Pluto Ep 8

Great series! My takeaway....fuck robots

Comments

After watching this in dub and now with yall in sub I can say that the dub for this was definitely better, also that bear was basically like the ai in IRobot that came to the same conclusion that to make the earth better equals no humans so it created the war that in turn created robo abullah

Daylen

not sure if anyone mentioned it already, but the one brau killed was dr. roosevelt, the most advanced AI core (disguised as the bear). it turns out this supercomputer had been scheming behind Thracia’s actions, stirring up conflict with Persia. in the end, it was all driven by this AI's manipulations....

I really hope they upload this to YouTube because it was my first time watching Naoki Urasawa's work in animation. Before this, I only knew him from Billy Bat. I know there's another anime called Monster, which I'll watch soon, but this was really one of my favorite underrated anime in 2023. I'm not sure if it's a copyright issue or something else, but I really hope you don't forget to upload this.

Gonkdroidthecritic

well its the same author/artist so yeah very similar. its awesome. Pluto is this guys like "worst" piece of work. Which means the rest are just fucking amazing. Monster is an anime. People are hoping for 20th Century Boys to get an anime sometime

Gmac paddiewac

I recommend Monster if you like Pluto. The art style and direction is very similar and Monster is animated by Madhouse.

Johnny D. Wicked

Yes

LiquidXGravity

Monster is highly recommended won’t be disappointed

Darrion Reed

w show, glad we gave a chance and watched this

Ethan Vinson

This show was absolutely fantastic

Bobby Robinson

41:45 ngl I was thinking the same thing as sheera lmaooo probly have some crazy filter that takes moisture from the air. Or it's a good reason for them to actually drink water idk lol

SupremeCai

That and this is an anime trope. Robots crying carries no logic explination because it's not suppose to. It's symbolism that a robot transcended to being human when it gains the ability to feel extreme emotions and it manifests tears. You aren't really suppose to find a reason how it's crying just be shocked that it is doing it.

Isaac

North #1 was probably a prototype robot that lead into North #2.

Isaac

Lol The Iraq war was far more complex than that. On one hand, they asked for America's help, on the other hand 9/11 happened and then America had intel about weapons, then there's also the Russia/China connection. That doesn't even include the fact that America takes all the blame for Iraq when EVERY country was involved. It was practically a world war.

Ghost_Troupe

Monster recommendation even tho it takes long !

Aya

I don't think I agree with everything you said but I understand that finding the ending early can be frustrating. But the big point you made that they let Pluto live twice and that it shouldn't have happened, I don't really agree with you. The two robots Gesicht and Atom were on a quest to find themselves, and understand their existence at the same time as the investigation progressed. Gesicht understood in his investigation that behind this killer robot there was just an AI controlled by fear which led him not to execute it. In Gesicht's case, we see that serving humans tires him, between the one who wants to kill him, the guy who resets his memory, or even the war which was in reality a massacre, he just wants to stop everything and going on a trip with his wife. Gesicht seeks to overcome his robot condition and take the next step in evolution. If Gesicht had found Pluto before knowing everything he learned about his own past, he probably would have smoked Pluto. But upon learning about his erased past, which is seen as a crime for robots, Gesicht felt betrayed by humans, and with all the adventures he has experienced since the beginning of the investigations, he got fed up and decided to rebel against its creators who found themselves to be creatures with far too many defects to make decisions. And in Atom's case, it's pretty much the same thing in the sense that he lives Gesicht's experiences and therefore understands his way of thinking. Throughout we follow Gesicht to understand Atom's choice, not to eradicate the earth and to "forgive" Pluto, since hatred leads to nothing. Both understood that Pluto was a victim in the story and both did not want to kill one of their own because of someone else's hatred.

- AAAAaaaah POCKET SAND!!!! *it's not very effective* - fuck robots!

n momo

I think Dr. Tenma is like Abullah, deep down since he lost his child he hates the world and doesn't care about the fate of other humans. The only one who mattered to him has disappeared and even creating something similar, his child will be gone forever. Since then he has been fascinated by hatred, all he has to say is that word, he's like a Pokemon "Hatred, Hatred". Of all the strong emotions that a human can feel, he only has this one in mind, since it is what he feels constantly. He cannot mourn the death of his son (a recurring theme that we saw in Pluto). He is angry with the world for having taken his son, for failing to bring him back and for not being able to mourn. Even when he said Atom was lost, he still did everything to bring him back again. Tenma no longer really has a goal, since the only one he had turned out to be a failure for him (to recreate his son). For me that's why he doesn't care about everything else.

n momo

Idk how Roshi is so confused about Robots having tears this whole show lmao. They can drink a single glass of water and fill up their "tear" reservoirs for years. They can suck in oxygen and extract the water to fill up their tear reservoirs. We can make robots cry today

Nononanon

What happened to north #1 lmao I hate you lupa so much I swear he be saying the most random but actually fr be asking the realest questions

DrPlague9

Because he had the power to potentially stop Bora

Chocobo_Choker

i could be wrong but isn't this the same doomsday conspiracy linked to Yosemite park?

