I just don't understand why she felt the need to take him on alone, Maelys and Caraxes vs Vhaegar was always the best bet, Her size and experience with Daemon's battle skill and ferocity would've packed him up very quickly. So why press for an immediate advantage solo instead of retreating first and coming back for a sure thing? She significantly weakened her own side on a gamble

Shes the fastest dragon they have, the most battle experienced, and the largest. Not to mention Rhaenys is a more experienced rider than Aemond. Maeyls WON the first grapple against Vhagar. If Vhagar didn't ambush her, there was a a non-zero chance Vhagar would have lost.

I was saying the meeting... which was Rhaenyra pretty much WALKING into the ENEMY CITY with no support... like you realize the insane amount of risk involved there right? Like without plot armor, Rhaenyra pretty much shoulda died there with that dumb move. Also the other point about the meeting was the fact that Rhaenyra thought Alicent could help her... but Rhaenyra is the leader of her faction so she has power.. but Alicent never really had any power.. so it was entirely stupid.. Rhaenyra taking that INSANE risk for no returns. So it wasn't about being sympathetic to the meeting.. it was about Rhaaenyra's plan, her hoping to meet Alicent.. trusting Alicent wouldn't alert the guards.. hoping Alicent could help somehow... like I said, the plan was just Aegon-levels of stupid. (Or Cole sending the twin knight.. to walk up to Rhaenyra's base to kill Rhaenyra, which we all recognized was stupid as fk.. and Rhaenyra did that same move here.. She is the Leader of her faction.. and she walked into the enemy city, pretty much all alone, lmao.)

That Sheera was sympathetic to the meeting in episode 3 that you didnt like, or the fact that Rhaenyra is even doing shit in the first place/the enire conflict. I think you are to close to this. In a similair way these three are sometimes to o turned off by a character to understand that all stories need arcs for the people in them. I think that goes for you too. Either a time will come when Rhaenyra will pay or shell be redeemed (though at this point you might not think its deserved). To be this worked up about a character leads to missing out on nuances and not getting the point of the story, and it happens to Sheera and Roshi quite a lot actually. Like with Sally from Barry, they could have just enjoyed her for the shallow egotistical bimbo she was but instead they got mad every time she was on screen.

I think Otto should have molded him in a way where their interests aligned.. and they had a bond.. etc. Like I understand the Hightowers family dynamics is all kinds of fkd up like you said, but here the important part is having a puppet King that can be controlled. Otto should have given him attention.. not because he is family but because he was the BIGGEST piece on the board that Otto must have spent his entire life building, lol. They don’t want Aegon to be a strong king they need him to be the face of the of the government while they do the real decisions in the back. Alicent straight up told aegon to be quiet and do nothing I believe the quote was “Do what was expected of you, nothing” Alicent said it to aegon when he was drinking at his table. We see that in terms of how he treats the peasants aegon is not that bad but otto was over there telling him what he should and should not do. Edit: its at 32:05 in this reaction to hear it, also the reason viz named rhaenyra heir is because of Otto pushing him to it to be petty against daemon.

His dad viserys paid more attention to rhaenyra and his art project than him. Alicent was a child whose mother died and got stuck taking care of 1# old king jahaerys then marrying king vis at 15. Otto never treated her like a daughter so she passes the generational trauma onto her kids. For christ sake aemond has a prostitute hold and cuddle him like a child because he never received that kind of attention from his mother. When aegon was crying after his sons death alicent didn’t reassure him. We see when aemond spoke valyrian to aegon he couldn’t respond well because he didn’t take his studies seriously always partying with his goons.

Like its not even about empowerment.. she pretty much went "Oh I didn't want to be Queen, but if y'all saying I CAN'T be Queen even if I wanted to... then now I WANT TO BE QUEEN"... All the deaths in this war will be ON HER... fkn spoiled brat.. Even Aegon woulda been educated at least.. to a "passable" level.. but since Rhaenyra wanted to be Queen, Viserys announced her as his Heir.. so Aegon was never given any attention/education as the next possible Heir, which is why he was so terrible in so many ways. My Favorite right now is Aemond.. like he actually had many hardships to go through: Bullied/No Dragon/Weak/Lost an Eye... and look at him now... He was banking on that chance so he set up Aemond with his dragon to be ready to kill whoever came. Rhaenyra did not know she would have died. She’s fighting for her claim, she would not go and do a suicide mission. That is against her entire mission. She was hoping she would be seen as weak and no one would expect her to pull up on a dragon. Had she followed her initial decision, Cole’s plan would have won them the war by having her killed by Aemond. The battle had heavy losses on both sides, but Rhaenyra just lost the biggest dragon on her side and the support of Rhaenys who had a lot of pull especially with her husband’s support. Who knows how he will act now knowing his wife is dead and believing his son to have also been killed by Rhaenyra in the past. The counsel was listening to him but fighting and arguing with Rhaenyra. If she loses Corlys support due to this, it’s going to be awful. Rhaenyra is in a terrible terrible spot right now compared to The other side.

