The State of the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Script (VIDEO SCRIPT)

Readers, it’s been just under 9 months since James Gunn has been rehired by Disney and Marvel Studios to produce, write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

And since then, we’ve heard...absolutely nothing about the film, because he’s been working on The Suicide Squad for DC Films

And it’s not like anyone is MAD about it either; Gunn working on the DC property that Warner Brothers clearly wanted to emulate according to the cut we got of David Ayer’s movie thanks to Vol. 1’s success, has a lot of fans and casual moviegoers alike very excited to see what he comes up with for the follow-up

If anything, people are just content with the fact that he’ll be moving on to Guardians 3 once he’s done with The Suicide Squad

But I’m not blind, guys. I know that there are a good amount of people out there who are absolutely stoked for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and are just ready to absorb any and all information they come across

Whether its official, whether they’re rumors, whether they’re script leaks from 4Chan which should be...the REDDEST of flags in the history of EXISTENCE

Despite people knowing and understanding the current state of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 now that James Gunn is back in the captain’s chair, there are definitely people out there who are just looking for ANYTHING

Well, it turns out that this past weekend, we got something

Specifically in the form of previous Doctor Who companion and current MCU Nebula, Karen Gillan

/Who revealed in an interview with Yahoo Movies UK promoting her directorial debut “The Party’s Just Beginning,” that she’s read James Gunn’s finished script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and that it’s both amazing and a wonderful script./

Now, those of us that have been following the progress of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 since before he was initially let go of the project, know that the script for the movie had been finished for quite some time. Over a year, as a matter of fact

/We know this, because James posted this image of the complete script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on his social media accounts, back in June 25 of 2018. Not even a month before the initial announcement that he was fired./ James Gunn - Guardians 3 Tweet

And we can DOUBLE confirm this

/Yet despite all of these facts floating around the internet, news sources seem to be using Karen Gillan’s quotes to imply that the script HADN’T been finished for over a year, and has only just now been finished during the production of The Suicide Squad. Even when -- coincidentally enough -- Karen Gillan confirmed in mid-December of 2018 for People magazine that the script Gunn posted about in late June of 2018 did exist, because she -- and I quote -- had a little teeny peek./ Guardians 3 - Inside the Magic, Karen Gillan - People Magazine 1, 2

So what could this possibly mean? Why would news sources say that the script has only been RECENTLY finished thanks to Karen Gillan’s recent interview, when it’s actually been finished since June of 2018?

Well, in order to understand why, we have to take a closer look at what transpired since James Gunn was initially fired the eve of 2018’s San Diego Comic Con.

As you all know, before he was let go, James Gunn was supposed to help supervise the cosmic side of the MCU from Phase 4 onward.

/And according to a couple of quote retweet replies to a twitter account that has since deleted the initial question tweets in a Q&A Gunn hosted back in October of 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was supposed to be what initially launched the next Infinity Saga like story for his newly appointed end of the MCU despite it being the final installment of the current iteration of the team/ Phase 4 - James Gunn Tweets 1, 2

These plans were of course scrapped when not only Gunn was originally let go, but also when Marvel Studios couldn’t find a replacement director in time to stick to their initial Phase 4 schedule and were forced to put production on Vol. 3 on hold.

Resulting in the Phase 4 roster we received when it was revealed during San Diego Comic Con despite his rehiring, with more than likely The Eternals replacing Guardians 3’s original Phase 4 slot.

So with Guardians Vol. 3 no longer being the Phase 4 movie to kick off the planned saga for the cosmic side of the MCU, common sense and context clues throughout its development tells us that it’s being pushed back to a spot in Phase 5

/Especially with James Gunn taking on The Suicide Squad for DC and Warner Brothers before his eventual rehire, and that currently being his priority reasons why there were both no big announcement for the film, or it being placed on the Phase 4 roster during Comic Con 2019/ Phase 4 - James Gunn Tweets 3

Also the fact that it’s no longer the beginning of Marvel Studios’s overarching cosmic saga that will now kick off with The Eternals, means that whatever Gunn had planned with the script he initially finished in June of 2018 will now have to be reworked. Especially if the rumors about Vol. 3 taking place 10 years after Vol. 2 are true.

The closest confirmation we have of this is from James’ own brother Sean Gunn

And while we don’t necessarily know how MUCH tweaking he’ll have to do,

Taking into consideration everything previously mentioned INCLUDING the fact that the script that was completed in 2018 was apparently a rough draft

There might actually be enough of it to warrant that what the current news reports are saying about the script being finished is actually based on fact

So if you were one of those individuals who looked at how articles and videos were using Karen Gillan’s latest words about the script for Guardians 3 and were considering calling “Clickbait,” I’m here to let you know that’s not really necessary...for once.

Considering that the current rumors are that Vol. 3 is currently scheduled to begin production in 2020 as opposed to 2021 as previously reported, the reveal of the script being at least recently finalized holds a bit of merit. Especially when you take everything I said in this video into consideration

I’m pretty sure we’ll get a bit more official info regarding the state of the film in 2020 once his work on The Suicide Squad ends and production of Guardians 3 begins

But until that happens, I hope this explanation of the current state of things is enough to tide over everyone who’s been fiending for any info on Volume 3

I mean, I KNOW it’s not...But I can dream.
