Frieren Ep 7

this show is excellent

Comments

ep 6 is missing ?

Anamo

I'm reminded of how the non-human characters in Gargoyles had a way of looking at time like Frieren does. Somebody would say, "Let us meet again in 75 years" or something like that. Usually time management is the focus but here it's more of the lens through which time is seen from.

DevilMayCarter

*Lupa seeing Lugner seconds after seeing the kid die* “is that him?” 🤦

Andrew shultz

Lol thanks you. I found episode 6 after and typed on that one "found it"

Adrian Aldridge

You have to type Frieren in the search bar. It'll show up.

Imani Brooks

Where is episode 6???

Adrian Aldridge

isnt that sukunas VA? IM PRETTY SURE

Rishad GB

“YOU THINK I DIDNT KNOW YOU DIDNT HAVA DAAAD??!” Lupa killed me with that one—wanted to holler but I’m at work lol

Clinton Vance

The demons are dope asf

stanley drury anderson jr

damn lupa stay on her ass every episode lmao. Idk what he dont get about a thousand years. A few months is like days to her. You baggin on her for not seeing humans perspective on time and you're doing the exact same thing to her.

Mollywopper

now you know what the Jogo felt when Geto told him to hold Gojo for a minute..

Sy'mon Almeida

thx KING

TheRuudster

I think it’s more that they could have done better writing the manipulative demon trope, because it comes off less like they’re manipulative and inherently evil, and more like they lack understanding, develop strangely, and/or simply oppose humans, since they are perfectly capable of intelligent thought, emotions, interests and hobbies, etc., it’s made more complex than I think the writers intended, I wouldn’t say it’s racist, more just typical vaguely fasc-y anime tropes, so it’s more of a meta problem, which shouldn’t be attributed to Frieren the character, and really as long as you stay aware of this typa trope, it isn’t a big deal

MayvaAva

The thing is, they're evil, just go and read the manga, Frieren says so all the time.

xX Valtiel Xx

Old comment but, part of me wishes they went for a less intelligent/emotional creature if they’re going the genocide route yknow? I mean lots of anime has a bit of an ick vibe like that, so I don’t care too much but it’s just a shame, it feels weird to show the village story as an example, since that demon clearly wanted peace, otherwise they coulda destroyed the village instead of just killing the father, but they just didnt understand, it wasn’t malicious and I think that’s the issue, I can’t root for their races downfall when they aren’t actually inherently evil, adore this show but they coulda done better showcasing that

MayvaAva

Can't find it

DayBlaze

anyone looking for ep 6 just search Frieren on their home page, its not tagged

Douglas Wolfe

Beet the Vandal Buster???, talk about a blast from the past. I loved that series

Jaelyn Mcgee

i love how literally not even 5 minutes prior frieren said elves lack romantic feelings and sexual desire and immedially, sex joke from shera lol

Lemonkatze

I didn't win me over until Ep 5... but it's just amazing. It feels so candid and meaningful

Franklin wasn't getting away with 35mil scott free

Also Lügner means "Liar", Fern means "far away", Stark means "strong" and Ende means "the end". German gets used quite a lot by Japanese fantasy authors as for most Japanese People it sounds strange an magical enough so that the author doesn't need to do the Tolkinesk task of inventing a new fantasy language, while at the same time there are enough resources in Japan to actually learn German, because of historical reasons (no not only because of WW2 and the alliance but also because the whole medical system in Japan at one time was German based and doctors learned by reading the original German Texts. Which then lends itself to the image of a magical language one has to know to get secret fantastic knowledge)

Nago

it´s most likely german, Himmel being "Heaven", Frieren meaning "to shiver / being cold", Eisen means "Iron" and Heiter being "happy", as well as Frierens Master Flamme which means "Fire/ Flame"

