Jinshi was careful not to eat any of those “ invigorating” foods, but the boy has been taking hormones suppressant for at least a year to do his whole eunuch act. As of the last scene of the last episode he’s not longer taking them and just got an adrenaline spike from running for his life. He’s a little hormonally unbalanced right now.

2025-03-27 01:27:38 +0000 UTCIt’s also why Jinshi brought Maomao along, not to do anything inappropriate, but as a pretty (notice she’s not wearing her feckles) young woman serving directly under Jinshi her presence in it self is a deterrent, she’s also immune to Jinshi’s looks and isn’t effected by stimulant based aphrodisiac so she won’t be trying to jump him either. Where he miscalculated was that Maomao is the thought termination queen and hasn’t worked out that he isn’t a eunuch so that missing data point is messing with her ability to read several situations properly.

Most people would look at you funny if you suggested that snake was edible, let alone turtle. And the properties of that meat are pretty esoteric.

Most likely, there was a lady waiting to sneak into Jinshi’s room to set up a fait accompli so her family could push for a marriage. Which is why he decided to sleep in Basen’s room and pretend that he didn’t notice. That part is important, cause even if it was just aphrodisiacs, spiking the Imperial Brother’s like this will likely have serious consequences.

So it was doubly potent. My guess is that there was a lady waiting to sneak into Jinshi’s room after dinner so Lord Shishou’s family can arrange for a fait accompli and push a marriage with him. Which is why Jinshi went to sleep in Basen’s room, not his own.

But apparently since Jinshi is undercover and looks more mature for his age, they had him lie about his age to others to not be found out and I think to others he’s suppose to be 3 or 4 years older to Maomao

Kind of also hinting that he is not in fact a eunuch.

You're right. They just has atleast had her say what the soft shell does. Then it would be more obvious because this is the 3rd reaction I've watched and nobody knows what happened to Basen and why Jinshi couldn't eat the food.
