Clair Obscur is an Endless Canvas of Grief

I'll have to stop myself from making three more videos on this game.

late to the party on this but I only just finished the game. I think a lot of the "which ending" discourse misses that both are tragic and that tension is deliberate. the game is basically a meta-textual commentary on video games, they can be a source of comfort and community, they can also be addictive. but the creators love video games, they're not going to make an allegory that says to burn it all down. they're basically saying keep it in perspective and have some moderation.

Finally finished the game after the spoiler warning. Wouldn’t have played without it, and so glad I did. Have been saving these videos because I like to watch them in order, so celebrating October 1st as Jacob Geller binge day! 😄

I think this is one of your best, my dear friend.

Not to throw shade at anyone else's opinion of a story but in my opinion Verso is an absolute rat bastard. Betrays all his friends and kills everyone TWICE. I don't care how sympathetically they try to color him. He lies like he breathes and stabs everyone in the back. Verso is the kind of guy that would steal your wallet and then help you search for it. The fact is the entire Dessedre family is kind of awful. Not unlike the gods of Greek mythology, their family drama unleashes pain and misery on their creations. The only way to view them as anything other than monsters is if the people in the canvas aren't sentient, which the game heavily implies isn't the case. Conversely if they are alive I'm not exactly sad for Verso unhappily playing the piano for a while until Maelle dies and the canvas gets destroyed anyways. Oh I'm so sorry you didn't get to kill everyone... Again. That said I understand and appreciate other people's interpretations. One of the reasons this game is so good is because it is so open to interpretation. But in mine, holy hell do I think Verso is an awful person.
