Most isekai draw on the desire to escape your life, but rarely do they touch on characters who truly enjoyed their life prior. Nanahoshi had friends, family, a bf (or just someone she liked idk), and she’s clearly very smart so probably a career plan as well. Plus the only thing that world has on ours is the ability to use magic and she didn’t even get that… so to her it’s just a more dangerous and less developed world.

Even if you dont fuck with the narrative (I get it, the brocon shit is weird), the way magic is explained and used in that show is fascinating to me. Maybe a bit of the jargon bled thru to my original comment, but time will tell ig.

I heard somewhere that Rudy can imagine inorganic matter being produced by mana, but not organic matter being repaired. He doesn't understand quite how healing magic effects the body, but if he had been a doctor in his prior life maybe he could've. This would explain why he has to use the incantation when casting healing magic or for spells with complex effects for the first time. Until he knows the process for it, he cannot reproduce it. He knows what he wants to heal, but not how to heal it. Sylphie uses a different process for incantationless casting and is thus not effected. This is all from the noggin and mostly based on speculation and a comment I read a few seasons ago. Hope this helped somebody, lemme know if I got stuff wrong and I'll fix.

She had reasons to go back while Rudeus doesn't feel that way. She has people waiting for her at home while he doesn't. And he died while she didn't. There are a lot of reasons why NanahoshI & Rudeus feel The way they do that has little to do with gender.

What they were practicing together was Disturb Magic, the spell that lets you nullify/interfere with someone else's spell casting. It's also a bit glossed over in the scene there but one of the few magics Rudy can't cast without incantations is healing magic (which is why he couldn't heal himself when Orsted gutted him and was unable to speak) while Sylphie amazingly CAN cast healing magic without incantations. It's one thing you could say she has over him, though if Rudy had it he'd honestly be busted.

Rudeus got a new body with taste buds from this world so he can somewhat eat it just fine but Nanahoshi was transported so she still has her body that matured with 21st century japan cooking. Eating is a such a simple pleasure and not being able to do it is just a constant painful reminder that she doesn't belong in this world. that combined with the fact that she doesn't know anyone and can't do magic in a world where non magic people or non fighting people can die at the drop of a hat makes you realise why she wants to go home so badly. Unlike Rudy, she doesn't have the luxury to make a life here.
