But as viewers who can look back at that stain it's hard for some to not refer back as an irredeemable flaw.

But it was also that trauma that helped him empathize with what she was going trough, allowing him to properly show her that he understands and wants to help. His brother gave him an example of how not to reach someone going through this type of trauma. Also the brief flash of Rudy looking like Paul to Norn was cool, he was probably giving off those same vibes of a hurt/broken man still trying to pull himself together to take care of their loved one. I really want to see more of his relationship with his family in his previous life, I'm craving something like what Subaru went through seeing his family in the trials

It was subtle but it was meant to be hinted at her fear of him hitting her which she even says one time before she starts crying.

Norn all her life has been compared to Aisha in academics and other subjects giving her an inferiority complex, and it doesn't help either that Aisha would flaunt it in her face constantly. When Rudy opened that chest from Aisha and he read the second letter that was new, it was written by Lilia. Lilia wrote to Rudy that he needs to support Norm with care and warmth as she noticed she feels inferior. She then told Rudeus to be stern to Aisha as she has a massive ego. Another bit was that the grandmother would put Norm down for being "dumber" than a concubine's child. So when Norm finally got to the school she felt she could start fresh now that Aisha won't be there, but then everyone started doing the same thing but with Rudy as the model, and the rest was scene in the episode.

Something that isn’t emphasized in the anime is how big Rudy’s presence is at the school. He’s the strongest mage there, married to the second strongest mage, and has also befriended Princess Ariel, Prince Zanoba the Blessed Child, Demon King Badigadi, and is the boss of the two demi human princesses. It’s just not possible for Norn to avoid hearing about him.
