Every time they are wiped out all they need is one survivor to start again and that's a new civilization and they've had thousands. Some are short lived and some have enough time to grow but each one adds more knowledge for the next civilization until eventually they learned enough to be able to build ships and leave. The setting of the game is changed to make it easier for humans to understand but each example is from an actual civilization. It also explained their physiology to a degree that they can survive being freeze/flash dried and stored indefinitely and rehydrated as needed which makes me wonder what earth analog would be closer to their actual appearance or something completely outside of our understanding.

As stated by the alien- as soon as their communication occurs intentions are known. So with this being said of course they wouldn't understand stories. Stories are made to communicate knowledge and impart lessons in an indirect way when the original context or intent of the story is not a universal experience. There is no need for this indirect communication in a species that instantly garners all context and intent as soon as they speak to each other- hence why the aliens asked to speak to the wolf.

From ep 1, that woman who lit Auggie's cig, I said she was an angel because of events leading up to that moment. Ep 2 in the graveyard, they kept fixating on the crucifix on her character and off, and then before the scene transitioned, the words "our little angel" appeared. The symbolism/directing so far in this show is great.

If San-Ti cannot lie to each other because they automatically transfer information as soon as they communicate, it means lying to each other is worthless. It doesn't mean they can't hide or omit information when interacting with other species. They had a hard time understanding lies because they assumed humans were like them, but when they understood, they could implement it as a tactic since they don't want to cohabitate.

The Lord says that all information is shared when communication occurs. The San Ti are still individuals who need to communicate - not a hive mind as the group was saying - they just can't withhold info once they do.

2024-04-19 19:33:51 +0000 UTCok so they are not a hive mind. the santi have individual thoughts of course (as it was shown by the pacifist who asked them to not answer), the only problem is that they cannot lie. the conversation between the santi and evans is more nuanced and rich in the book. when asked if they cannot lie the santi basically explain that they communicate through electromagnetic brainwaves. so when they think something that thought is immediately shared to others. the santi then share that they believe our phonatory system (mouth, vocal cords, throat etc.) is a flaw in our specie evolution since for them it just delays the information expressed by our brain. as soon as they realize that it can be in fact a form of strength because it means our intentions are ALWAYS hidden in the brain and human have this amazing ability to hide themselves by either shutting up or lying and not express what they TRULY think (something that was not even imaginable for them) they become afraid of us. ALSO to answer Sheera about the confusion (why the santi clap some humans if they want to coexist with us especially since they cannot deceive), you need to remind yourself again that they are not a hive mind, just another specie. so they did experience war in their planet as well as basic disagreement *again the example of the pacifist who did not agree to their view* so it does not come as a surprise for them that some humans will be opposed to the invasion and that humans have different clans. in their planet when some santi declare war to other santi they do it openly because they cannot deceive and just fight. Finally you might argue that the question 'do humans experience fear as individuals' contradicts what i've been saying however you gotta think that the santi are a specie at the brink of extension so for them fear is innate to their life. and in the book the pacifist who warned the human was considered 'fearless' and an anomaly to them because he did not agree to their culture. it's interesting how one fearless individual who hated their specie's culture of violence interacted with another's fearless individual who hated the same violence.

This isnt a problem itself but it makes the plot point about them creating the helmets and the video game make no sense( they cant understand Red Riding hood, but they can understand a video game) ALSO, The plan was originally for them to wipe out atleast most humans or even allow summon to escape from Earth, but after learning that humans can deceive them in a way they cant even properly understand, they decide that NO human can be left alive.

Which is probably why the pacifist could send out the warning without alerting the rest of the San ti because they weren't communicating with rest of the San ti just Ye. Also not sure if they're completely a hivemind race, their hivemind might only apply to their emotions and not knowledge/info that they communicate amongst each other

It seems like they can hide things from each other unless there is more than one alien species coming or who intercepted the message. But for me, the San-Ti are liars, they just play stupid or what they sent to earth is not able to lie but they are.