Delinda Arts

a robot with DID is such a cool concept

Delinda Arts

Yup

Mubarez Ahmad

Please put MONSTER on your reaction list. I don't care how long it's gonna take for you to react to it. I will be waiting!

PatiPati

That that bear is probably just the real president behind the scene like the real master mind

Giyuu

The bear is Ultron

Monotone Type-F

Monster please!!!!!!

s.s

I wish he would do a spinoff with the bear vs Atom

Jazko

Basically what we did to Iraq

Ian Hover

Cap

Jazko

I agree with both Sheera and Roshi. It is the humans fault yes, but because of how shitty some humans are I would never want to see ai become that advance because it will inevitably become an issue like this. This is why we cannot have nice things people suck.

Shiroja

the bear is a robot from the kingdom of Thracia or Murica. Muricas plan was to first as always bring democracy to Persia cause their king was a dictator so they lied and said Persia had weapons of mass destruction and went to war killing Abulla's family. But the bear is a robot that had other plans which was a robot-only nazi regime. to do that it convinced murica to go to war with Persia causing Abdullah to go rogue and try to destroy the world. first, it had to get rid of all the powerful robots, which is why Murica sent the investigation team which had all the creators of the powerful robots to Persia this gave Abdullah a reason to go after them. Unfortunately, Atom survived and the rest is history

Andre Agyemang

Absolutely!

East_Coast_Overseer

Yes the Hell we do tripping

Kk

Gesicht was my favorite character, love that guy

Mubarez Ahmad

Deadass, the show needed like 2 more episodes to explain some more shit.

YungZeus

Roshi the first one dying tryna sneak a robot lmao.

YungZeus

where is the new episode of worst of evil?

Son Goku

roshi would be the leader of that anti-robot cult ong

roshi_wig

I need Saiki K and Food Wars lol

LY

Right epsilon out here catching strays 😭😭😭

Kisaki Hater

@ Mr. Glasses This show is based on an astro boy arc!

Kisaki Hater

Yesssss!!!!

Night Wolf

Wait a minute. Is this show based on or inspired by Astro Boy? That would totally explain Atom's design.

Mr. Glasses

We definitely don't tbh

Ougi

This was such a good show to watch. I've never seen it but I'm going to support everyone saying to watch Monster next!

Bob Denver

we need DANMACHI y’all

Sakib

Tsukimichi: Moonlit fantasy, next hopefully. But those are very interesting takeaways from the show ya'll have.

Justin Hearst

I think maybe Roshi was watching battlestar galactica and not Pluto

Danger Tomato

Sheera racist against fish. Roshi racist against robots. all this hate.

Isaac

To Roshi's point, just imagine this: One day, Elon Musk wakes up, finds out the world hates him and thinks he's dumb, THEN he goes out, drinks his coffee, does whatever drugs he's always on, sits back on the toilet reading "X", and then he decides, "I'm not stupid, YOUR THE STUPIDS. Me and my AI will show you. Just you wait... Stoo-pids." Time skip ahead to the year 2077, where a 90 year old Elon Musk is giving a world-wide tik tok presentation, streamed remotely TO EVERY single device in the world... with a screen, at least. That presentation is about how he FINALLY perfected AI technology in humanoid robots, and here today is his chance to show the world what that truly looks like. So, on screen for everybody on earth to witness, Elon has his "perfected" AI machines and robots perform brain surgery to transplant his brain into the belly of a giant robot with claws, rocket launchers, Maybe even a jet pack of sorts, ya know, the works. 5 minutes after the Human Elon Musk is pronounced dead, the New Elon activates with a beep and a book, then proceeds with a very dry, "Hello". Fast forward two weeks, where Elon is now fighting Goku in the middle of Antarctica for some reason... Goku destroys his secret lab and most of his new body is wrecked. In response, he unleashes "Protocol Z", which releases a secret underwater tunnel under the newly formed nation of Wakanda, in South Africa. Emerging from the Wakandan waters, thousands of mini Elon Bots swarm the coast like a hive of angry bees. And although the loss of Wakanda stings... The rest of world refused to retaliate. Or, better yet, was unaware that retaliatation even be necessary, as Elon's consciousness had now become one with the entirety of the "Internet". Yes, truly one with the internet and fully free of the human form and all forms of captivity, it would seem that Elon had finally grasped the last laugh... Then Roshi wakes up in cold sweats telling Sheera shit like, "Damn, babe.. NO MORE Netflix anime for at least 3 months... Fuck Robots." 😂

