I see that Pandora was the catalyst for quite a few of the events that are currently happening. Edit: Though to be fair, they probably forgot who Pandora even was. I forgot its been a hot minute since season 2

2025-03-19 04:31:09 +0000 UTCAt least the Cult isn't gonna be a problem that much after this, given that 2 out of the 5 Archbishops have gotten the clap now in Priestella. Which only leaves Sirius & Capella as the sole living Archbishops (since Sirius must have been taken away by the flow of water for a reason, instead of getting clapped permanently, so we can presume she's alive cuz anime tropes n shieet) rn, not counting Pandora who is technically not part of the cult AFAIK (but probably was the one who propped it up originally, based on how much influence she does seem to have on the Archbishops etc? At least based on the flashback we saw of her 100 years ago last season). So rly the only problem is realistically gonna be Capella, as the SMARTEST of the Archbishops overall, unlike the others who are basically varying levels of smoothbrain. Now that they got the most annoying power user out of the way, Reinhard could easily solo all the other Archbishops, so Gluttony should be next easiest clap still left, w/ Capella probably being the mid-game boss after which the end-game boss is likely gonna be Pandora, obviously

2025-03-17 05:17:34 +0000 UTCThe Divine Protection of Sword Saint maxes out your INHERENT POTENTIAL for swordsmanship artificially. This is why not all Sword Saints are equal, because of the sheer gap between each person's natural potential for swordmanship. You can clearly see it w/ how busted Reinhard is compared to Theresia. Reinhard is basically the only Sword Saint since Reid (the 1st Sword Saint, from whose lineage the DP picks the best vessel) to be as busted as that. Honestly while Reid most likely assblasts Reinhard in pure technique, they are a pretty 50/50 as to who wins because of Reinhard having sugar daddy Od Laguna giving him practically unlimited Divine Protections, when most have 1, and even Theresia only had 2 because of her inherent Divine Protection of Reaper, and the Sword Saint DP that she got picked for by Od Laguna later down the line vs birth

And because of that, it always results in "oh I didn't catch that" and thankfully Roshi and Sheera are there to pay attention. Oh well, it is what it is, not a big deal I'm sure they both don't mind that, also my opinion is just subjective anyways lol

2025-03-14 23:15:17 +0000 UTCfirstly while reinhard could kill all of them, theyre not easy to kill so it would take a lot of time and the royal family probably doesnt want reinhard out of the kingdom since hes their strongest protection. secondly theyre also not easy to find and thats also time consuming my point is yes he theoratically can search and kill them but as soon hes not in the kingdom of lugnica anymore theyre pretty much fodder for any major threat

2025-03-13 15:37:10 +0000 UTCNope, they didn't skip any. The series isn't just about him dying. The whole point of season 2 was the fact that him using it so much leans towards him not loving himself or not seeing the importance in his life. So while it still is and will be a factor moving forward, that is not the entire premise of his character anymore.

2025-03-13 14:24:24 +0000 UTCThat’s not a sword saint thing, sword saint only gives u that singular blessing Reinhard is just a completely different creature all together, where he can grant himself any ability he likes, his blessing is wishing for blessings, which is why he’s blamed for being the next sword saint his family blames him because they think he wished for the sword saint powers, but there are specific powers that can only exist once so if he were to want some power like the death god or sword saint it will rip the power off from the previous wielder, the reality is the sword saint powers went to Reinhard by its own accord not because of Reinhard

2025-03-13 06:49:19 +0000 UTCAccording to Wilhelm, the reason the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint was transferred to Reinhard at such a bad time is because Wilhelm convinced her to abandon the sword, and that made the god that gave her the divine protection angry. That's just him speculating and finding a way to blame himself for her death though, so it really could just be random. Oh yeah, and that's from earlier in the anime; I haven't read the books.
Chase Daly
2025-03-13 06:42:02 +0000 UTCYeah, I also thought at first that Wilhelm was fighting a version of Theresia that was the same age as when they met, but apparently she just aged really well for almost 50!
Chase Daly
2025-03-13 06:32:22 +0000 UTCI always assumed she had been killed by the white whale but not consumed by it, and she wouldn't be the other one as you can see by the dead and injured soldiers around her. I don't remember if they ever established in the anime the fact that her body was never returned home, but if they had, then not having her existence erased probably would've been a clue that something else had happened.

