2024-10-16 23:52:55 +0000 UTCThe animation is definitely not the same in ep 2 as in ep 1 and although the first episode just felt like a bunch of events happening too fast, at least the animation was holding it together. Adapting 1 medium into another is super hard to do, especially if the studio who picks it up doesn't want to add more to flesh out things to make it more cohesive. There's been drama with the studio behind the scenes and I think they even wanted to scrap it at one point. I still plan on watching the episodes regardless. I just really want to understand why it's always Junji Ito's works that are never adapted well without there being some weird issue.

Started the episode, paused to look at what the hell I was looking at, then scurried to the comments for answers. Why they had a whole different team do this? Changed a decent show into utter ridiculousness. I might just look at the manga some other time, but this is just too disappointing to continue watching after being shown that it could easily do better with the first episode. The lip sync is honestly very bad, feels like I'm watching speedracer on its dubbed version. I'm generally never trying to be the negative person, but this kind of hurts. It feels worse than the second season of One Punch Man or Tower of God, and it's just the second episode.

Uzumaki is widely regarded as one of Junji Ito's best stories and himself being one of if not the best horror author of all time and this not only wrecks the pacing like the other anime adaptations have but even worse it completely butchers the quality of his art. Quality that the first episode, and the 5 year production time on this anime, promised and now failed to deliver.

However, this episode shows that the complexes can be transferred to other people. Case in point, the lady who was obsessed with Kyrie. The hair spiral was actually that girl's complex - she felt inferior to Kyrie, so she started to obsess over it. Same with the lovers, their parent's complexes transferred over to the children. In the end Kyrie was saved, but it just goes to show how "minding your business" won't work. People make up reasons to hate and be in competition with each other all the time for no particular reason. Meanwhile the kids did...that. No one is safe. And there's 2 more episodes of this madness.

It kept bothering me since episode 1 dropped like how there are only 4 episodes, but now I understand 💀. Bro they crammed everything possible in one episode! The pacing in the first episode is ok with 2 big stories about the father and the classmate. But now they compressed 5 stories: the snail, the jack-in-the-box boy, the hair, the couple and the lighthouse into just one episode. Unlike episode 1 which included most of manga content, this episode skipped many details for the sake of saving budget or something. This is truly sad.

They had years to take their time with this, and it came out looking like they wrote the essay the night before it was due. I wouldn't be surprised if he never lets anyone adapt his work ever again. I just don't understand how studios can put out beautiful shows like Dandadan/Elusive Samurai/Wistoria/Mushoku Tensei, and yet the damn god of Japanese horror manga can't get a single adaptation of his work to look right.
