This crazy plot twist reminds me of Spec ops: the line, metal gear solid 2 sons of liberty & 3 snake eater, and crackdown. In which the protagonist isn’t the hero but a mere pawn by facebook interests groups or organizations that basically use deceit as well as the protagonist character flaws/issues for their own ends. He was probably unwittingly hired with the manipulation of his ai partner to put down a colony of ex veterans that were like him mining their own business but were considered both a potential uncontrollable threat and a PR embarrassment that needed to be put down by another one of their kind who unlike them is alone and prefer to stay that way and is insecure hurt pride and crazy temper making him easy to manipulate.

The author they commissioned to write it said the show runners basically stripped any identifying details he wrote in, but also slipped in a ton of references to other AC games (the author did not play the games, but the producer/director did).

For context, in AC6 "Old Gen" augmented humans (Gen 1-4) were made possible using a specific energy substance, which also happens to become sentient under the right circumstances. That's what The Voice is. A small number of pilots had compatibility with the voices, others just heard painful noises that were considered a "burning" side effect on the brain. These early gen surgeries had an incredibly low success rate, and the survivors often had psychological damage.

Just because Iron Man couldn’t handle altitude at first doesn’t mean every mechanical suit now can’t. Remember you start your missions outside of the planet in orbit, so they can withstand space.