Chase Daly
2025-03-13 06:09:56 +0000 UTCExplanation time! Fiest Theresia had the divine protection of the sword saint (bestowed by the sword god) Amd the divine protection of the death god. The sword saint is automatically granted the best sword abilities of anyone in the world. It is heavily implied in the novels that the sword god and death god really liked Theresia for some unknown reason and bestowed that combo of blessing to her homage her a real problem on the battlefield. She did not like this at all so when she get beaten by Wilhelm and willingly puts down the sword she kinda spit in the face of the sword God. So when she goes to fight the whale after being so against her blessing it is heavily implied that the sword god took their revenge by taking her blessing and giving it to reinhard when she needed it most.

2025-03-13 02:47:16 +0000 UTCAs for when divine protections are granted. All I gathered from this is Pandora knew when Theresia's protection would transfer.
Vilicity
2025-03-13 02:39:45 +0000 UTCThere is, in fact, a will behind why the Divine Protection transfers when it does, but we are not given a clear answer as to why it chooses as it does. In the novel, the will behind the Sword Saint DP is termed as the Sword God, and Theresia could actually hear it calling her to take up her sword throughout the entire time she was refusing to fight. The episode loosely adapts this by showing her dead Uncle say the same thing, but it's not 1:1. But here's the kicker, when she finally gives in and takes up her sword, the Sword God laughs, almost mockingly at that. Now while that isn't much to go on, it does give somewhat of an impression of the personality behind the transfer of the Divine Protection. What kind of being would choose the next generation Sword Saint to be someone who has no love for fighting whatsoever, who would agonize over needing to fight others, knowing that her Divine Protection of the Death God would ensure their wounds would never close, consigning them to an inevitable and slow death? To me, it sounds like an entity that takes some sort of cruel enjoyment from watching people struggle. So then, why would the Divine Protection transfer at such a crucial moment, and in such a way that it would drive a rift so deep into the Astrea family that it remains broken for 15 years? The Sword God's own twisted sense of enjoyment may be the answer. Now that's just speculation and a clear answer isn't given as to why it happened, but with the scenario we've been given, there are actually three possibilities as to why it transferred then: 1. First is the one I just laid out, and the Sword God is toying with the lives of this family for their own enjoyment. 2. The second has to do Reinhard himself. We were shown in the last episode of Cour 1 that Reinhard was able to effectively download a new Divine Protection in order to identify whether Liliana had a Divine Protection or not. The second possibility then follows that Reinhard at 5 years old may have unintentionally desired and received the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint. 3. And third is to do with the new information we learned that Pandora was present at the Whale Subjugation. As we saw in season 2, Pandora's authority allows her to essentially speak things/events into existence. And so, the third option is that Pandora may have used her authority to forcibly remove the Divine Protection from Theresia for whatever reason. I'm sure there could be some other reason, but these are the big three I tend to lean towards when it comes to what we know.
Cancel
2025-03-13 02:35:14 +0000 UTC16:35 they already said in an earlier episode that it had transferred to Reinhardt before she attacked the white whale and that’s why willhelm held him responsible for her death for all those years. Y’all must’ve forgotten that because it happened a while ago

2025-03-13 02:27:07 +0000 UTCWriting actually went crazy bc even in season 1 when Wilhelm was recalling his wife who "died" in the battle with the white whale, i was always assuming she was alive bc the authority was meant to have removed that person from ever "existing". A reanimated corpse isn't alive so the reveal that it was actually Pandora that had killed her and not the whale is ridiculous. As to what Pandora's goal is i have no idea, she has rewritten history to her will before so it's interesting she didn't attempt to do that to obtain the sword saint protection.
Taiwo Aileru
2025-03-13 02:25:57 +0000 UTCThe real divine protection was the fact that Reinhard stayed so nice after being ostracized like that by many. He really has Thorfinn's "I got no enemies" attitude because most ppl, with his power, wouldve probably killed ppl out of pure frustration of how they treated him. Reinhard was a true hero through and through.

2025-03-13 00:26:20 +0000 UTCImo each season has different strengths and it heavly depends on what you personally prefer which season you consider to be the best/weakest. Season 1 was fast paced and rly chaotic at points but rly hooks you and is rly good at establishing character dynamics and return by death. Season 2 is way way slower paced and a real 180 with the focus on character development and establishing alot more lore. But i totally get why people would consider it the weakest season. It was rly slow at some points and the animation was pretty bad (covid did his part). Season 3 is the perfect balance and thats why its the best so far imo. Good pacing, good animation, great characters and many payoff moments from the character development in season 2. I rly adore this season and white fox is doing a great job. My personal ranking would be S3,S2,S1 but i think it does not rly matter because every season has its strengths and weaknesses but are overall great.

