2025-02-04 15:37:45 +0000 UTCIt's actually explained in Season 4 of Castlevania from Isaac, the Night Creatures retain their human souls plucked from Hell with no memory of who they were but clearly from the Bishop making the holy water in Season 2 retain their personal abilities, if they do something they did in life it can bring back their memories. Edouard meeting Annette triggered those for him and taught him to sing again. As for why some are mindless monsters, they probably aren't - you see multiple times this season that the people of Machecoul are fanatical loyalists for Erzsebet while the Night Creatures that rebel were the revolutionaries that Drolta killed along with the pair that were going to Maria's revolutionary meetings. Rebelling against tyranny is what makes them feel human again, what triggers their memories to return. The moment the Captain makes her freedom cry all of them recall who they were and fight back in that moment. Every narrative beat this season was actually given a big degree of depth and thought and none of it was just pulled out of nowhere.

Still it a rush season, like Maria plotline should have been more develop like the speed of her recovering from the dark side it too fast, the monster plot line was so weak like I understand the meaning and the vision of it but it so weak, one thing i really hate is that whenever Edouard sing at least translate for me what the hell bro singing, I am sorry for only speak Vietnamese and English, they didn't even credit the song title and writer, like let me understand his emotion, his eternal conflict. I see lots of potential from this series like this cool easily be JoJo but Castlevania. I know lots of people like this season, it really hype I don't disagree, but it hard for me to not see the narrative choices that could easily be done better.

Erszebet's got some crazy feats, but we only ever saw Dracula when he was starving and depressed in the first series, so I feel like healthy and with all his rage and magic he could probably take her even with Sekhmet's souls.

She may [with an emphasis on ‘may’] have had a thought, a sliver of an inkling, that Erzabet might not be the right vessel, when she made the comment about the last eclipse taking more out of her than the one previous. They never really made it clear why some of the night creatures were straight monsters and acted like we'd expect vs. the ones that retained their personality. It seems like everyone after Eduoard was different and kept their general face and personality, and I was hoping they'd explore that a bit more directly this season. Maybe S3, if it happens. It was one of the most interesting parts of this new show to me.

When he was a human back in season 1 he admitted he had felt weak that he couldn't help slaves and lead like Annette could and last episode it came full circle as he became the leader of his own emancipation movement. This coupled with the nods to slavery like his only form of freedom being in song as it was for many slaves on the plantation. Honestly its a beautiful sub-plot.

Sekmet said something like "I'm not safe while this thing is here" and Annette basically had to promise to hold it at bay as long as she could so Sekmet could use her body. I think that's why she was crying too. Besides her body being taken and used for evil, she knew the creature was coming for her.
