And they did know that he is Korean, they didn't want the off chance of things being mistranslated (both ways) given that google translate isn't the best to have a conversation with. And it isn't just about getting a Korean to talk to him, its about getting someone they are confident can hold their own in case things goes south, hence the need for an S-rank. They had the best characters designs, the best gameplays, the best everything. And then they went bankrupt because nobody played arcades in the West as much anymore and the Neo Geo console was too expensive for casual gamers while other companies like Capcom got a contract with Sony's brand-new Playstation that allowed them to stay in touch with a mainstream audience, and then SNK got bought by fucking Playmore, and now their games look like ass while Capcom can now flex with their overrated games because they got no real competition left. King Of Fighters used to have characters designs so stylish that whenever you looked at their art-books' illustrations it felt like you were looking at a fashion magazine's pages. Shinkiro's illustrations looked so realistic and elegant that it looked like ads for expensive clothing brands. Capcom, on the other hand....apart from a few iconic characters (Chun Li, Sakura, Ibuki, Yun & Yang), most of their characters either wore a gi or walked around half naked...when they didn't simply looked like goofy parodies or unsensitive attempts at cultural representations. Capcom've been reusing the same cheap hobo karategi with half their characters for decades, declining them in different colors like the Power Rangers, and now they're trying real hard to emulate the King Of Fighters vibe by adding urbanites streetwear into their SF6 charadesigns (like they previously already tried with SF3) coupled with semi-realistic martial techniques like KoF used to. But I swear I don't care if SF6 is a pristine game, I will never bow down to Capcom. SNK until the day I die. When learning Mandarin, I was surprised by the many King Of Figthers references I've found in modern Chinese culture. In fact, I was shocked to learn that King Of Fighters is more popular than Street Fighter over there. There literally is a Rapper named K9999 (弹壳), and I've noticed a few KoF references in the 2023 donghua (Chinese word for anime) called "Scissor Seven" as well. China seem to still hold King Of Fighters in high esteem as it had a cultural impact over there. Among all the comics adaptations of the KoF franchise, only 4 were made by Japanese people, all the rest were made by Chinese authors like Andy Seto. Real recognize real, the rest of the World may have forgotten, but the Chineses know that old school SNK is forever the realest.