2025-03-12 23:21:07 +0000 UTCThat guy here again to yap. Non-spoiler elaborations and explanations below, feel free to click "Read more" if you want your screen to be full! Edit: Goddamn I really did yap😭 if you're really interested in a synopsis of their story though, give it a read lol. The Astrea Family Background: The Astrea Family is a lineage that holds ancestry with the first Sword Saint, Reid Astrea. They are very politically involved within Lugunica and hold high status within nobility, though their most important quality is their generational infatuation with the sword, as well as the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint that gets passed down only through their family. I believe its one of the only divine protections (if not, the only one) in Re:zero to be "passed down." Something that wasn't mentioned in the anime is the existence of a "Sword God," who is a battle hungry entity focused on pure strength and has a bit of a twisted sense of humor. The astrea family and characters that idolize strength know/believe in the god, and it's presumed that the god has a hand to play in the passing of the divine protection. This is different from how every other divine protection is gifted. The episode: This chapter was exceptionally long and could not be completely adapted in the slightest with how much time WF had lmao. Not only that, but the spin off Roshi wants does exist in the form of three EX novel volumes the author wrote on The life of Wilhelm and Theresia. Compared to Garfiels fight with Kurgan, this one was cleaner. They used swords, and they were both masters with swordsmanship. any cut would be a vital one, and it was a much less satisfying fight. It was sad to watch, and when reinhard popped in, even more so. The entire episode was meant to feel unsatisfying, as if to illustrate that strength alone isn't what's most important in this fight. Demihuman War: in the side story, it details the events of the Demihuman war that W in GREAT detail, but that has far too many for even me to write. The main point is that, Wilhelm was initially a boy with nothing important in his life apart from his sword, and strength. He only ever thought about killing with his blade, and becoming one with it. He was regarded as the "Sword demon" for how ruthless he was during one of the major battles where his entire side got wiped out, as well as how nonchalant and somewhat excited he was about killing demihuman soldiers, even though he was the last lugunica army member left alive on the field (save for Grimm, my beloved). Then, he met Theresia. She was sitting in a flower field by the area where that battle occurred, and Wilhelm, who didn't know she was the sword saint, found it odd that a woman as fragile looking as her was sitting and planting flowers so elegantly. Theresia Van Astrea: Theresia had been bestowed two divine protections: the protection of the Sword Saint, and the protection of the Death God (aka, Divine Protection of the Reaper) making it so she was already extremely talented with the sword as well as making any wound she causes fatal if left to bleed while near her. This made living extremely hard, as accidentally cutting someone could ruin their life. It was a cruel life for a pacifist, but her siblings were kind. They fought in her stead until they couldn't anymore, but to Theresia, it felt like she was simply watching her brothers die and doing nothing about it. So once the war got really bad, she stepped up, tossing aside the things she wanted for herself, believing that she should just be what the people want, not what she wants. Wilhelm Trias: Wilhelm was in love with the sword since he was a child, although he didn't understand "love" yet. He trained for years until a fight with his family made him run away to be a knight for Lugunica at probably the worst possible time. That being said, he excelled, and became one of the most valuable fighters in the ranks against the demihumans. However, due to just how terrible he was with words, he never grew close to people, or had friends. He pushed people away and had done everything by himself because it was easier to become the sword when he had nothing else to think about. But ironically, that was what stopped him from getting stronger. Wilhelm and Theresia: Wilhelm hated flowers, because they were weak, and Theresia liked flowers because they were delicate, and peaceful. Wilhelm was the Sword Demon, and Theresia was the Sword Saint. He didn't love the sword, he was the sword. Through hard work, he embodied everything the sword was. And yet, Theresia was stronger all because of a power randomly bestowed on her as some twisted joke by the Sword God. The war got really terrible very quickly, and she was forced to pick up the sword after watching family die over and over in order to protect, when all she wanted to do was watch flowers bloom. Wilhelm vowed to take the sword from her once he learned of this, claiming she had no respect for the hard work it takes to master the sword. And to do so, Wilhelm had to first confront himself. Theresia taught Wilhelm about love, and that it was the key to everything. It gave him someone to fight for, and even live for, in a time where he began to think that without the sword, he was nothing. That was how he was able to grow stronger, beat Theresia, and take the sword from her. The Princess and the White Whale: It was briefly mentioned a couple times in the arc, but there was a scandal where a princess from the royal family was kidnapped and a search party had to be sent out to locate and retrieve her. This was at the same, inconvenient time as the White Whale's appearance. And woah, would you look at that a certain presumed space-time manipulator shows up. Interesting. Heinkel Astrea: Heinkel had probably one of the most unfortunate lives in the story. He never received the "Van" part in his name because he wasn't a very "established" member of the family. That is to say, he wasn't considered "important" to the greater Astrea family. His wife got stricken with a disease that left her bedridden (the disease was similar to the effects of the Gluttony coma, though not exactly the same in causation) after the birth of their child, Reinhard. He abused the doctor who would check up on his wife, and when the doctor died to a third party, he felt so guilty he started drinking profusely. Reinhard grew up uneducated and missing that love a father should give their child. When asked to fight against the White Whale, he declined out of fear, leading to Theresia fighting it, and that ended how it did. Wilhelm got upset at Heinkel for leaving the job to Theresia and went on to get upset at Reinhard for taking the divine protection from her. This is what caused the gap to grow between the family. Three idiots who suck at love: Having never been good with words, Wilhelm was full of frustration and confusion on what to do and what he should've done. Never what to say to his son, who lost his mother, or to his grandson, who had no love from his father and no part to play in this ballad. Wilhelm went on to work for Crusch, after this. Heinkel hates the sword, which is uncharacteristic of an astrea family member, as it has never done anything good for him. He split from the family as well, and became looked down upon by the greater Astrea family and the nobles of Lugunica. Reinhard grew up not knowing the love of a mother or the support of a father, so he lives in accordance to what the nation expects of him. He became a tool for Lugunica, and finds refuge within the few people who know him for more than his strength, such as Subaru, Ferris, Julius, and Felt. Theresia's Final Death: Theresia lived exactly how she died- with a love for love. She hated hate, and murder, and even strength to a degree. She found weakness admirable, and it becomes obvious that the other three of her family don't understand that quite yet. They don't understand that the only way to solve this feud between them isn't through the sword, although it definitely helped lay Theresia to rest, but through love. What Re:zero is all about: In this episode, the action is depressing. You're watching two people who love each other fight, and as it goes on you only see people who don't understand each other fighting verbally. All the prior history stressed the ties between the three idiots. Wilhelm wanted to lay her to rest because it'd bring him closure. Reinhard wanted to kill her because she was an enemy, and it was what was expected of him. Heinkel wanted her alive in the end, because it was all he had left. Theresia believes that now, due to her passing in front of them, they can begin to heal. All she could do was hope that these three idiots who only understood the strength of the sword would soon come to understand the strength of love, because it was the only thing that could bring them closure. That's what Re:zero is all about, after all. Said it in the last episode of season 1's title, too. Its not about strength or power or even suffering and growth. At its core, it's about Love. Natsuki Subaru: You're probably like, "What the hell does Subaru have to do with this situation?" and yeah fair, but he really has to do with how he attempted to resolve the conflict in the beginning of the arc. Subaru's particularly charismatic, though not because of smarts. Its just who he is. Like Theresia, he understands how strong love can be much better than the three idiots who only understand strength. He knows the power of words, and patience, because he learned it in his journey. Without knowing *anything* about them, he believed that Wilhelm and Reinhard would be able to get along better if they simply tried talking together. He believed that all they needed was a gentle push on both of their backs, and for a bit, they could even share a meal happily. That scene was important not only for Subaru's characterization, but also for Wilhelm's. The words Subaru said meant a lot to Wilhelm, because that idea of strength through weakness is what he fell in love with. Subaru's initial idea may not have worked due to his naivety regarding the magnitude of the situation, but it's what Theresia would've wanted of them: to love each other just as they love her. Edit: Some things I left out, not because I wanted to, but because Astrea Family lore is very deep. And quite frankly I realized how much i forgot some stuff while writing this😭