You can tell the difference in experience between riders with Raenys and her dragon vs Ameond and Ageon and their dragons, they were just spamming Darcays while Raenys’ dragon was actually fighting, grabbing and attacking them. That alone is enough evidence to show that she has no freaking clue that Vhagar would be there. And do y'all pay attention to her dragon? While Syrax is not small, she is tiny in comparison to Vhagar. Like seriously, she seems to stop growing from season 1. Do they even feed her enough? Anyway, Syrax and Sunfyre would be evenly matched, and we could have a short battle when the leaders of two sides engaged in a dragon fight, then both dropped dead from the sky. Then Rhaenys and Daemon could jump Aemon, and whoever wins will ascend the Iron throne.

Just imagine what would happen if she retreated: the castle would still be taken ofc, but the soldiers and their lord would see that the dragon rider, their queen's reinforcement, abandoned them. How many times have we seen her not care for her sons in needs of Mothers Nurture. Theres a reason Aemond still sleeps with his first, and shes older with red hair. Aegon is a Usurper but that doesn’t mean he cant learn. They treat him like a puppet rather than a student. Instead of teaching him all they’ve done was tell him what to do and expect him to understand, but Aegon didn’t really get raised by his father due to the illness so it’s understandable. In my experience, quite a few people always shit on traditionally feminine female characters (and more passive or less masculine male characters) and amplify their flaws, while making excuses for active male characters and more masculine or aggressive/martial female characters. We saw the same thing happen in the original GoT, where Sansa was constantly blamed for things out of her control and called all kinds of demeaning shit, while Arya's flaws were generally ignored since she was a "cool assassin" and had a kill list. We see it happening now with the more feminine Alicent being bashed, while the more tomboyish and martial Rhaenyra gets forgiveness or even praise for any similar actions and flaws. Of course, there are exceptions and limitations... but I've found that this holds true in a general sense, it's not limited to just men doing it, and many who do it don't actually realise they are doing it since it comes from cultural pressures rather than any concious bias.

Her task wasn't done. Soldiers sent to a battle can't just desert their orders because an unexpected threat appears, so it is kinda honor-related but I think it's more to do with duty. Also the threat of Vhagar appearing was always there, she knew what she was walking into and was prepared to die trying anyway

Jake's dragon is probably bigger than his brother's, but nowhere enough to join a battle against Vhagar. Caxares and Meleys are the only big enough to deal with Vhagar. Then again, if Daemon is not in Harrenhal, the Green would probably not use this tactic, and they only use it now because they knew the most the Black could send to Rock's Rest is only Meleys.

That, and she was presented with an opportunity to kill or seriously injure Vhagar which is the Greens' largest, strongest and most experienced dragon. Had Rhaenys and Meleys succeeded the Blacks basically would have won the war by default because at that point the Greens would only have Dreamfyre (Helaena's dragon) and Tessarion (Daeron's dragon, who is barely big enough to be ridden on).

Both sides know that dragons will be met with dragons and that's why an experienced dragon rider had to go. If Vhagar showed up she'd be forced to fight her and only an experienced rider has a chance against that beast. Even after Rhaenys had KILLED THE KING, that wasn't her mission. Leaving at that point would've been desertion and lets be fr, Vhagar would've caught up to her in no time.

He knew he shouldn't have to be king so he didn't expect to have work for it since the being the first born son would have only mattered to him if he expected to inherit. The rulers in game of thrones are short sighted when it comes to succession in the show. If you are not the direct heir you won't be taught much in terms of ruling even if you were supposed to be prepared in case this person died. You're pretty much ignored or forgotten by the current ruler unless it becomes absolutely necessary and they try to catch you up to speed in the last minute.. ( Rhaenyra, Tommen Baratheon, Aegon, hell even Joffery and he was meant to take after Robert Baratheon). They were so busy usurping Rhaenyra claim neither of them bothered to actually curb any of his habits and pretty much let him do what he wanted and expected him to not be a full on puppet king. Whereas Rhaenyra had a loving father and mother for a good portion of her life and the position to be able to refuse things like marrying a Lannister for political capital. And that apathy and placement of political gain above all else has passed down from Otto to Allicent to Aegon and Aemond, generational trauma. Not that it excuses anything, but Rhaenyra had far more room to grow and find herself as a child, and the ability to refuse certain things since she was a Targaryen. I think it's almost to be expected that she would be a more caring and active mother than Allicent is, she also had all her children somewhat of her own volition with men that she loved. Allicent has never had anything close to that.

I largely blame Sarah Hess for writing incredibly illogical and unlikable characters (and often not intentionally). I know RC supposedly wrote this episode, but I can see Hess’ increased influence throughout the entire season so far. That being said, the spectacle was certainly there this episode thanks to Taylor’s directing.