HellSpawn

As part of humanity, that’s what evil means

szeth

Bait

szeth

As a Norwegian i noticed that Himmel means either heaven or like the sky and Frieren mean proposer(wedding proposer). Idk where they took the names from, but I found it interesting, especially Himmel meaning heaven or the sky since his like color scheme really matches it

Lurendreier

Yup this is an automatic favorite

Narutofreak94

Not lugner using talk no jutsu for manipulation Naruto would be ashamed. Also this is what I think of when I hear the phrase on demon time. I wonder in the future if there will be a demon who was raised by a human as an infant? That demon might be able to interpret human emotions and live alongside them. I kind of don't want it to happen though because I love this version of what a demon is. It's not that they don't have emotions it's that they don't know what they are to begin with. They just copy and paste what they hear and see I think in a lot of ways they're the opposite of elves. They do want to reproduce it's just afterwards they leave for milk and never come back. Then again they're just monsters so f them I guess 🤷‍♂️.

Leo

I don't know, the show does a really good job explaining that demons in this world are akin to smart monsters. They don't have a sense of humanity or feelings. I know many modern takes in fantasy tries to go the route of humanizing all races or factions. So i actually find it refreshing and interesting that here it play on our nature to humanize intelligent beings, because demons here don't have no concept of it but will use it to get what they want.

phantomzxro1

She said she could fight the dragon, she just needed someone to distract it enough for her to cast the spell. And it was already an exceptionally powerful dragon if I remember correctly. (I hate spoilers too, but did you really not think Frieren could at least hold her own against the underling of an underling of an underling? I don't know what happens next, so I could be wrong, but that was what I was expecting.)

Kinkaz

No one said the demons should care? You misread Ops comment.

Kinkaz

"Why do they hate demons? They only manipulate & kill them out of instinct." That's it, that's the reason. You think prey animals dont hate their predators either?? More intelligent animals (& not even just them either) behave the same way. Humans have instincts too & our instincts make us more prone to hate creatures that kill us, they are acting on instinct too lol. (And if a lion starts hunting children, that's not just instinct) And demons aren't completely comparable to regular animals since they have armies & shit & wage war on their prey. That's more than just instincts.

Kinkaz

Is it really racism if she isn't even a little wrong & they also arent a race? Like, they literally show they are lying through their teeth & call themselves predators?? I feel like if different races in fantasy were just called species or creatures or something else, people wouldn't say this.

Kinkaz

What did the old man do to you?? It's not that serious

Kinkaz

The demons in this series are just that, demons, from our human perspective, they're monsters that need to be wiped out, none of that generic anime trope where they're misunderstood and want peace and the MC saves them from the big bad humans, not in Frieren, the only good demon is a dead demon.

xX Valtiel Xx

Just doesn't have a tag, but it's still there, just search it.

Derick A. Hartman

I personally don't think it too surprising that those people don't know that demons don't have family. They've only ever fought them and any time they can possibly hear demons talk, the demons would be lying out of their asses. Plus they look and sound very human so it's understandable if it throws people off. Besides, Frieren's knowledge of demons seemed to stem from Flamme. And no one ever got to any of her books aside from Frieren. The only chance people would have found out is if Frieren even cared to go around teaching people about it. But as we know, Fern's the only disciple she ever took. She seems to always just keep to herself otherwise.

NJ

Not to mention in terms of skill I'd imagine she's basically maxed out after 1000 years. Her training is info gathering which she excels at.

SoggySoup

@Lucid - Hmm. That's not what I was expecting, but I appreciate the translation. Thank you!

Merfhew

Aww, does Sheera not announce "Beyond Journey's End" during the intro anymore? I've always loved it when she and Lupa tag team the show titles.

Merfhew

@Homeskillet -- I can't really blame those people for wanting to be empathetic, even if their emotions are misplaced and/or self-serving. It kinda feels like the "friendly demon" trope is more frequent than the "manipulative demon" trope in recent years, so it's also possible that people are expecting a twist ending where Frieren is wrong. I'd be lying if I said that thought hasn't crossed my mind. I mean, Frieren can barely even understand humans. Keep in mind that there's a reason these demons have the in-universe (and some real life) humans fooled. They play on our humanity by mimicking human language.  Honestly, if I wasn't fleeing for my life at the sight of those horns, I'd probably fall for their manipulation, too.