2025-03-12 23:13:43 +0000 UTCAnime-only here. While I greatly dislike how Heinkel treats both Wilhelm and Reinhard, I think it's easy for viewers to not really think about the fact that Wilhelm — in his grief with no one to direct his anger/sadness towards properly — was the one who first accused Reinhard of killing Theresia. I believe it was because Wilhelm did this (and maybe harped on it for a long period of time, maybe for years) that Heinkel adopted that twisted view of Reinhard. After all, Wilhelm didn't just lose his wife, Heinkel lost his mother. If we think about how Wilhelm appears estranged from the Astrea family, it's probably safe to say that Wilhelm became an absent father to Heinkel. Wilhelm probably left his family to avenge Theresia, and also was so focused on his revenge that he probably didn't connect with the family very much or ever since. Heinkel not only lost his mom, but now his dad wasn't trying to keep the family together. That's not to say I forgive or excuse Heinkel's ways of acting, but it's clear from Wilhelm's difficulty talking about such emotional things that he never genuinely apologized to Reinhard nor had a real heart-to-heart with Heinkel about how blaming Reinhard is inaccurate and wrong. As far as I know, Reinhard never asked for the Sword Saint's blessing, nor had any control over when it would be passed onto him, so it literally isn't Reinhard's fault in any meaningful capacity.

