Let’s just face it, you KNEW I was gonna talk about this
_______
Readers, as you know, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Disney
Didn’t used to be this way, but once I learned about the dangers of corporations and the OTHER version of Monopoly, I as the kids say, got woke real fast
With the warning signs of Disney buying Marvel and Lucasfilm, followed by the HUGE red flag of Disney buying Fox, I knew that they were beginning to get a bit too big
And now with the news about the Spider-Man deal ending early between Marvel and Sony because Disney wanted more money, I jus-I...I just (huffs). GUYS.
At this point, Disney is that partner of yours that’s done something REALLY annoying to piss you off. And their way of apologizing is THIS:
Disney: (Peers from behind the wall) You want something to eat?
Me: (Huffs) Yeah...
In THIS case, “something to eat” are all of the properties we regularly enjoy that Disney just Kirby’d up in their mouth
Properties like the aforementioned Star Wars and Marvel, which both had presences at their D23 convention this past weekend
And while I do wanna talk about the Star Wars side of things eventually, what Marvel Studios had to offer was...a LOT. It was a lot.
Specifically regarding an expansion on the lineup for the streaming service we all say we’re not gonna get but probably are now that it’s officially gonna have a Hulu bundle attached to it, Disney+
The trick is to buy a year’s worth of gift cards with your tax return money. That way you’re not overcome with, y’know...$50 worth of streaming charges per month. You can thank me later.
During 2019’s San Diego Comic Con, we got our first official look at Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 slate, /consisting of 5 theatrically released movies, and 5 exclusive series for Disney+ over the course of two years, in which 4 of those series would be required viewing if you wanted to keep up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe/ Phase 4 - San Diego Comic Con
I mean TECHNICALLY the What If series could count if you take into consideration Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie, but I mean I-It’s whatever.
And then of course there was the announcement of a Blade movie in the works with Mahershala Ali, which probably won’t come to fruition until Phase 5
So when Marvel Studios revealed 3 new Disney+ shows that would play into the MCU on the first day of D23, I just immediately assumed that they were for Phase 5 because Phase 4 was filled.
/Especially since when Kevin Feige made the initial announcement of Phase 4 during San Diego Comic Con of 2019, that the phase was only going to be 2 years long/ Phase 4 - ScreenRant
Nope. Turns out Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 is expanding past the 10 projects they presented at San Diego Comic Con, /with the three new Disney+ shows within it being ones that have been rumored for quite a while now./ Phase 4 Disney Plus
First, there’s She-Hulk, which surprised a lot of people
And that’s mostly because even to this day, proper understanding of the deal between Marvel Studios and Universal Studios regarding Hulk and Hulk accessories is pretty much this gif from Good Luck Charlie
But, it’s actually pretty simple. Marvel has had the movie rights to the Hulk and his related characters ever since Universal failed to make a proper sequel to Ang Lee’s Hulk before 2005
The only rights Universal has to Hulk is the right to first refusal. Which means if Marvel Studios ever made another solo Hulk film, Universal can decide whether or not they want to be the ones to distribute it. If not, then Disney would be the one to do it.
That’s probably the reason why there were Planet Hulk ELEMENTS in Thor Ragnarok as opposed to Marvel Studios just making Planet Hulk; they didn’t wanna risk Universal calling dibs on the distribution (disappointingly stares at camera).
Disney: ...I-I’m about to go to McDonalds, you want anything?
Me: (Huffs with Eyes Closed) 2 McGriddles and some Hash Browns, please...
Personally, my fan casting for Jennifer Walters is Angie Harmon from Rizzoli & Isles, but I’m used to not getting exactly what I want, so I’m looking forward to whoever they choose to play her
Then there was Moon Knight, which made internet shit-posters collectively go out of their FUCKING MINDS
Ever since then, all of the Keanu Reeves fancast posts just...TRIPLED in size like they were the Grinch on Christmas Day
But the most IMPORTANT bit is that now that it’s been confirmed that a Blade movie is in the works, we’ll finally be able to see him square up on Dracula to get his goddamn money!
And then of course there’s Ms. Marvel, which a LOT of people correctly assumed was going to happen after the success of Captain Marvel.
Introducing Kamala Khan would also make this Marvel Studios first actual of introducing Inhumans into the MCU to make up for backing out of the Inhumans movie they originally planned for Phase 3
No. No, we don’t acknowledge Jeph Loeb and Marvel Television’s attempt in this household...
Now right now, there aren’t any release dates in the books for any of these three shows. But the fact that Phase 4 now consists of 5 theatrically released movies and now 8 Disney+ series
Like, they REALLY trying to push this streaming service for Summer Slam, and SUMMER’S ALMOST OVER!
But it also helps that we did get confirmation that Kamala Khan and the rest of the newly added heroes we’ll be getting in this Phase 4 DLC Pack will be seen in the main game
No, no I’m not gonna explain that metaphor. Y-YOU figure it out; use your brain!
Which one am I personally looking forward to out of the three? All of them, honestly. I’m not even trying to appear neutral for maximum Philip DeFranco points; I’m legit excited about all 3 of these bitches.
But I know that most of you in one way or another might be a bit more biased. So your homework assignment for the day is to write in the comment section below which of the 3 newly added Phase 4 Disney+ shows from Marvel Studios you’re looking forward to the most.
