Re:Zero 3x13

had to run it back!!

Comments

Yeah, the animation in this episode was something else

Gabriel Souza

eh. everyone always says that kinda thing about the anime though. sure, don't expect a lot, but let's not do the whole "nothing will top s1" thing again with s3. not saying it feels like it here, but there's too much doomerism in the community imo

Orendi

Vincent Chansard is a literally GOAT walking around blessing animation studios.

Justin

Garfiel hit him with that Dick Grayson Robin double knee drop

Joshua Hoerner

Im not complaining but they cut a good little chunk of this fight out. My n^🥷🏾a Garfield was getting his shit thoroughly mixed in the LN 😂. Shit was brutal. They did it justice though.

Doughboy 1027

I fucking knew it! Reminded me too much of his style

WillGlacier

WHO PUT BUDGET IN MY RE:ZERO?! THAT FIGHT WAS HEATTTT

WillGlacier

If you’re confused with some things: there’s the ReZero halftime show (chibi animations that has content that happens at the same time or is figured out at the same time during the story)

Gur

I don't think Roshi watches OP anymore

charlie

They’ve seen him cook on Jjk multiple times and I’m assuming one piece

graves

Ladies and gentlemen that was Vincent chansard on his off season 😂🔥🔥🔥 the ONEPIECE GOAT. He kills it with his sequences in any anime

Yamin Aqeeli

Hit him with that Robin special😂

Malachi Way

I've read one of the theories about Al, and based on the close up of his eye we got a couple episodes back + his mannerisms this episode, I think I believe it. Won't say what it is here in case people consider it "spoilers" but it's definitely an interesting one.

Theralyst

Im convinced that the wife will have her last words as she dies. Maybe they both die at the same time crying together

Guns

I'm glad you guys put the video on screen for us again when u went back ♥

Pedro Barrera

They've never seen Vincent cook right??

Yungin 2Cold

That CAT

MTV

Garfiel gave him the Robin double knee drop lmaoooooo

aFRo

Did Garfield Iron Fist ult that mf????

Justin Neason

The slavery that had to happen for the fight to be animated on that level. Dude wasn't even penciled out, they broke out the expensive Crayola for that impact hit.

Isaac

Garfield gets a massive power/healing factor when he’s in direct contact with the earth, I wouldn’t say he’s unkillable but anything besides cutting his head off or ripping out his heart is something he can heal from. They mentioned this last season ? But he also essentially has ‘earth bending’

CocainCowboy

Yall got to see that recent One Piece animation this episode. Vincent Chansard COOKS every time 🔥

it’s okay lupa i got the garfield joke🤣

Josiah Godfrey

youre probably right. forgot about hamil

zILovePelmeni _

it probably wasnt henry. it was most likely hamil, the main AD for season 3. hes worked with vincent on things like boruto. i would say theres still a chance for vincent to come back on re zero. Especially since it seems Whitefox allowed vincent full freedom for his cut

barü

That was some PEAK Re:Zero

Easly_Bash

Good fucking eye and a Nazuna fan??? I wonder if you know that the art director for this season of r0 is the same art director for Cotn, my glorious queen, Sagawa-san🫶🫶🫶

Orendi

Funny thing is garf is not at all the offensive type. its why he uses shields, and is typically always in a position where he's defending something. "Wall of the sanctuary" and "The Shield of the Emilia Camp". I can definitely get why you'd think he'd take them especially with the directing of the episode and focus on his weapons

Orendi

You're sorta right, actually. calling it earth bending is funny as fuck since this is the one time it's not earth magic, and is literally earth bending😭 his divine protection let's him manipulate the earth around him so long as his feet are touching the ground. he also has a pretty damn strong healing factor cuz of it iirc. but the main thing that made him stronger was his own willingness to be flexible and change his fighting style. he realized brute force wouldn't work with his first fight, so he opted for speed instead, and used every opening and ability he had at his disposal, which ended with garf's limbs breaking and a big fucking chomp shaped hole in kurgan's neck. at least canonically lol.

Orendi

either some weird vampire powers that hasn't been explained yet in the novel or (and the more likely option considering how extreme garfiel's mental has been since a child lmao) he was simply dealing with the trauma you'd expect a 14 year old with no knowledge of the outside world to have after murdering someone he didn't even know in order to prove to someone he admires (subaru and co) that he's strong and worth something.