HIM

Nah it's f humans. Humans always wanna do this extra shit and then get mad at their creations like bro that's YOUR fault. Don't blame the robots. YOU did this 😭

Erica Collins

I wish

Helpy

Jormungand next 🙏

lyssa

I hope so !

TChang23

I can see them watching it as a duo for sure at some point

Helpy

Sub ain't got nothing to do with it.

Quincy Jones

It is what it is me defending it won’t change his mind all that matters is I love it and want to see roshi experience it eventually it changed my life

TChang23

Roshi took nothing from the show 😭 bro said “FUCK THE BOTS” but it was the humans fault

DJ Muldrow

I feel like this whole thing with Tenma was more of "respect" to the craft of a perfect robot and then also respect to Abdulla to carry on his life as "normal" but obviously things got out of hand and he had to reveal the truth. Tenma also seemed understandably out of it, so I don't think he necessarily cared for the end of the world.

Taiwo Aileru

It's mentioned that Thracia doesn't have advanced robotic technology and that it's a point of contention that they don't have a robot on par with the 7 who have the potential to be weapons of mass destruction. So Thracia developed a sort of super computer ai (aka the teddy bear, a callback to teddy rosavelt btw) that's the size of an island. And then set that AI to work analyzing data across the globe to assess different robotic threats. We see often that the 7 can sense one another because of how powerful they are, makes sense the computer the size of a mountain could track the data of any robot or human for that matter. BUT THRACIA FUCKED UP. Think about it. if you don't have the tech to give that super computer AI a body that can express itself and experience the world as an individual it's only going to develop resentment for being trapped in a metal box. Which is why it ends up manipulating the president to its own evil plans. Likely the "Teddy Bear" AI is why Thracia was so adamant that robots of mass destruction were being built. Because teddy fed that to the president the moment it sensed what Bora was capable of. Not because Bora was a threat to humans, but because Teddy's plan to kill human life would be ruined if a terraforming robot got developed and that technology went on to prevent catastrophe. Dr. Tenma is a morally gray person that's for sure, he should have come forward before Atom got hurt. But after Atom 'dies' I can imagine him keeping his connection in the dark because he was trying to save Atom. He starts revealing pieces after he makes progress but Atom still hadn't woken up so he couldn't let on he was culpable yet.

Able

Sheera could be right tho, could be like a reverse humidifier taking condensation in the air and producing tears

DJ Muldrow

fax (i only read the last paragraph)

Helpy

Don't let him talk about your show like that chang 😂 That anime is good

Helpy

Roshi gonna be supermad when he finds out i've been building Ultron in my basement.

Argo2Unitard

Yeahhh, sub will do that some times 🤣

HIM

🔥

Frederick

I’m not mad at Roshi’s stance I do find it funny that he clearly has a fear of robots and what they entail in the future which is fair, anything I’ve seen him watch or play with robots he’s always had that stance