Merfhew

it literally translates to "Count Garnet". Garnet referring to the gemstone

this is one long ass username

What about Graf Granat? My headcanon is that it translates to "Gullible Father," but I don't speak the German language. 😅

Merfhew

on god. even if they WERE considered people, anything that primarily eats humans gets smoked on sight idc

em

True, nur boomer benutzen das wort heiter

Ice

It is weird that some people actually are upset at how Frieren treats demons and call it racism. There is no racism. Demons aren't people or some kind of different race. They literally tell you that the demons are monsters. They are descended from monsters that acquired human speech to lure in prey.

Homeskilletbiscuits

Going to act as the german nazi grammar police here. Heiter more accurately translates to "joyous" or "cheerful" instead of happy. It’s a more nuanced word in the German language, which btw isn’t used by 99% of the people living here

this is one long ass username

Thought I’d just share the English translations to the casts names so far, as literally ALL of their names are actual German words. Frieren = freezing Fern = distant Stark = strong Lügner = liar Draht = wire (as in cable) Linie = line Himmel = heaven Flamme = flame Eisen = iron Heiter = cheerful Qual = suffering (The demon sage Frieren killed with his own spell)

this is one long ass username

Tbh though even a lot of apex predators live in family units. Bear, lions, wolves, orcas all have some semblance of parents and children for a while. These demons seem to be on the extreme end of isolation and really are "monsters" in that sense when you consider the manipulation they use.

Ethan

But Sheera, they 4v1ed the Demon King probably.

earthphoenix7068

What happened to episode 6?

LazSin

I don't know if u are aware but: pretty much every character's name in this show is a german word. Eisen means iron, Frieren means to freeze, Stark means strong, Heiter means happy, Himmel means sky/heaven, Flamme means flame, Linie means line, Draht means wire and so on. And the demon dude's name Lügner literally means liar. Their names probably are supposed to reflect their very basic character traits. I love it

Saraël Lele

That's the thing I remember most about reading the manga is how mater of fact the demons are in this series. They're like demonic Vulcans, not quite Romulan more like evil spock's.

Jamaal Ellison

This anime is really good in telling an episodic story. The line " I don't want you to feel lonely" that the hero said to frieren connects back to the start of the episode, when frieren said that she's the only one that remembers flamme's face. The hero doesn't want frieren to feel alone in remembering her party's face. Every episode has been like this self containing story about a theme

Oisif

As I’m reading the comments my excitement for next episode gets higher. No spoilers beyond all y’all wait and see what the actual answer to these theories are :D

Brailyn Mar

Trappings of Tolkien-esque fantasy and anything descended from it, from Orcs in Lord of the Rings to Githyanki in D&D/Baldur's Gate to Demons in Frieren. You kinda just have to ignore it. I think I got over it in Frieren a little after this arc.

Gilthwixt

Just noticed he was thinking about what Frieren said about Flamme and how people treat her like a Fairy Tale,

bark

“You couldn’t be more wrong” thanks for spoiling dipshit

luckywizard

but this time it’s the villains with it 😂

alonso616

So many Raw lines this episode. "We are not fairy tales, we really existed."

SoggySoup

It is really interesting that Aura awoke around the same time Himmel died. Wonder what the link there is. I do think that Frieren has also become significantly stronger since the original adventure. The first 50 years just skipper her adventuring and getting new magic, plus what we've seen and the many other years we've skipped like from Himmels death to meeting Fern. So even if Aura got way stronger I could see Frieren being stronger still

JadonTheEternal

I do wonder why Aura did not rise up when Himmel was still alive. Only when he died, 28 years ago. Could it be that he was the only person demons were truly afraid of?

stupeyca

I love that when they showed a glimpse of Aura the “Guillotine”, if you pause and look at the army they are all headless.

