Sketch: new england autumn
Doing something real different this month! Taking a break from all the recurring characters and storylines and gonna work on a standalone piece that'll be a bit different from my other work, with no narrative at all.

Here's a group of slides breaking down my process for painting this scene of Seamus, his girl partner, and Eddie!! Hope you guys enjoy learning about how this one came to be! π₯¬

Some subtle variations on the original here but I think each delivers its own twist on the theme and story!! One of you all suggested a version of the scene without the figures, and I actually really like how that changes the character of the scene. It's much more melancholy and quiet, as Eddie glances into Seamus's empty room in passing, probably lingering a second longer than necessary in front of the door. Hope you guys enjoy these!! Painting process for this bad boy is coming next week π...

Whew! God damn I think this might be the most labor-intensive painting I've made yet - but, I'm really proud of how this one came out. I really hope you guys enjoy it. I know the presence of a female character and heterosexual action is not everybody's cup of tea (in fact, it's not mine!) but this scene is all about the tension and discomfort in the storyline. Plus at least Seamus's thick pipe looks good.

It's late Friday night in the apartment, and Seamus brought someone home who he met at the bar. Eddie hears the noises of everything going down - whatever, it's happened a hundred times before. But as he walks back from the kitchen carrying his mug of tea, he's shocked to find the door open, and Seamus glancing over at him even as he goes full bore. The two make eye contact for a brief instant, before a shocked Eddie continues into his room, to try to sort out everything he's suddenly feeling...
