It seems like they were given the plant instead of it being their idea. The prequel explains why. You should definitely watch it!

I think it's more likely just foreshadowing that something's wrong with the pregnancy, and she's probably aware that something's been wrong for a while. I can't imagine she'd be able to hide not being pregnant for so long with how many check-ups she must have, unless there's some really dumb twist incoming.

Does it still make them assholes, especially considering they already think their lives are worth more than the peasants'? Absolutely.

A victim of a Type B will reanimate as a monster after death, unlike the victim of a Type A. Type C: The bitten victims of Type B After being bitten, they become very ill with decreasing body temperature until they die. The person will then reanimate as a monster and is capable of turning his victim into a monster as well. Type C and Type B is different only from how they acquire the illness; other than that, both types are indistinguishable from each other.

The time period this takes place in was one filled with poverty strife and famine that were caused or ignored by the ruling class. Which is actually pretty common. During the potato famine, for example the British government only allocated about .5% of their budget across five years to relief efforts for the disaster, and they let over ONE MILLION people die for nothing. The show just adds zombies to the equation. Zombies that were caused by nobles trying to hang on to every little bit of power they could.