Orendi

Non-Spoiler Answers to the questions yall had (click read more if ur down to see some generational yap): GARFIEL VS ELSA: At the start, the vision Garfiel saw of Elsa was simply just PTSD, like you guys thought. When Elsa stabbed him in the vision, it was symbolic of her biting him during their fight. My headcanon is that a Vampires' bite in Re:zero is the purest form of love they are able to express, and it carries on in a haunting manner even after death. Though it could also be the more sensible answer that Garfiel was 14 at the time and was dealing with the complex trauma of murdering someone lol. GLUTTONY: Lye Batenkaitos, The Gluttony archbishop with hair over his eye, doesn't actually "physically" eat anyone, though he does use his sharp teeth to his advantage in his fights. OTTO'S BLESSING OF LANGUAGE: Otto has the divine protection to communicate with animals as equals, and due to his abilities as a merchant can even command/convince them to do things for him if they're more intelligent beings. For example, a water dragon. He didn't explain it to the knight of the WDS because Otto is weak and is thus careful about who he lays out his cards in front of. He's not a JJK character who has the luxury of being able to go around explaining his powers to everyone lol. that being said, he has used his power and explained it quite a number of times for viewers so,, um,, yeah (he even had an episode to himself in season 2 lol). AL'S MAGIC: Al was just using earth magic during his fight with Capella. its been used quite a couple times in the anime, though they don't really ever explain magic suffixes/prefixes- its just something you learn if you care to pay attention to those kinda details. For now, just know The "El" is the lowest offensive magic (with Ul and Al being the stronger prefixes) and "Dona" is the general incantation for Earth magic. Saying "Dona" by itself is effective in creating simple pillars and the like while "El dona" can create a concentrated burst of earth mana that causes an explosion. ABOUT KURGAN: Kurgan has eight arms but uses four cleavers because any more would be more detrimental than anything else to coordination. to be honest I pulled that outta my ass but it seems like the kinda explanation the author would give lmao. what IS true though, is that Kurgan is an honorable man who would wait for Garfiel to get up after being knocked out of his enraged form, cut off the water that was flooding the shelter, and understand that Garfiel changed within the fight, and now that he knew what he was fighting for, would be stronger. Thus, Kurgan brought the heat. GARFIEL VS KURGAN: During the final fight, Garfiels bones were the ones breaking. watch the cleaver that's putting pressure on his arm when he lifted to block it. Then, when Garfiel was winded and we were seeing his perspective, he lifts his arm up and kurgan sliced it. So, the only thing Garfiel could think to do at the time was use his divine protection (allows him to manipulate earth within a short distance around him) to give him height and take a good chomp outta kurgan's carotid artery lmao. Not sure why it was omitted from the final scene with Kurgan congratulating Garfiel (especially when they literally animated it), but Garfiel got a final blow on Kurgan's neck where he bit out a large part of it and his shoulder, which was what ended him. Its a trend for Garfiel's W's to end with him biting someone's neck off it seems lol. Kurgan turned to stone and collapsed because he wasn't alive. He was being reanimated by some weird magic the cultists were using, and once that person dies again/ceases to operate, they turn to dust. SHEERA WAS RIGHT: Garfiel didn't fight in his enraged form anymore because he knew brute strength wouldn't work against Kurgan, so he opted for speed and utility, similar to his sister. Instead of fighting like a vanguard would with a greatsword and shield, he fought like an opportunistic thief with a dagger. That kinda meticulousness he'd only learn from Otto and Frederica lol. He knew he needed to change his fighting style, and despite how it looks, he barely won because of it.

Orendi

real talk does elsa have the divine protection of shit talking or is garfiel just schizophrenic

Gregery stunt double

"We're ready to party, we're ready!"

DevilMayCarter

beating the chansard sequence will be hard. as i said its a miracle in the first place that he was on rezero from what ive heard henry thurlow was supposed to direct this ep (he most likely brought vincent to rezero)

zILovePelmeni _

Why?

Jazko

Actually kinda smart when you think about it. He won't need to unarm himself to grab his opponents. He could just hold them down when he slashes them.

NullCallisto

Guess he didn't watch Demon Slayer, you never, ever leave the head talking.

DevilMayCarter

don't worry lupa, i laughed at ur garfield monday joke

Joni

When I saw the fucking crayons I lost it

Damaton

I think the reason Garfield was able to beat Kargan was not just because he was able to get over his inferiority complex when it comes to Elsa, but also because he was able to tap into the powers of the earth now that he's below ground. I don't think he was able to do all that earth bending when he was on the streets of the city, and I think that divine protection also powers him up a little when he's touching earth.

