Which Characters are in Ava DuVernay's New Gods? (VIDEO SCRIPT)

Readers, just in case you forgot, Warner Brothers and DC Films are working on a New Gods movie

Not only co-written by comic writer Tom King: aka the man responsible for having Selina Kyle leave Bruce Wayne down the isle -- IT’S FINE, THERE’S CONTEXT NOW! IT WAS BANE; IT WASN’T THEIR FAULT!

But also co-written and directed by Ava DuVernay, who’s known for Selma, A Wrinkle in Time, and the Netflix mini-series “When They See Us,” which - as a black man living in America - I’m still mentally preparing myself to watch.

Now news of this project and of Ava’s involvement originally broke March of 2018, with the announcement of Tom King co-writing it with DuVernay happening May of 2019.

And with them both announcing that they would be getting to work on the script once 2019’s San Diego Comic Con was over -- like, no, seriously...that following MONDAY

A lot of things have transpired since then in regards to who was going to be in the film, and most of them came from DuVernay herself

The first characters in question being back around the time her involvement was initially announced; Mister Miracle and Big Barda

Now it was initially revealed that Big Barda was going to play a role in the New Gods movie a bit before the initial reveal that she would be helping bring the New Gods to the silver screen

/She revealed in an after Christmas 2017 Q&A session on Twitter that Big Barda was her favorite superhero, so easy cast of character speculation is easy./ Ava - Barda

And ever since then leading up to the announcement of Tom King’s involvement, the idea that she and Mister Miracle’s involvement has pretty much been the talk of the town

Hell, if ANYTHING, Tom King’s INVOLVEMENT pretty much SOLIDIFIED that the couple would be in the movie

After all, Tom King, Mitch Gerads and Nick Derington recently won Eisners for their run on the Mister Miracle Comic during Comic Con, so it’s very likely that the love story between the two characters are gonna appear on screen in one way or another

However, while we all definitely assumed it to be the case, we didn’t really get TRUE confirmation that Barda would be in the movie until Ava’s most recent Q&A session on Twitter

/Where she revealed that both Big Barda AND the Female Furies of Apokolips would be in New Gods/ Ava - Furies

Now for those of you who don’t know, the Female Furies are an elite military unit for the planet Apokolips. Big Barda - under years of brainwashing and conditioning - was part of that unit before she broke away and escaped the control of Apokolips

Ava revealing that the Furies will be in the New Gods movie is a pretty big deal. Because not only does it confirm once and for all that Barda will have a pivotal role, but that another fan favorite will ALSO be part of the movie: the Furies trainer/brainwasher and Darkseid’s right hand woman, Granny Goodness

Now while it’s safe to assume it’ll be the first one, we don’t necessarily know which iteration of the Female Furies DuVernay and King are gonna go with

But considering that Barda, the Furies and Granny are all pretty much essentials, its safe to assume that Ava’s tweet means that all of these factors will be playing into the film is a given.

And then of course there’s the fact that in that SAME Q&A session...

/she pretty much let us all know that Darkseid WILL be in the movie./ Ava - Darkseid

And while I’m genuinely happy for everyone who personally needed that closure, I...(laughs) I pretty much got that closure like, a while back...

/Mostly because I tweeted out that I couldn’t wait to see her take on Darkseid once news about the movie began to slow down/

And she responded...with a grateful gif of herself. (happy anxious pause) So I won...

But yeah. Big Barda, Mister Miracle, the Female Furies, Granny Goodness AND Darkseid are pretty much in the bag right now as far as which characters are gonna be in the New Gods movie

So with that being said Readers, your homework assignment for the day: Write in the comment section below which characters YOU want to see in Ava DuVernay’s New Gods.

I’m personally holding out for Forager, but only if it’s Young Justice: Outsiders Forager, because he’s my baby and I want only the best for him
