Middle Grade Graphic Novel!!

Hey all! I am so pleased to announce that I am in conversation with Scholastic to start working on a middle grade graphic novel! This is in the very early stages (like I haven’t even made a proposal) BUT I am SO BEYOND EXCITED!!! 😱💖✨🎉

I have been deep diving into my not so great middle grade years (12-14 yrs old) looking for inspiration. I plan on focusing the book on my struggles with an eating disorder, depression, anxiety, bullying, neglect and divorce.

Saturday Thoughts

When I struggle to show self-compassion, I remind myself that my partner, Carson, has told me I’m his greatest treasure. I value Carson enough to want to treat someone he loves with respect. So I try to show self compassion, if not because I “deserve” it but because my partner does. Not sure if that makes sense, but that’s what I tried to capture in this comic.

Oh boy! Well we had our final day in Dublin followed by an adventurous first day in Amsterdam! What a beautiful, eventful city! Our Airbnb was right smack dab in the center of the red light district, and things were popping until 4:00am both nights we were there.

Coming Home (Finally!)

Hey friends! It’s been a while! We were stuck in Ireland for an extra 5 days due to the London Heathrow airport fire. I’ve pretty much reached the end of comics I want to redraw. There were so many comics I chose not to remake for various reasons. A lot of booze-themed comics that don’t apply to my sober life anymore 😂 It’s been a fun journey! Thanks for joining me! ❤️

I love the “triple threat” comic. It’s something my red headed mama used to say growing up and I always found it funny.

Lovey Dovey Redraws 🥰❤️✨

Loved redrawing these two cheesy comics. The ‘staring at Carson’ comic is from 2018 but that second comic (couples who are best friends) is from 2015. It’s one of the first comics I drew of Carson!

I changed the language in that 2015 comic from “derp” to “bloop” because ‘derp’ is considered ableist language towards people with Down syndrome. The more you know! I just made up the word ‘bloop’ and I like it more! ✨

A personal favorite is that doodle of Nicolas Cage in the movie “Drive Angry” (a 2011 movie with Amber Heard). WILD. 😂 A total blast of a movie if you enjoy cheesy action and Nicolas Cage.

I didn’t feel any of these comics or drawings were good enough to share on their own, so I thought a comic dump was in order. I’m very critical of my own art. But, I’m working on it!

Also the lighthouse behind mermaid Carson is Heceta Head Lighthouse on the Oregon coast, USA. We drove past it a lot visiting the beach as a kid and I have fond memories of it. This mermaid design is the beginning of a tattoo I plan to get 😉💖

A Few Redraws

A couple of redrawn comics from this weekend. I see a trend where I prefer to simplify the updated comics, I think the changes I made make them easier to read.

This process of redrawing old comics is something I did a lot when I wrote my book “Why Are You Like This?”. I really enjoy the process of drawing over old comics, it’s relaxing ❤️ Hope your weekend was okay and that this coming week treats you well!
