinions to themselves because they don’t want people thinking they have ANYTHING to do with this fuckery

It’s instances like this where it’s important to constantly remind ourselves that the voices and the fake outrage sparked by these “fans” mean less than nothing

As the recognition has proven, as the turnout has proven and as the box office numbers have proven, their attempts at sowing discord will only fall on the ears of those who willingly enter the echochamber they created for themselves while the rest of us go about our lives because we got better shit to do.

And if you are one of those individuals who have genuine criticism about something that a very small section of the internet has made it impossible for you to share out of fear that you’ll be lumped up with said individuals by default

Then allow me to be the one to let you know that it is possible to both criticize something if its coming from a genuine place, and condemn those who spew hate and vitriol just for the sake of it.

You just gotta be prepared to do the work to show that there’s a clear difference between you and them.

Think it’s impossible? It’s not. I’ve done it. I’ve seen others do it. Laura Crone’s done it in the form of a video essay that she’s put her whole-ass foot in. Everyone that I know that has legit criticisms about Captain Marvel’s narrative has not only succeeded in sharing it with the world, but has done so without being associated with the very loud 1% of toxicity that are leeching off of the things we enjoy.

Hell, if anything, they show through their criticism that what they have to say doesn’t make a difference. Because while they bring nothing of merit and substance to back up their obviously fake outrage, we do.

Not to say that we’re better than them, but... (pauses and thinks) Wait, no, yeah, that’s actually what I AM trying to say; yeah, we’re better than you...
