Black Adam Movie Rumors (VIDEO SCRIPT)

Readers, as you know, Dwayne The Rock Johnson has been campaigning to play Shazam supervillain Black Adam pretty much since...the end of the 20th Century
No, that’s not even an exaggeration. Ever since he started his transition from the WWE to Hollywood, he’s been in talks to play Black Adam for the longest.
It wasn’t until a few years ago that we finally got confirmation by Warner Brothers, DC and Dwayne himself that his dream to portray Black Adam would finally come to fruition in the form of a solo movie in the DCEU. Or at least DC Films in general.
Since then however, we’ve received Aquaman and Shazam with only talks about what direction the Black Adam movie was going and whether or not it was going to fit in the same continuity as Shazam, considering the fact that it’s in the same universe as the Zack Snyder DC Films and is currently in a weird shifting process as far as where it’s gonna head after the Justice League film.
After all, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is the same Harley Quinn from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad which is PART of the DCEU.
Which is also the same Harley in the upcoming Birds of Prey movie and is also the same Harley in James Gunn soft follow-up to Suicide Squad despite it pretty much being a soft reboot at this point.
So with DC Films’ current state of its own continuity in flux and no news about the movie really announced since the initial announcement that the film was happening -- especially since they opted to have Doctor Sivana as the villain of the Shazam movie instead of Black Adam -- we didn’t really have any idea how far along the Black Adam movie was outside of side interviews by Dwayne from time to time.
/That is, until he posted this artwork on his Instagram account by Jim Lee mid November 2019, announcing that the movie now has an official release date of December 22, 2021/ Black Adam - Dwayne Instagram
So as you can imagine, as soon as Warner Brothers, DC Comics and Dwayne Johnson himself made the announcement that work on the Black Adam movie would soon begin, the rumor mills began to turn.
Some containing info that came straight from Dwayne himself considering how interwoven he is in the movie, others that began to branch off from what he said
And others that -- considering the source -- makes me wanna side-eye the entire-ass internet.
So here are some of the rumors about the Black Adam movie that have been kicked up and are currently flying around now that production on the Shazam spinoff will soon be underway.
/The inevitable showdown between Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Zac Levy’s Shazam is still a ways away./
This I’m pretty sure is actually true.
/Not only did Dwayne himself confirmed this in an interview he had with ScreenRant during press junkets for Jumanji: The Next Level/ Black Adam - ScreenRant 1
/But the mid-credit scene for Shazam hinted at the next threat that Billy Batson and the rest of the Shazam family would take on would be a teamup of Doctor Sivana and Mr. Mind alongside the Monster Society of Evil./
/If you follow this up with the fact that Shazam 2 was officially greenlit in April 2019 and is bringing back the writer and director of the first, along with the fact that its going in production in 2020 alongside Black Adam, it’s pretty easy to figure out that Black Adam isn’t gonna pull a Joker ala Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight and make Billy’s life a living hell in either the next installment of the Shazam franchise or in his own movie/ https://www.thewrap.com/henry-gayden-shazam-sequel/, Shazam 2 - ScreenRant Headline
/Black Adam Will Feature other DC Heroes, including Hawkman and the Justice Society of America/
This is another one that I believe, and that’s mostly because it came out of Dwayne’s mouth himself.
While he did state that the character’s interaction with Shazam is still a ways away in that same interview ScreenRant had with Dwayne during promoting Jumanji: The Next Level
/He did let it slip that the movie will be introducing casual moviegoers to the Justice Society of America for the first time ever on the big screen./ Black Adam - ScreenRant 2
This includes a lot of Golden Age DC heroes that only really exist in the mainstream thanks to the CW Arrowverse, and Golden Age equivalent of modern heroes we all know.
Including the Alan Scott Green Lantern, the Jay Garrick Flash and -- you guessed it -- Hawkman.
/More specifically the Carter Hall version of Hawkman, who is the reincarnation of the ancient Egyptian prince Khufu./
And if Black Adam’s own Ancient Egyptian lineage is left unchanged in this movie despite Dwayne himself being half black and half samoan, this element could be a nice tie-in between the two characters.
