Maomao being kidnapped definitely didn’t seem planned so I don’t how much this is a plan to expose the Fox Village. I do think Shisui likes Maomao and gave her hairpin for a reason. But unsure if it was to get Maomao to expose something because of how volatile her mother seems. I doubt she would want Maomao to be in her line of sight.

The way how they keep the story cooking is phenomenal. Literally on the edge of my sit trying not to miss anything.

Taihou, who Roshi & Sheera think is Suirei's mother, was not a concubine but a consort's servant girl (Shenmei's specifically). She was ~10-years-old and she said that the previous emperor was the father of her baby, but the pregnancy was blamed on a doctor who got banished along with the baby. We also need to remember that Taihou's child was born during the previous emperor's time. If Suirei was the daughter, that would make her closer to her 40s/similar in age to the current emperor.

2025-05-27 13:59:40 +0000 UTCThe only thing that gets me about the mask painting thing is (disclaimer that I do recognize this is probably a visual aid for the audience)...red-green colorblind people see red and green as the same murky shade of brown. That doesn't mean that coincidentally all of the colorblind people would somehow grab green when everyone else is presumably painting with the same red paint? Unless they're implying that they put a whole palette of colors out and some of them accidentally grabbed green, but damn, just use your neighbor's paint lol. Also given the general popularity / standard of red paint with fox masks I'd assume they'd have more red set out in the first place just based on demand alone. But something something it's not that deep, etc. (Also it's wild that they collectively wear red for this event but no one has bits of green in their outfit, unless they specifically only make red and blue sets for gender differentiation.)
