IT: Chapter Two Review (VIDEO SCRIPT)

Today I’ll be reviewing IT Chapter Two, which follows a lot of the beats that you expected.
It takes place 27 years after the events of the last film, as you expected
And Pennywise has healed up and is back to his old tricks, as you expected
So now the Losers Club -- all grown up -- have to get back together in Derry Maine, to finish what they started, once and for all...as you expected
Story
Now while I joke about the premise of IT Chapter Two pretty much being what everyone who read the book and watched the mini-series expected it to be, I gotta say I was really happy with a lot of the creative liberties they made for this portion of the story
Specifically, since I fall into the latter category regarding people’s past exposure to IT, the changes that were made to the love triangle between Bev, Bill and Ben
And giving...the bathroom scene more gravity and meaning.
Don’t...Don’t...don’t ask me which bathroom scene I’m talking about; you know good and damn well which one I’m talking about
They even went on to explain Pennywise’s “origin” in this movie, which those of us who only watched the mini-series didn’t have access to
I mean, not having it in the mini-series didn’t make me wanna read the ACTUAL book, but I’m definitely glad that we get it in THIS format
And you would’ve thought that because they took so many creative liberties that Stephen King wouldn’t want anything to do with the movie
But I was definitely surprised to see him make a cameo in Chapter Two, especially after not seeing him in Chapter One and everything THAT installment shifted around from the book.
Characters
And speaking of the Losers, I first wanna say that everyone did one hell of a job portraying their adult counterparts.
James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain are always a given, and I’m ALWAYS willing to watch anything Isaiah Mustafa is in -- even if it’s a Madea movie
But god damn it, Bill Hader played the FUCK out of Richie, and I loved the changes that were made with his character
And not only does James Ransone’s adult Eddie match the energy and the LITERAL visage of Jack Grazer’s Eddie, but I honestly thought that a lot of how he was handled in this was better than how he was handled in the mini-series
As a matter of fact, I can say that about a LOT of the stuff that was comparable to the mini-series. The only thing I initially had a problem with was how they found a way to reuse 1 character particularly from Chapter One more along the way that they were used in the mini series for Chapter Two
It wasn’t how it was executed that had me tilting my head though, I just wanna make that clear.
It was how they EXPLAINED the characters presence in Chapter Two after the events of Chapter One happened the way that they did in order for said character to better follow his book-slash mini series counterpart that made me feel that the execution was a bit...convenient
(pause) I’m trying not to say “lazy.” Can you tell that I’m trying not to say “lazy?”
Overall
Other than that, when it comes to IT: Chapter Two, color me impressed
I already thought that Chapter One was good, and this was a solid send-off to what I can easily say is my favorite version of the story
Y’know, now that I’m in a better headspace to properly digest horror films.
I’d say it’s worth a full-price ticket if you’re gonna go see it in theaters
As for home video, I’d say I’ll buy the Blu-Ray considering I enjoyed this two-parter, but I know myself, and I know Warner Brothers
Yes, I’d buy a blu-ray of this film. But because I have yet to buy IT Chapter One despite it being good, I just KNOW that Warner Brothers is gonna do either a collectors edition of both films, or just find a way to combine both films into one big 5+ hour extended edition, which will be the copy I will ACTUALLY buy
Can you tell I only own the EXTENDED edition Middle Earth movies? Because I TOTALLY own ONLY the extended edition Middle Earth movies...