The Shadow Monarch

I love that it's not just the stereotypical. "Ohh you thought demons bad but after the war they want peace and are actually better people" like no, They just absolute d e m o n s

Ginger Dwarf

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed lol

Rai

You good ?

lyssa

Frieren said "You do not want this smoke youngster"

Kisuke01

So she gets locked up for a few years, and you're just gonna give up and not even attempt to make it a shorter sentence, or to bail her out altogether? Then good riddance, you don't deserve to be in the same party anyways, not having a party member's back like that smh.

JsnSkg

talknojutsu is some strong shit

Infinity

The thing is, she shouldn't have to say "Oh that's me".... dumbass old man couldn't recognize her even though she looked exactly the same. EXACTLY. So bad at putting two and two together lmao. If I were Stark or Fern, I'd have been like, "Wow, you're dense."

JsnSkg

Same I love it

lyssa

Frieren is racist! Against demon race.

Oh Alone

I love the way the show portrays demons this is how they should be deceitful not cute and friendly

lyssa

What are you getting at? Your reply really doesn't offer anything more to my statement?

Jarren Jenkins

Why should a demon care about eating humans? They don't see humans as creatures they can coexist with, they see them as prey. What I like about how this anime details demons is that they are not just reskinned humans with human values, they are monsters.

Oh, That's Wild

I dunno if evil is the correct way to describe them. They are not human, nor do they understand human concepts. They act the way they do to survive, which is to mimic words that they know their prey will hesitate to. They are definitely enemies of humanity, but what they do isn't evil as they are animals preying on other animals. Maybe they are evil from the standpoint of humanity, but I wouldn't say objectively.

Oh, That's Wild

Frieren with that "go ask your moms about me, youngin" energy.

Jake Thompson

as a german i have to cringe throughout the whole show lmao

ScaLe

Worried about some of ya'll hyping up these demons. These aren't helpless animals just killing because they don't know any better. I'd say they are more like skinwalkers because they imitate humans in order to kill them.

Jarren Jenkins

okay I used a lion as a bad example but there are predators that trick they prey into traps to attack but I see y'all point

KeYo

You are misunderstanding their nature. Demons view humans as lesser and actively lie, manipulate and trick them in order to kill them and eat them. In your example of a hungry bear; a bear will kill something outright, it has no ideations of setting a grand trap, or manipulating it's prey into letting it's guard down so it can kill it. A demon as we've seen, is smarter than you actually make them out to be. Comparing Lugner to a bear is like comparing us humans to a rat that lives in our homes.

Jarren Jenkins

Bro what? A lion doesn't malevolently manipulate it's prey. That's the difference between a raw animal and these demons. They lie and trick you. A lion kills because of necessity, demons in this world does not. The chief even said they don't NEED to eat humans to survive.

Jarren Jenkins

They can be predators following their instinct and we can still resent them for it. They're not evil in the way some psychopath human serial killer would be, but they're still an antagonist race that wants to kill humans. It's kind of weird to act like them disliking the demons is an overreaction, but maybe you just like cool villains so whatever, I can respect that

Louis Kalman

28 years ago is exactly when Himmel died.

stupeyca

This was honestly my favorite depiction of demons in anime just evil self-serving beings. I wonder if we will get another crazy animated sequence next ep though my guess is that Frieren will one shot this fool.

Julian_lol

fuck i love this show

Jason

The problem with the dragon is that she needed time to charge up the spell enough to pierce through its scales, which is something that the dragon would have definitely noticed. So she could have beaten it on her own, but that would require her and Fern playing tag with the dragon, an option that Fern was vehemently against.

