2025-08-28 03:20:21 +0000 UTCI’m confused about this too but what makes the most sense to me is that after Lin Ling’s arc (41AC), when we start E-Soul’s (36AC), that’s actually the furthest point back in the timeline that the story depicts prior to future arcs and everything going forward was advancing towards the first episode. It gets confusing because they show things from other perspectives of the current protagonist so it’s not necessarily being shown linearly but the story is progressing that way. Like going from Queen -> Loli -> Ghostblade -> Johnnies, Queen’s arc (38AC) ends when Big Johnnie transforms at the ruins and she shows up at the end of the arc, but Loli’s arc (39AC) starts before those events, and leads into Ghostblade’s (Also 39AC) which is concurrent with it/progresses forward past it, and ends with Johnnie’s (39AC too) which eventually ties it all together back into the end of Queen’s arc. It also gets muddy when they do flashbacks WITHIN individual stories. For example both Queen and Cyan arcs have parts that take place near E-Soul(Yang Cheng’s) start (20AC when he’s saved by E-Soul, but E-Soul is killed at 36AC). So (23AC-36AC) happens in parts of Cyan’s and Queen’s arc, like Plane Crash incident and Queen graduation. IF E-Soul appeared during any of those times then it was old E-Soul but I can’t remember if he was shown. So yes, generally speaking, EVERY time E-Soul is shown for the majority of the series is 100% Yang Cheng, assuming obviously that was him who defeated E-Soul and not the other way around. We are currently in 40AC in this arc and after will most likely be at 42AC for the last two episodes, as that’s when the 21st Heroes Tournament is said to take place.

E-soul's timeline, however, I'm a little more confused about. Should I just assume all of his appearances since his / their spotlight eps are Yang Cheng, or is Yang Cheng on par with Lin Ling as far as not making a reappearance until later? I'm pretty sure that was Yang Cheng (New E-soul)'s friend dead in the street though. Shang I think? The CEO is his dad and that's why they did the abrupt hard cut.