As far as whether or not that’ll happen is up for debate, because the Justice Society of America roster is just as big as the roster of the Justice LEAGUE of America, and there are multiple iterations and teams
That’s partially why despite Dwayne Johnson confirming the JSA in the Black Adam movie, I’m still filing it in the rumor pile until we get something a bit more concrete as far as which JSA team we’re talking about. Especially when it comes to specific characters like Hawkman
Or my favorite, Doctor Fate
“Who is rumored to be making an appearance in Black Adam and is looking to cast either Michael Fassbender or a Michael Fassbender type for the role.”
Now despite the JSA reveal, I’m iffy on believing this rumor
The source of this story is from an article on We Got This Covered dot com, which kinda regularly reports rumors on superhero movies from inside studio sources that only really happen to be true like, 40-50% of the time?
Apparently, their inside source regarding the state of the Black Adam movie actually gave them the scoop about the JSA being in the movie a year before Dwayne revealed it in the press junket for Jumanji: The Next Level
As a matter of fact, almost every article regarding anything DC Films REALLY cares about you knowing that their inside sources were the first to break the news to the internet about ANYTHING before it was confirmed by more reliable sources.
But despite them doing that, their track record regarding the accuracy of these inside scoops is still wishy-washy, and I can’t really trust them to be accurate all the time.
It’s also a news source that’s regularly credited by another rumor mill site that I don’t completely trust called Heroic Hollywood, and they just...they just need to calm down.
As much as I would love to see Doctor Fate on screen, I would definitely be stoked if he was introduced in the Black Adam solo flick. Especially considering he IS one of the most recognizable members of the JSA
And outside of comics, the Justice League animated series and cameos in Smallville and Young Justice, the only other place individuals might only know him is Injustice 2
But it’s like I said about the Hawkman situation; there are multiple iterations of the JSA, and there’s a chance that the main group that consists of these characters currently rumored to be portrayed in the Black Adam movie won’t make it
So until more proof presents itself that these characters will in fact be in Black Adam, I’m not holding my breath regarding taking this as gospel.
Speaking of which, here’s ANOTHER report from We Got This Covered
“Stating that because Hawkman is slated to be Black Adam’s opposition in this movie, Henry Cavill’s Superman is slated to be his opposition in the sequel.”
...The sequel (pauses) They JUST announced the first one
Also, Henry is, uh...(laughs) Henry’s gonna be a bit busy...
No, I’m not completely ruling him out of reprising Superman again, especially in a Black Adam movie, considering that both Black Adam and Shazam take place in a more lighthearted variant of the DCEU
/And that goes double since Cavill himself revealed in Men’s Health that he hasn’t abandoned the role like The Hollywood Reporter stated he was being forced to do back in September of 2018/
/There’s also the fact that Dwayne teased the possible bout on his instagram Christmas of 2016 with the two of them drinking Jack Daniels/
/And when Hiram Garcia -- one of the producers for Black Adam -- was asked about the rumor during the press junket for Jumanji: The Next Level, he was very good at saying a lot of nothing regarding the accuracy of it all./
But the truth of the matter is, not only has Warner Brothers decided to stop playing DC projects so close to the chest until they see a proper payoff like with Todd Phillip’s Joker,
/But The Witcher literally got approved for a second season on Netflix before season 1 even had a chance to premiere on the streaming service, and they start their production of said season in early 2020 for a 2021 release./
So I’m not saying that there isn’t evidence that supports this rumor, because there TOTALLY is.
It just so happens that because of OTHER evidence and choices made by certain parties, things don’t really equal out the way that they should in order for me to consider this as MORE than a rumor.
Two things ARE for sure, though. Not only are we FINALLY going to see Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam on the big screen,
But with production on the movie finally starting and an official release date assigned to it...we finally get to see if it was actually worth the wait.
But, I digress, Readers; your homework assignment for the day; write in the comment section below which rumor you either believe or hope is true about the Black Adam movie if you’re stoked for it.
Whichever one you choose to share, I’d love to know your thoughts.
