I give Matakara's slack because Arajin was technically his strength as he really looked up to Arajin. I wouldn't even call it an obsession, Mata obviously really admires him, it's debatable if it goes past that or not but of course he's going to constantly mention becoming a Honki person with Ara.

Arajin when they were kids is the one who actually inspired him to be a Honki person, but when he realized they were in over their heads and it's "dumb kid shit" he dipped and forgot about that. Matakara still believed in it while growing up. Arajin doesn't want anything to do with that mf anymore because he's not actually the type of person Matakara believes he is and he's annoying. Shindo planted doubt in Matakara's mind about Arajin, and the reason he was bringing it up when his brother was dying, is because Honki people were his brother's beliefs and his whole life he thought Arajin was that type of person.

I'm sure they'll have them butt heads at first, but they'll come back together somehow along with the Djinns. Each of the characters have been given obvious flaws for a reason, y'all.

Arajin just abandoned him with nothing to go off on except the relationship they had before and Matakara just kept that image of him thinking everything was ok.
