And the town had been fine for the last 90 days before that. In fact that only craziness going on besides the monsters was that she was she was hearing voices, and not only did she have nothing else to compare that too but it was her brother that told her not to tell anyone else about it. Elgin on the other hand did have knowledge that Sara heard voices and it didn't end well. He was also there through the whole bug thing. He was even a part of it, as the ghost lady tried to drown him in his sleep during it. And yet after all that, he decides to trust a ghost and not tell anyone a thing. Seemingly all because he wanted to play hero.

So you get seasons of wandering and frustrating character writing only for the season finale to come and they decide to finally move the “plot” forward.
