My Favorite Detective Pikachu Pokémon Designs (VIDEO SCRIPT)

Yes, I’m aware I should have made this video a month ago when it was trending. BUT IN MY DEFENSE, I had a LOT on my plate
_______
Readers, if you’ve been following me on Twitter, then you’ll know that I’ve been anticipating the Detective Pikachu movie for quite some time.
Not only do I really appreciate the fact that they tapped the shoulder of an artist that went viral for making realistic pokemon for design consultation
But even the ones that he DIDN’T work on look REALLY good!
So when Ryan Reynolds released his “Casting Detective Pikachu” video on his channel a while back, and I saw a lot of my favorite Pokemon in it, I knew that I was gonna have to make a Readus Relives talking about them, eventually.
Well, considering that the movie comes out on the 10th, eventually is NOW. So let’s get started!
_______
Psyduck
So, small confession; Psyduck has always been one of my Gen 1 favorites, and it’s 100% due to the anime
It has nothing to do with his stats, his type, or even the fact that he evolves into Golduck. It’s just Misty’s Psyduck was...he was just so great!
So seeing how well he was treated and rendered in this movie just made me smile!
I mean, just look at him! Look at him! He looks so good!
I’d be lying if I said that Psyduck being a main Pokemon in this movie wasn’t my main reason for going, because it sure the fuck is, bitch! On Ra!
Snubbull
To me, Snubbul is the Pokemon universe’s equivalent of an English Bulldog
Which is kinda surprising, because out of all the casual non-Pokemon Trainer peeps I would imagine having a Snubbul, it’s old white women in their 70’s. Because that’s just what it looks like the Pokemon caters to.
I did like the nod to the anime by giving Ken Watanabe a Snubull, because y’know, police dog
And while he’s not necessarily my TOP tier gen 2 pokemon, he’s one that I do have a good amount of respect for, so I’m glad that he looks decent
Squirtle
I’ve always been a Squirtle starter with gen 1, I’m just gonna be real with you.
And the reason why is that it’s a combination of stats and personal aesthetic
Like, not only is Blastoise the strongest final evolution of the gen 1 starters UNTRAINED
/But just look at how hee canonically does rain dance! Just look at him giving praise to Arceus, bitch!/
So as an individual who appreciates Squirtle and his evolutionary progression, I’m very happy with how he turned out in this movie.
/I even appreciate how they added to his cute factor when they did this shot/
Like, they didn’t have to do that, but they did.
Mewtwo
Bitch. BITCH
The moment I saw him burst out of that Pikachu balloon, I literally screamed.
Both because he’s in the movie and because /he just look so fucking good!/
Also, don’t think I didn’t notice that little nod you made to Mewtwo Strikes Back, bitch
/That quick-ass “blink and you’ll miss it” test tube shot?/
I saw it, and I appreciate it
At this point, I don’t care if he’s gonna be used as a good guy or a bad guy; the fact that Mewtwo’s in this and looks so good is just (waves hand) YES.
_______
Now I will say that some honorable mentions will have to be the Bulbasaur and Charmander trees
And there are a lot of pokemon that I’m AWARE of, but because I only really played the first two gens and Sun & Moon, I don’t know enough about them or have fond memories of them for them to have left an impact on me.
/That being said, Pancham and Pangoro also look great, and others from gen 1 that were revealed in previous trailers are also very well done/
So while I may not be all that well versed in pokemon from generations 3 to 7-ish, I’m definitely glad that all of the attention and detail are being put into this movie as far as their designs are concerned.
For everything else, we’ll find out Friday.