Coatl45

Everyone is freaking out over the fact that Johan Leibert has apparently been isekaied!😂

Coatl45

Wait I kinda like the demons lol I like their energy. The talknojutsu goes crazy

Erica Collins

I dont think she needed help to kill the dragon it was more of her seeing if stark really was strong to be part of the party. just like how he told hieter she would not take people that would drag her down so she tested stark we know frieren has power if she wanted she could have killed the dragon but she would have fucked up the surrounding forest and even the village

DANIEL PEREZ

the thing is animals dont attack humans unless the humans enter their territory. and these demons willfully kill people just to learn human speech if they see a baby and an adult, they will eat the baby cause the baby is easier to kill and eat. also like the other demon said they know using people feelings for their young can save them from being killed and play the role till their plan is finished and will kill people for just being in the wrong place and time like guard. the demon knew he had to killfrieren and just to make sure they could not have witnesses.

DANIEL PEREZ

Sheera so right lmao especially in those fantasy anime if a human racist they RACIST so they usually would go “so what ?” to a demon saying that shit.

ThatOneGuy

You couldn't be more wrong lmao.

YaBoyNetero

yeah Olemgar has a point. Its not even about good or evil. They simply lack the fundamental morality known to us HUMANS. However, we don't call a lion evil. They eat because they see us as prey. It's no different from how humans view pigs. We raise them by tricking them as if we are taking care of them. But the whole point of raising these pigs was to breed them and slaughter them. We can live without eating them. But we don't cuz they taste good.

Danny

btw the blondes demon name is "Lügner" it is German (nearly everything in this show has a german name) and his name means "liar".

Dragonfire

its hilarious watching them call demons pieces of shit lol. its like they're beast. they're predators. that like calling a lion a piece of shit because it hunted children. I mean its their demonic instinct lol

KeYo

Nah I fuck with this demon. Dude looks like Johan. Talks like Johan. Acts like Johan. Thinks like Johan. Plays ppl like Johan. Ima call this show Monster:Isekai

Danny

Yeah but this is New Game+ Frieren tho, not her still doing the OG story run. Also generally speaking Dragons are superior to scrubs like demons, excepting maybe leader units like Demon Lords alone

Skebaba

Imagine going to a cell & the nigga in there basically says "I made your boss shit her pants", and then after ED it title drops the next episode Frieren the Slayer

Skebaba

Lupa : “miss i fucking sleep all day and night” I love his description of frieren coz its too damn accurate 🤘 i love her though

Taro

I guess we understand why Omni man though of his wife more as a pet lmaooo

Luffy_77

To be fair, she beat the demon king as a group not by herself. Seeing how Frieren needed help against a dragon, it’s perfectly possible that the demon could be stronger than her

luckywizard

Damn Roshi, invoking early 2000's Beet the Vandal Buster memories. Really wished that series got an ending/more story.

HessianX

regardless its nice to see demons in that light finally. in 99% of anime demons are just glorified humans with more magic power lol. i like how this shows them as being more animalistic like what frieren said "monsters who are capable of speech".

plug-in panda

Your boss's boss in fact

fili0938

I don't consider them irredeemable evil pieces of shit. Frieren said it best, they're like predators, like animals. They lack the basic social and mental capabilities to befriend someone different than them. They only use their gifts to try and feed. Calling them evil is the same as calling a hungry bear evil in my opinion. If a bear killed people, is it evil or is it just their nature? Or at least that's my read with this episode. Who knows, something later might come up that negates my theory.

Olemgar

Nahhh, she stronger than their boss's boss

Gregery stunt double

I absolutely love the fact that the demons in this world are irredeemable evil pieces of shits. Not alot of stories nowadays do that.

Jainand Patel

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hasnain Khan

Frieren said, "Bruh, you think I'm using you as a reference point for my strength? Please, you're nothing. I'm saying I'm stronger than your boss's boss." xD

Kirby745i

Been readin this manga for years. I’m so happy it’s now an anime

Brailyn Mar

Do stars not exist in this world? I've watched many reactions but no one really paid it any mind so I'm wondering if it's just me lol