Chase Daly

Lmfao they don’t get to see a lot of Vincent Chansard cuts cause they mostly be in one piece but I love their reactions to how well animated his cuts are

Imari

Upvote this, I love Garf and he can certainty put in work. But this is why Garf says that the win wasn't magnificent because he was struggling against a nerved version.

E

It was Vincent

Shahid Haqq McGee

I wonder if he’s about to finesse those swords unless they turned to dust 😳

Krype

The reason Kurgan disintegrated was because he was resurrected btw. Garfiel didn't tenderize him into dust or anything lol. It may not be super clear, but Garf barely escaped with his life from this fight.

Cancel

Lupa feeling real funny this ep. I laughed, good jokes

Alberto Rodriguez Solano

Kurgan only has 4 swords, but he has 8 arms.

Chase Daly

Nah was Vincent Chansard on this or something cause some of them impact frames were giving some Zoro vs King flashbacks

Sham3ful

We've seen bad guys getting pencil sketched, and last we saw someone get watercolor sketched, but have never once seen someone get crayon sketched!

Chase Daly

they saw in jjks2. but they dont know any names of animators i think

zILovePelmeni _

W animation and W Garfiel!

Ayanda Mpofu

sadly its the first and last time re0 will look this good. its a miracle chansard was on this

zILovePelmeni _

It was garfields bones breaking

Pan Cakes

You guys got most of it right. Garfiel uses the stone pillars to distract/lock kurgan in place. Garfiel takes out one of kurgan's arms from the fight earlier in the episode and takes out his eye. after locking him in place he attacks from the blind spot/arm side. kurgan notices and breaks both of Gar's arms, then Gar launches himself upwards, Kurgan attempts to stop him but can't due to his arm being injured and unable to move (which is why it shows the cut). Garfiel, from the ceiling, launches himself downwards and bites out a part of Kurgan's neck insta killing him. You can see Garfiel spitting out the neck and Kurgan missing a chunk of it (same side of his missing eye and injured arm). Kurgan realizes the strategy Gar used to kill him and respects him.

Gabe

That episode was SOOO RAW animators SNAPPED!!!!! Garfiel was already one of my favorite characters but this episode really did it for me! Let's go GORGEOUS TIGER!!!!! Also, 1:29 Just want Lupa to know I laughed there (Garfield hates Mondays) 😂

Mew Anime

I mean, Vincent is mostly on one piece which they don't react to. Besides JJK and some other anime that he might be apart of, it makes sense that they don't recognize his style.

Stephen Afriyie

The animation popped off so well they had to run it back and see what actually happened 🤣

Nota-kun

Ngl, the way Al talked at 07:59 is kinda too on the nose with the theories of his actual identity. This and other things shown in this season.

Paunescu

So we got (Pencil Sketch DS 2x17), Storyboard Sketch (Solo Leveling 1x11), and the newest addition Crayola drawing. Good shit 😂

_monjiro

Yall aint see Vincent’s work yet oml

Zay C.

So if anyone is wondering I'll help you out a bit. Both of garfs arms got broken after he jumped over him he actually bit out a chuck of his neck it's very brief but you can see it for a few seconds at the pencil sketch part and you can see it when hes standing still. He ended the fight just like he did with Elsa ending his ptsd of thinking he just got lucky and leveled up.

Nikk

It honestly makes me want to go back and rewatch it straight through from season 1 when this season is over

TChang23

btw that amazingly animated cut in that fight was done by vincent chansard hes one of my favorite animators oat he cooks all the time for current one piece its nice to see him on rezero, that type of animation is very common in onepiece I hope vincent does more rezero work

Amvdere

The arms breaking WERE Garfiel’s and he took him out by ripping out a part of his throat it’s hard to see but you can see the bite come during the final impact frames

Bighusky

It’s a fight so nice you gotta watch it twice.

BZD

I literally can't wait for future arcs to get animated, hopefully all of the future season will have this season level animation or better (but like the whole season has been really solid, and this episode was the peak of the whole series)

Just Shinji

W character development with garfield this season

Wrëck

He actually bites his neck you can see it in the pencil sketch for a few seconds

Nikk

The crazy thing is that Kurgan was severely nerfed by being a zombie and not having two of his cleavers(which Wilhelm broke years ago in a duel) so Gar would have unfortunately gotten clapped if he was at full strength

Joshua Perry

I don't blame u man, would've folded immediately to lust if it was me.

