Its definitely not normal... but almost my entire friend group refer to each other by last name. Its not even a weeb thing, we've been doing it since freshman year, and the occasional new friend after HS fell into the pattern too. We even go so far as to add Mr. sometimes.

Yanagi caught onto that pretty quickly which is where the "I won't take them away" came from. This is why Miyamura pulled a Hori and got embarrassed -- he got exposed lol

Let’s say your name is Ben Parker and someone you aren’t close to refers to you as Parker like “hey Parker did you finish ___? Hey Parker have you seen ____”. When that person becomes friends with you, it would be mad weird if they are still referring to you as Parker rather than you name Ben.

I was a STEM major and remember this one advisor that was so mean and nasty, some poor girl went into her office an anxious mess and left crying :( Another time in the library, someone left printouts telling students not to give up/lose hope, bc they got into medschool despite their advisor telling them they wouldn't make it.

2024-10-19 08:13:25 +0000 UTCYes its actually good thing like here in bangladesh we dont have the name thing but we have "tui" "tumi" "apne" these all means "you" if you translate but apne = to elder people (respectfully) tui = close fnds / younger siblings tumi = generally used or used for someone you know a bit more if you tumi to an elderly stranger they are gonna get confused why you are saying that and if say tui to an elderly literally people around you will start looking at you like you wanting to start a fight And we also CAN NOT EVER call someone by their name if they are older than us ...we have to call them "john vaia" which means "mr.john/ brother john" or "uncle john" cause calling an older person only by their name (unless they are a friend or sibling) is directly disrespectful here im pretty sure some other asian countries also has this I dont know why english language doesn't have these since saying "you" to my close ones plus elderly or younger strangers just seems off to me cause you cant really identify the relationship or bond or respect there

For me the show was as good as most of the well known series of the genre like Oregairu, Call of the night etc etc). It didn’t have a hype before its release nor was it headlining during its premiere like,for example, Dandadan or Uzumaki this season, or even Makeine last season. For most parts it went under the radar, probably due to negative apprehension by people about it when they glanced at its name. I mean yeah “too many loosing heroines” seems more interesting concept than “days with my stepsister “ ( stepsister has such negative connotations nowadays in social media). You get what I am saying right😅. Anyways I am glad you weren't unnecessarily passive aggressive in your response , unlike the person above you.

I can understand trying to help temper a student's expectations and working with them to establish good fallbacks but that should be in done in tandem with trying to help said student actually achieve those "aspirational" goals. And yes, it's highly unrealistic of me to think that that happens (especially in some of the US public school systems) but I remember being a absolutely floored when, as a senior in high school many many moons ago, I overheard someone said that the school counselor told them they shouldn't bother to apply to any of the University of California schools because they weren't "good enough" to get in. I was an excellent student on paper and had never even imagined that the very same counselors who seemed to write me off as someone who didn't need their help because I could "get into any school that I wanted" were also so very unhelpful to my classmates who didn't look as good on paper! Ugh.

I work with leaders and often I see stuff like that in the office; people putting others down instead of helping them work on what they can to improve. Hurts twice as much when it's a kid that's being hurt though. What a shitty teacher.

You could come in with some confidence in your grades and skills for your future and leave anxious and crying that you haven't done your best. And most of the time their negativity just stops kids from pursuing higher goals and wanting to settle. I watched this episode when I was applying for unis in my last year of high-school so I was crying along with his sister lol

2024-10-18 15:28:45 +0000 UTCPlease Roshi read this comment from Anon7524: Mentioning this again and probably for the next few episodes going forward since l want to make sure it's seen (yes after this it's practically the exact same message as last EP; yes I saw one person also posted this week earlier asking, but the more comments about it the likelier it is to be seen). Plz after EP 12 of Horimiya go to S2 (EPs1-12) instead of watching EP 13. Ep 13 adapts the legitimate end of the manga, where as S2 takes place for the most part between EPs 11-13, minus the epilogue which is S2 Ep13. That's why it's called the "Horimiya: The Missing Pieces". A lot of other commenters now and I, feel it would be better for reaction content if the ending isn't shown before the second season, as it was only made that way due to uncertainty of continuation for a 2nd cour.
