in megumi’s defense he had no way of knowing sukuna was going to intervene and cause the taming ritual to extend beyond megumi and ponytail dude. if sukuna had never arrived then the two of them would’ve been killed by mahoraga, maybe cause SOME collateral damage to surrounding structures, and mahoraga would’ve vanished afterwards. megumi is someone that actually thinks things through in combat, and he probably imagined that because he was alone with ponytail, mahoraga wouldn’t have threatened/killed anyone else before the ritual finished

Not sure I understand. I think you may have gotten the impression that mahoraga's adaptation is instant. We also don't know how it functions so we can't know if it can adapt to fatigue, breathing etc. Obviously they won't go for immediate adaptation because its too op and not very interesting at all(unless placed into a different verse) I disagree with the thought that if its not "true" adaptation then adaptation has no place in a story.

It isn't but my point still stands that every single adaptability power is always a shitty watered down version of the real thing. It's annoying since none of it Is actual adaptability. They just get more resistant to things. Here the shinigami learned to use cursed energy but that's not that impressive. Everyone uses it. It clearly knows how to fight and isn't a mindless beast so it can learn so using it could easily be attributed to combat skill.

Was a badass fight. Too bad it's still in the category of baby trash adaptation that everyone uses instead of actual true adaptation. The true adaptation ability to adapt to everything and anything is have taken out sukuna very fast. The first dismantle would have made all others do nothing. That would be true adaptation. But we got the trash watered down version of it. No one seems to understand that true adaptation is the most broken ability to exist period. Become immune to any and all attacks. The more you run the faster you get and the less energy you take until the flash at his fastest speed would be frozen in place. Even small things like holding your breath would eventually make it so you never need to breathe again. I get why no one ever puts this level in a story but if they are always going to put in the trash nerfed version then don't bother. Just make it more resilient. Like tempering their body instead of adapting.

Great reaction guys, this episode shows how amazing an animatin can turn out when the animators have proper time and resources to work on something. However, the sad thing is, people have already forgotten about the treatment of the animators and will go back to saying "We Love Mappa" and "Thank you Mappa" when its the animators themselves that make this amazing work and Mappa as a company are the ones that almost ruin it. Just saying Normalize thanking animators and not the Companies themselves, because most of them are trash that do the same shit as Mappa on some level.

This storyboarding and art direction are truly excellent. Every choice felt like it added to the art. The Gyutaro fight scene has gorgeous choreography and the art is full of life and emotion. The style and intention of the two fights seems too different to be worth comparison.

This fight is significantly better animated than that fight. I loved Tengen's fight too, it was generational. Ufotable's fights aren't known for it's top tier animation, it's their blend of 3D elements and amazing visual effects. When it comes to animation, this fight is leagues ahead of that one - the motion they are depicting here is insane considering how much of it has to come from pure imagination. Wild to me how much negativity propagates though.

15:47 Roshi that’s dismantle not cleave, Sukuna's default ranged slashing attack that is normally used for inanimate objects, however it can also be used against cursed spirits and sorcerers to great effectiveness. cleave is a slashing attack that adjusts itself depending on the target's toughness and cursed energy level to cut them down in one fell swoop. unless used in his domain expansion, Sukuna must make physical contact with the target in order to activate cleave.

Very nice. I know when watching this fight I had an inkling some stuff was off, mainly their sudden Location shifts because one scene would happen then something crazy animation happens in like half a second that confused me on wtf I even saw and suddenly they look like they're in a completely different place. Also I remember being disappointed they didn't show people ( except for the girl and her phone scene ) get caught up in the collateral but here they rectified that issue showing people getting caught up and splatted. I loved that.

He summoned that demonic untameable being for that weak character just because he was gonna lose. The situations megumj was prepared to summon mahoraga were always 1 on 1. If sukuna didnt interfere mahoraga would have taken out the side pony tail dude then disappeared. Megumi doesnt know sukuna wants him alive. Megumi didnt know yuji was fed 10 fingers and lost control. He was bleeding out dying and decided to take out the guy who stabbed him because hes an issue that kept living. Things only escalated because of sukuna.

What's cool is that for several of those chopping motions that Sukuna was putting out, they're actually feints. He's essentially testing to see the extent Mahoraga can react to his technique in some manner. It's nice to see some actual martial arts theory implemented and it makes me hope that future fight scenes can show this side more often. Also, when Mahoraga is boxing the air the idea is that he's boxing the slashes. It's goofy and badass at the same time lol.

He wouldn't have needed to do anything, Mahoraga would have vanished after killing Megumi and Shigemo, the two people involved in the taming ritual. The collateral damage is entirely because Sukuna was there to force it to ramp up, and even then is only in the anime - in the manga Mahoraga just breaks a few walls, all the real collateral damage is because of Malevolent Shrine.

Maharoga would of been released after he killed the blonde booty bandit but he still could of (and did) caused so much collateral in the process of trying to slaughter him. The risk was great

Seeing this makes me furious the Crunchyroll only provides the dimmed versions of shows! It does not have to be that way.

This storyboarding and art direction are truly excellent. Every choice felt like it added to the art. The Gyutaro fight scene has gorgeous choreography and the art is full of life and emotion. The style and intention of the two fights seems too different to be worth comparison.