Dank Memer

That’s not ridiculous, that’s not ridiculous to say that

Joshua Perry

Ditto. Love her.

grimreapercz

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hasnain Khan

Never in my life did I think I’d see re:zero with this level of animation glad to see this series getting so much love

TChang23

Also Vincent chansard animated the fight one of the greatest animators to do it for real, he well known for animate one piece fights

Fizzy

This episode made Garfield my favourite character in rezero without a doubt

Fizzy

My dude crumbles into the title card. 💀

Tyger Burch

Ok bro get out

Shalt.

She's my favorite out of then all lol

Nikk

I can tell they not used to Vincent Chansards animation style

island_boi32

Bruh she's literally THE most dangerous Archbishop in the Witch Cult because of her intelligence (excepting maybe Pandora, but she's technically not a part of the cult I think, just supporting it from the shadows and probably someone who made it to begin with). Long-term wise I'd be more afraid of her if she gets away like Sirius did (albeit just barely, since she did take that 1 hit that knocked her into the water flow after the fight)

Skebaba

Vincent Chansard really the greatest at this shit man

jayzwrld

The Garfiel fight was animated by Vincent Chansard, popular animator for One Piece and JJK

James Jackson

So glad you guys watched this episode. The fight with Garfield is all over the Place. Oh and one more thing, the final attack that Garfield landed on him Wasn't a knee drop, he bit off Piece of his neck since his arm was shattered.

andrew

I wrote this before starting the episode for a few internet updoots, I unpaused the episode at Lupa IMMEDIATELY made the same joke bro (at 1:23)... fml

_monjiro

Bro had to rewatch the scene

Isotope

Lol, don't worry Lupa. We understood! And it was in fact monday.

Michael Smith

Can't believe they got so fumbled by basic maths. It really tough out here

Ginger Dwarf

Episode musta taken place on a Monday bro, Bros crashout was too insane for it have been any other day.

_monjiro

Want to lick lust’s armpit

Eris Greyrat

I think the bone breaking was BOTH of Garfields arms, so when he jumped at the ceiling, he bolted downwards and tore a chunk out of the guys neck which killed him. Absolutely epic battle.

Symphony

Ngl it was kinda hard to tell but the fight was dope either way 😅. Garfield basically took a big ass chunk out of his neck and killed him

Bautista

Vincent Chansard cinema

Alejandro Pupo

So we have three big fights we cut to in this episode. Otto and the others vs Lye, Al vs Capella, and Garfiel vs Kurgan. The Otto stuff is mostly setup for now. Felt is off to get some kind of item that could potentially hurt even Reinhard, there's a mention of something called Mana Flow and Lye mentions that "Rui" would like the three remaining big fighters now that Felt is gone. Al vs Capella is our first time seeing Al fight(Subaru must be so disappointed that he's missing out on this). Capella seems to insinuate that Al is the one who flooded the city and began taking out the council of ten. Which would actually make sense if you think about it. Back during cour 1, Al mentioned that he was going to go look for Priscilla after he split up with Subaru. But then he disappears for several episodes and pops up again when he talks to Emilia. We have basically no idea what he was doing. But it makes sense why Sirius decided to snatch up Kiritaka when he and Anastasia were alone now. If the Witch's Cult noticed that the council was disappearing, they'd want to keep at least one of the members close by. Capella shows that she can basically figure out a person's taste just by looking at their expressions, body language and everything about them. She did it with Emilia to Subaru, Crusch to Felix, and now Priscilla to Al. We see that no matter what damage is done to her, Capella always seems to regenerate. Dragon's blood is no joke. Even with powerful earth magic and taking her head off, she's still having the time of her life. Al has only response to this. His stars are bad. Lastly we have Garfiel vs Kurgan. Kurgan has constantly been showing signs of life despite him no longer being alive. He holds back against Garfiel. He cuts down the beasts trying to interfere with their battle when he sees Garf hesitate. He seals the hole so no water can get in. He uses all of his strength as respect for Garfiel and even compliments him once he does the finishing blow. Kurgan was a warrior even after death. Garfiel has constantly been feeling down due to what happened with Elsa. His visions of her, Reinhard stopping him with a single blow, allowing Mimi to get injured. With everyone cheering for him, he was finally able to come out on top.