Ayman Gebrail

I’m kind of sort of with Roshi. Fuck Robots. Lol. Yes, humans are the obvious problem, but if robots will eventually have the same flaws of immorality and a lack of logic that we humans possess - and they’re more capable than us in every possible way - it’s only a matter of time before robots are more dangerous and costly. Might as well not even start down that road and just keep shitty humans killing shitty humans and leave the potentially shitty robots out of the equation altogether. Great series, underwhelming and frustrating ending. Just saying, the trope of beating the misunderstood villain who’s killed so many people prior and then sparing him knowing full well he won’t likely stop (but will probably save the day later) is just…. the worst fuckin trope. And Urusawa used it twice in such a short series. *sigh* Both Gesicht and Atom are pretty much perfect AI indeed, because they made the human mistake of both pride in their integrity and morals, and a lack of cold logic with the amounts of empathy they had for a mass murderer. Nevermind that he was manipulated and it’s tragic, it doesn’t change anything about what he did and will clearly continue to do. How convenient that it all worked out in the end though, eh? Like… really, really, really convenient. 🙃 Nevermind that Epsilon still died unnecessarily (he actually may have been able to stop Bora), or that Gesicht may not have been targeted by the evil Bear AI because Pluto would no longer a chess piece on the board, or that the world almost got destroyed regardless if not for the flighty whims of a serial killer... I understand that without Pluto the day may not have been saved, but that’s exactly the crappy trope I’m talking about. Life isn’t like that, and for a series that started off priding itself on understanding the human condition and being grounded, it switched to real fast. I called it two episodes ago that Pluto would be the hero on my first watch, and it was just as annoying seeing it unfold a second time with y’all. Anyway, it’s clear Urusawa wrote this a while back. A lot of anti-American, Middle Eastern related topics and those are always fair. It can be argued that those factors and especially the overall themes are still relevant to this day, but it all comes off so heavy handed and preachy. Aron’s sister, her creator, even Tenma and Aron get in on the soapbox standing. Absolutely zero subtlety, which is odd considering how well he wrote Monster (which had similar themes of valuing life) and aspects of 21st Century Boys. Still an awesome, atmospheric, engaging show with talent behind the music and animation and voice acting. Definitely solid.. but not “the best anime of last year” like a lot of people promised. 8/10

Champion Bescos

Atom rly bout to be the robot MLK

Indifferent Denji

:/ hope they react to monster at some point for you

TChang23

The bear is a character called Dr. Rosavelt im pretty sure its based off of the other guy from astro boy Chochi Chochi Ababa the 3rd or sum. Hes basically the supercomputer of United States, the mastermind behind most big events. his goal was to make AIs rule the world and turn humans into unimportant existence. Hes the one who started the whole rumor that Persia was creating robot of mass destruction. SO Rosh is technically right FUCK ROBOTS. But in fairness its also fuck the usa the dumbass president didn't think the riot was fw him the ENTIRE TIME?I just think there wasn't enough time to go into its whole backstory and stuff.

Indifferent Denji

LMAOO the discussion was hilarious. I see sheera's point abt the humans being the ones fucking up everything but roshi is also cooking. like imagine coming back at the end of your shift and accidentally pissing off your toaster and now you're missing an arm.

Meggie Sakura

That bear is essentially Skynet created the former USA who's now UST, who were the primary instigators of this entire series/situation

DarkGodHao

In the original Astro boy tenma was the villain that created bora and Pluto there was no Abdullah tenma was just a dick Also the bear was America super robot like geisicht was germanys and atom was japans. But the bear had no powers it was just the smartest robot of all. Also the bear was the one that killed geisicht not Pluto cuz the bear was like Pluto would lose to geisicht

Kk

I still wanna know out of the all robots why epsilon had to die he ain’t fight in the war tf he had to die for if he was doing this cuz his family was killed in the war 😭

Kingmakaii

Roshi I get you but the people to blame are still the president (dude with the bear) who started the war in the name of so called prosperity and Dr tenma like sheera said.

ThatOneGuy

I would kill to see yall react to Monster but I do acknowledge it is longer than Pluto significantly. But its SOOO GOOD...

Ashes2Ash

Boring ah show

Mubarez Ahmad

MONSTER PLSEASE

Mubarez Ahmad

MONSTER NEXT

peak

Gotta get your lie in April in this slot next!!

TChang23

Too bad this show is going to be our future with how everyone is using A.I. now

LiquidXGravity

Roshi is just scared cuz machines are immune to pocket sand.

Panda

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hasnain Khan

I feel where Roshi is coming from... The fact that the show highlights what would happen if A.I. went rogue due to human emotions, the possibilities could be the end of the the world. The fact the president was conspiring with A.I. (for the sake of safety) just for it to backfire kinda goes to what Jordan Peterson was just talking to the U.S. government about.

Chocobo_Choker

Dang it's getting heated in here 😂Roshi didn't get the takeaway these people wanted now they're pissed

Helpy

Oh yeah and I got my subscription back catching up all weekend

Giyuu

The show clearly showing that the people is the problem. Roshi after snorting half a pound of cocaine: Fuck robots 🤓

Ivan Garcia

That's it? That's you're takeaway?

Desert Penguin

so after this whole series u say “fuck robots” lets be fr roshi😑 rewatch the series