2025-03-12 22:31:41 +0000 UTCthis episode sheds more light on why despite being so powerful, Reinhard is incredibly humble. In reality, Reinhard has a very low self esteem because: - when he got his blessing, his family (including his grandfather) blamed him for killing the previous sword saint - the previous sword saint, his grandmother, was hailed as a hero for putting an end to the greatest civil war the country has ever seen (and every sword saint before that probably did some crazy stuff so Reinhard must feel ineadequate) - under his tenure as sword saint, the entire royal family died (why they're having a royal selection in the first place). not his fault but still reflects poorly. probably why he's so devoted to Felt. it's like a way to redeem himself

2025-03-12 22:25:13 +0000 UTCThe Divine Protection of the Sword Saint, is a hereditary Divine protection only in the Van astrea family, it brings out the user's maximum martial skill, particularly in swordsmanship, and allows them to see "white lines" revealing optimal counter-moves and attack paths. Only 1 person can wield the protection at a time and whoever wields it can use the Dragon sword hence why Theresia couldn't unsheath it when she was confronted by Pandora as she had just lost it prior. The divine protection moves Randomly there's no condition for it's movement confirmed yet Theresia just was extremely unlucky it transferred to Reinhardt in that moment. Something to note Reinhard got the protection Age 5 and Therisia age 12 which probs goes to show how much of a problem Reinhardt is as the protection chose him at such a young age.

2025-03-12 22:07:48 +0000 UTCTheresia Van Astrea. The reason she was so hesitant to pick up her sword is because of the Divine Protection Of The Death God we saw her use on Wilhelm. The Divine Protection makes it so any wound Theresia inflicts on someone can never truly be healed. And if that person ever comes close to her, the wound will re-open. Theresia didn't want to wield the blade both because she didn't want to trample over her brother's drive and because she didn't like hurting others. Wilhelm eventually took her sword from her after he saw how she despised wielding it. They had a Heinkel who married a woman named Louanna. They eventually had Reinhard. Something the anime unfortunately cut out is that Louanna fell asleep a year or so after Reinhard was born and has been asleep ever since. Because of that, Heinkel's personality began to sour. Wilhelm tried to stop Theresia from picking up the Sword but she couldn't avoid it anymore. A Royal Princess was kidnapped so Wilhelm had to search for her. And because of that, Theresia had to go into battle. She lost the Divine Protection Of The Sword Saint because it passed to Reinhard. And then she met Pandora. The Witch Of Vanity who ruined Emilia's life. Wilhelm and Heinkel both said that Reinhard was the reason Theresia died. They blamed him for a very long time. Heinkel didn't hear the explanation of the reanimated soldiers. He was just walking through the streets and saw his dad fighting a younger version of his mom. All hope seemed lost until Reinhard showed up. I like how the beginning of the arc showed that there was a rift between Reinhard and Wilhelm because you expect it to immediately be fixed or at least be fixed by the end of this big battle. You expect all of this happening to bring the family together. But it actually creates a bigger rift. Wilhelm partially understands what Reinhard did but still puts distance between him. He addresses him as the Sword Saint, not as his grandson. Heinkel is left an emotional wreck because he can't fathom anything that just happened. And Reinhard is left to continue his duty in isolation as a hero. He knew that if he didn't intervene, his father and grandfather would likely lose their lives. But Wilhelm and Heinkel couldn't accept the way Reinhard fulfilled his role so coldly. As Puck said, a hero is all he can be.

2025-03-12 21:48:41 +0000 UTCI think Heinkel beef with his own son, is because Reinhard took indirect the lifes of the two most closest women. Heinkels wife died after the birth and his mother also died, because Reinhard received the divine blessing in the worst time possible.
