you know how unique is this ? like to actually breakdown a play which in an anime within another manga adaptaion in the anime and then breaking down the acting parts as well....This is peak writing

Rishad GB

Two starts shining builds up hype but dulls them both as attention is split. It’s a give and take no matter which direction you choose to go.

Spirited Symphony

Akane really said "watashi wa star"

A. P.

She was already losing work as an actress at that time. She realized people only hired her because her name was well known so she snapped angrily in response. She definitely had sadness in the Manga also, but the anime version toned down the anger and focused more on the sorrow aspect

Yoru

and Also, Kana can be Guy who was constant A1 throughout the show but at the end lifted himself even higher to A1+++++ with the Night Guy performance

Manchester United

just remember that she got humbled by Aqua before she met Akane so she definitely had a paradigm shift which kinda made her jaded by that point

Ghost_Dog97

The voice acting really carries the emotion through in the scene but I remember the dialogue being exactly the same, so it may just not have been as obvious to you on first read.

Gilthwixt

Sheera was on point.

Orlandez Malone

Sounds about correct to me from what i remember of the manga her whole thing was her shitty personality as a kid ended with people not wanting to work with her as much as she got older iirc

Deep

Manga readers help me out, because I remembered it as Kana was just shitty to her as a kid. Said basically the same thing, but Kana was mean, not sad. It wasn't until she got older and started losing work that she realized how crappy she had been to people. Or am I remembering it wrong?

Huemon Nottabear

I was initially going to counter your comment, but I thought about it more, and it just really makes me wonder why she thinks there can't be more than one star on a set. It's not like there has to be only ONE person who is really shining.

AutumnOnFire

Love this

Guns

A better Naruto analogy is that Akane wants this to be Gaara vs Rock Lee. Gaara wins expectedly cuz he's a main villain, but everybody remembers Rock Lee's performance despite being a losing side character.

Kuyagram

I think that there’s a time and place for backing off and supporting others like Kana does. But when Akane threw down the gauntlet wasn’t that time or place. She could’ve drove the audience wild by accepting that challenge.

Coatl45

I'm so invested in the play and everyone's performances holy hell. Really looking forward to Aqua's.

HollowedSlayer

Girl’s kinda crazy. Makes her a hell of an actress, though.

Coatl45

Happy late Bday Sheera! It’s my bday today now (15th) so we’re bday neighbors lol.MORE LIFE love y’all and keep up the great content creation!

Lsg_Lani

Man the production on this is unreal. Especially for doga kobo, who've like, mainly done middling cute girl shows. Before this show started as far as I am familiar with. Makes me wonder how and why they pulled all this talent and budget. Also this elevates the source material so much it's crazy. I check in with the Manga irregularly and catch up... but I've always been pretty lukewarm on it... but this has me second guessing like crazy how munch of this is how it played out in the Manga, cause I've read it several times and honestly don't even remember, it certainly didn't hit me like this did. It feels like this was written to be animated from conception, without the timing and the movement to convey the acting, and the lush production to really sell it, this all just slid off me. There are quite a few adaptions where I think the Manga is the better experience. But this is so obviously how this story is meant to be experienced. Reading the Manga for this is like pointless, in comparison. It's a show about performance, the production/direction MAKES this.

Paden Snell

The director of this anime needs a raise. It’s a cinema masterpiece.

Arian Barzinpour

?? Idk how i was just saying this is probably the peak of the story but i guess anything a flex now 🙄 not like im spoiling shit or trashing on people enjoying the show or even doing some pretentious gatekeeping like i see in some of the other comment sections here

Deep

I think you're both right, i get what Roshi is saying and Kana taking a step back shows how nasty of an actor she is however, i aligns more with Sheera, Kana like the director said, didn't do anything wrong and did what was "necessary" as she did when she ad-libbed earlier however she did it for the wrong reasons and is being misinterpreted as being "professional" compared to the reality of her falling into line bc of her trauma, it is very likely that in rehearsals the scene was very different. Akane raised her performance in the hope of something in return from Kana, and she even considered it before reverting to type. Between the 2, they were both professional however, Kana's version of it is to simply be compliant, as she did the Bell Pepper Girl, as she did on Sweet Today and even as the lead singer in B komachi before Aqua snapped her out of it. Akane questioned the original script whilst Kana didn't say a word about Sweet Today If anybody has the right to elevate the play or even become the star of the whole thing it's Kana, her character "Tsuguri" is actually MORE popular than Princess Saya and she's arguably the best actor on set. Kana just has negative feedback about standing out and won't take the opportunity.

Taiwo Aileru

FUCK IT’S FEELS SO SHORT😭😭😭

The GoDKing 27

Btw, you should watch Millennium Actress and Perfect Blue (both movie) if you want to see some of the older anime that OnK pulls from.

RF

i dont think this show has missed tbh

speedy

Just had to bring up the manga to flex your superiority 😭

Krype

This adaptation is way better than I thought it would be.

uneedrambo

I really love the discussions though there's like one thing I would like to clarify one thing with Roshi which is that Kana herself is also a part of the main cast. Like yea, Himekawa/Blade (Red Hair dude) and Kana/Saya-hime are the main protagonist and antagonist but it doesn't change the fact that Kana is also a part of that. Like how in Frieren, our protagonist is Frieren, but Fern and Stark are still equally as important. But it is still valid with what both Kana and Akane wanted to do to elevate the play. Though I am more on the side of Akane because had Kana actually wanted to hold back and let Akane shine out of her own free will, I would've been happy with it. But instead, she herself held back because of her old trauma.

HgAlice

The thing is, Kana thinks she's trying to play support because she thinks she's clever and doing what's best for the production, but she's lying to herself. She's just afraid of failing again, and that's the issue. That's why Aqua and Akane want here to break out of that, even if what she does is usually to the benefit of what she's apart of.

Carl

In the grand scheme of things what Kana did wasn't bad at all because she wanted someone in one of the main roles to be in the spotlight but as an actor overall she's limiting her abilities by acting passively. It's like someone who's a point guard and all they do is pass the ball around without scoring, it helps the team overall but they can score once in a while.

Devin B

Man, I can't say it enough. Akane is so cool. She is getting scarier as we learn more about her though because she is clearly the obsessive type.

Tuny kun

daaaaamn Akane just cutting her future boyfriend's screentime to just half a second cuz she fangirled hard on Kana made me chuckle, NGL

Ragnar Pendon

I think ya'll missed the detail from the previous episode, but it's not the screen that's moving... it's the audience seats

Ragnar Pendon

I'm not a manga reader for this I just know a couple of things that happen later on. I've heard this was a lot of people's favourite arc though and I think the manga is in its final arc rn.

King of New York

I get what Roshi is saying as a working actor Kana serves her purpose but like the director also said it can be done by any "serviceable actor" and Akane wants kana to go back to being a great actor

J-or-Dan

For a show with no real action I love it which is rare. Shows gotta have some action to keep me interested or be at least fast paced like the bear

PJ Rivera

Ngl to you this is probably the peak of the whole series as someone whos been up to date with the manga but who knows maybe the author just cooking

Deep

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hasnain Khan

This shows amazing. Crazy some people are still calling it mid

King of New York

Amazing show
