The art not only elevated the manga a lot but the pacing of things was better. Admittedly some of the spiral ‘gimmicks’ weren’t as interesting as others but the ones that were interesting succeeded in being creepy or at-least interesting body horror.

Only that one kid burned up and exploded which made Kirie and her brother go flying down the stairs. The explosion saved them but they were injured. Her and her brother got put in the hospital but her brother got discharged before her (which is why she is alone in the hospital this ep). They just speed through everything or straight up skip stuff in this anime so it’s hard to understand unless you read the manga.

Because the manga IS way better. Misteries are almost always left unanswered in Junji's stories, but it's the pace that's primarily ruining this adaptation. They tried to cram way too much in just 4 episodes. The scenes jump by so quickly, and without any transitions, that if I hadn't read the manga before, I'd have no idea what I'm looking at half the time.

They left no fucking time for explaining why any of the shit was going on. Most of the different events were entire separate chapters in the manga, sometimes multiple chapters. I'm not gonna fault the writers too much, because it was the studio execs that weren't giving them the adequate time and resources to fully tell the story. And the animators did the best with what they had. I have no idea how they're gonna cram everything else that's supposed to happen into the last episode. Fuck Akatsuki and its execs. I hope their entire production staff quits and finds work at a better studio.

Yeah it sucks. It is borderline unwatchable. The trio reaction is the only thing that motivate me to watch this to the end. And actually the pacing is a real issue, but ig that is secondary to this abyssmal animation quality and it will prolong this horrible mess. I still highly recommend everyone to read the manga though.
